Luckily, The Villages is not for everyone. We are fairly new to The Villages. My husband loves it and I am still making up my mind. There are things I really like and things I don't (mostly the heat). I can assure you there aren't any Stepford wives. From what we have experienced and observed this is a community of inclusion and acceptance.
Are there problems? Of course, all communities have problems. How the residents in the communities address the problems is the key.

I appreciate your post. We did not find anything at all to be critical about when we were visiting in THE VILLAGES. We both liked it very very much.
It was beautiful. The homes are great. The people we met were all friendly and helpful. Didn't meet anyone we wouldn't want to live near.
The restaurants were great....Lake Sumter Landing was great. The landscaping all around was super pretty......the entire place was neat and well thought out. We were highly impressed. I've said it over and over again.
Something is getting lost in the translation...........
I realize the towns surrounding TV are in a world of their own and we all know to stay out of not so safe areas..........but it's the DENIAL when anyone at all (not just me) brings up something not so nice that happens.
All I've been saying is that in our town, people WANT TO KNOW what is happening and the neighborhood "grapevine" and such, plus the daily morning town newspaper prints ALL THE NEWS.....good and bad.
We are not in denial that society has changed. I can't rehash it all again.
But do appreciate your thoughts.......I guess "thinking aloud" is considered critical and expressing one's "wonderings" is also critical and negative.
Not up here it isn't.
I know...... "Stay up there".....
