Compared to any other 100,000+ city in this country, our crime rate is almost nonexistant. There will always be the occasional incident, anywhere you live, but for the most part, this is a really safe place to live. We should work to keep it that way by watching out for our own neighborhoods and each other.

I've said I felt safe there. TV is also surrounded by other towns.

We know where Ocala is; to the north of the Villages.

Summerfield, where the teenaged murderers were located (now in prison) is fairly close to The Villages......I just looked it up on MapQuest:


US-27 N to SE Highway 42 8.75 miles

13 mins / 14 mins based on current traffic

Summerfield is in Marion County........ditto, some of The Villages is located in Marion County. Our rental home was in Marion County.

If some unruly teens can "get to" Brownwood....then other teens or young adults can surely drive from Summerfield (if they chose to) to The Villages.

I remember when this all happened. It was a planned gruesome murder.

One of the girls just had her trial. Obviously, they've aged, but at the time of the crime they were 15, 16, 17 and 18.....I believe there were six of them who lured the 15 year old to a home........I won't repeat the details which are in the newspaper article.........posted elsewhere.

Had I not read the Ocala newspaper, I would not have been aware of it.......but that doesn't mean it never happened.
I would just have been living in la la land.

At the time I inquired of the realtors in Spruce Creek and Stone Crest.
At first they said that they had never heard of it. What????
They lived in Summerfield.

Finally, they "remembered" the murder.....and the gruesome details of cutting up the body, burning the body parts in the backyard fire pit and then disposing of the body in pails??? Oh, they also broke his knees.

I can see why some posters have stated they felt uneasy with the teens at Brownwood.

One thing I know........if a group of teenagers that age managed to carry out a MURDER as gruesome as that in our town......EVERYONE would have known about it within the time they were captured......and everyone would have been following the events leading up to the trial. And, last but not least, everyone would have been HORRIFIED.

That boy didn't deserve to die like that , at the hands of his "friends" just because his 15 year old girlfriend was ticked off at him. The article is posted elsewhere.

Sad but true.........those kids weren't studying hard to get into a good university.

...And the point is? Yes, several years ago some teens did a horrible thing, they were caught, convicted and Charlie Ely was sentenced to life without parole. She, IMO, will serve the entire life sentence (Jose Baez is handling her appeal-LOL). WHAT HAS THIS TO DO WITH THE VILLAGES.

I'll take your word that such a thing would never happen in Bennington, IMO, killing someone in such a place would just be considered redundant.

Maybe the realtor was new to the area and unaware. Maybe he was there to sell a house not spin his wheels and engaging in fishmonger gossip. Who knows.

Maybe after 5+ years of research you need to accept that this place is not for you.

Senior Citizen, I think a couple of days ago you were inquiring about Indialantic By the Sea. If the crime in and surrounding The Villages is bothersome, you might want to cross Brevard County off of your list. Indialantic is just across the river from a high crime area where drugs, shootings and murder happen on a regular basis.. Just about 1-2 miles away. In the past couple of years one of the biggest prescription drug rings was busted right in Indialantic FL. Just saying... I think we are in a great place in The Villages! But crime is everywhere!

It does seem like a cover up. This is the case I am talking about, below.

When 14 year old Brooke Bennett was murdered in Randolph Vermont, the entire state was saddened. Everyone knew about it. Everyone also knew and acknowledged that her uncle, a convicted sexual predator, had been released from jail.......and went back to his old ways.........whereas they should have thrown the key away.

As for those who say I shouldn't move to THE VILLAGES......researching other places in order to give my husband an opportunity to enjoy boating is not disloyalty or anything else against The Villages. And people wonder why it has a "Stepford Wives" reputation that follows it......does no one think for themselves?

TV is beautiful. I've said that over and over again. They've created a great atmosphere of loveliness and great zoning, great planning....due to perfect marketing. Sometimes I think many of the posters here work for The Villages.

We will move wherever we please.......in due time.....but not in any of these surrounding towns..........we will "stay safe"in the "bubble" that is TV.

Senior, I feel that you are taking a part and applying it to a whole, I.e., painting whole towns with the brushstroke of a few miscreants.

We go to Ocala all the time. We go to Wildwood all the time. We go to the safe parts and not the unsafe parts. We lived in a MI town with a high crime rate in one area. We just didn't go to that area. A lot of places have unsafe parts. TV doesn't, in my opinion.

I don't think one should be concerned about TV safety due to possible questionable parts of surrounding communities or taking one or two crimes happening over a long period of time and using them to label the area.

Half full or half empty. I am now on my soap box. I, I say I, lord have mercy, I say I find life more enjoyable seeing the glass as half full.

Senior - Based on your previous posts you should think carefully before moving here. Although you say it is beautiful you are very critical of it and find many negative things to say about it. Luckily, The Villages is not for everyone. We are fairly new to The Villages. My husband loves it and I am still making up my mind. There are things I really like and things I don't (mostly the heat). I can assure you there aren't any Stepford wives. From what we have experienced and observed this is a community of inclusion and acceptance.
Are there problems? Of course, all communities have problems. How the residents in the communities address the problems is the key.

Meanwhile back at the meth lab...
