They were rude and motioning like I should get going forward and not park. Is this common in some other states, to block cars while parallel parking? I've never seen this before coming here. (Maybe they lived in NYC and never had a car of their own to park before?)

We have had people try to back up to parallel park, however, they didn't have a turn signal on and we had 4 cars behind us and no one could back up. People need to put their blinker on so the car behind them knows they are going into that spot.

There is a generally accepted practice of parking two carts to a spot by offsetting the vehicles, but it is not a rule and no one has any right to **** and moan about how many carts are parked in one spot.

It is a common courtesy to optimize the space, but not doing so does not indicate in any way that the driver of the "offending" cart is being inconsiderate.

thanks for that Indy. I plan to be a repeat offender hogging up a whole parking space. My cart has doors that require about 18" to swing open, so a cart or car jammed next to it would obstruct being able to get in and out.

It's amazing how people forget what it's like to be "new", or a visitor who hasn't caught onto the usual and customary practices. They will pick up on it soon enough, or some nicer person will point out how it would be helpful to others to share the space (We're all assuming that was the problem.) Also....sometimes there is a reason for taking a whole space. We have a lot of residents who use canes and walkers, etc. and perhaps need a little extra room. My husband is in a foot boot right now, and it helps him to not be crowded. LOTS of reasons people do what they do and it's nobody's business, unless it is against the law.

Anyone who would leave such a note probably needs anger management classes. Having said.....I see plenty of angry people here in "FL's friendliest hometown".

Are there signs indicating 2 carts or 1 car?.........how would a newbee....who never drove a cart or lived in a community like TV.....know the rules?

is there anyplace golf cart tips can be found.....like roundabouts?...parking....safe places to stop and check map....golf cart path sineage??.......nite driving....golf cart help for breakdowns...towing etc....golf cart courtesy??.....pull to right for speedy drivers??............

thanks

We can't change ourselves completely and we can't change what we have been taught, our word usage and what we think is our business. We are going to face again soon a large surge of population where there will be people handling things much differently than the way we grew up.

There will be people standing in the middle of the aisle at grocery stores with no thought to the fact they are blocking.

There will be people in droves going to the squares and saving chairs.
There will be people with much less driving experience than most of us driving cars and golf carts. There will be people stepping in front of us in line and even saying that they always sit in the front pew in church!

The quiet ones will simmer and the vocal ones will vocalize and the place here will get a lot more interesting and a good deal more frustrating.

Hang on Snoopy.

I already said emphatically that I HAD my turn signal on and the reverse lights were on too, as ALWAYS.

Even without the signal on, drivers of any vehicle on the streets should know that a car stopped just ahead of an empty parking spot is going to back into it to park. Then a thinking person would stay back and give them room!!

The best way is just to watch what other people do! Where they drive, how they park, where the tunnels are, etc. I suggest you start out slowly and take "practice runs" when you're not in a hurry and have plenty of time to observe others. That way when you get lost, it doesn't matter.

And soon you'll be helping other drivers that are lost. That's when you'll know you're a True Villager!

The card said Golf Cart Hog at the top, then under that was a pic of a hog sitting in a golf cart.
Written under that pic "Every Automobile Space Fits TWO (2) Golf Carts"

That was unnecessarily nasty. There are much more civil ways to get a point across, or, better yet, not to have done it at all. It's hardly an epidemic problem here.

I hope these folks will be able to laugh it off as the very rare Villages grump and it didn't taint their visit too much.

eh...were they LICENSED DRIVERS? If so they must understand parallel parking living in such a congested area. (They might rent one.)

If not, they are not subject to this discussion.

It has nothing to do with owning or not owning a car.

This discussion/thread has everything to do with driving a golf cart, which people can do without having a driver's license. I mentioned the above because it is likely there are people here driving golf carts who have never had a driver's license.

And then there is the unique use of parking spaces here in TV for both cars and golf carts. I admit I should have left parallel parking out of it. The point is, golf cart drivers are not always licensed car drivers.

Darn, now I have to order new cards. :) I agree with the other posters that an explanation of the rules gives out the same message and also provides an explanation of the rules, in a more gentler manner.

To the rude person who put a card that said "Golf Cart Hog", in the cart of a couple who are visiting The Villages for the first time through the Lifestyle Preview Plan - they were very upset as this was their first time in the village cart and tired to park like they thought was right.

The fact that someone is walking around with pre-printed cards saying "Golf Cart Hog", just looking for aggravation, speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. I just wish we all had the ability to ignore those people who are capable of such pettiness and get on with the joy and happiness of life.

:agree: .......... to go to all the trouble of finding this particular calling card (probably on the net), having them printed and sent to him ............ nope, no hope for this bully. Sometimes you just have to say "breeding will out" and leave it at that!

... and for those that have never heard that term before "This phrase means that breeding will come out, become apparent, over time. That is, it cannot be hidden forever, even if a person tries to hide it. A person who has been taught good ethics, morals, manners, etc., will demonstrate that training subconsciously, and other people will notice it." This person has obviously never been taught how to behave in a civilized manner showing respect to others.
