Them scammers are trying to take advantage of The Village “ day drinkers”… Luckily I was pouring another drink when my calls came in…

The problem with these scammers is that sometimes they are successful. Some of the victims are the people you would least likely expect to fall for the schemes. Stay vigilant. |

As for scamming emails, just look at their email address. That should be a hint of a scammer.

Spam calls?? I rarely have any.
How to get rid of spam calls: 1) Ditch your landline. Those numbers are well known and sold. 2) Get a mobile number that is ONLY used for very close family and friends. Never give that number to any business, bank, insurance company, etc. 3) Get a free google voice number and link that number to your mobile number so it automatically rings on your mobile phone when you are called. This is the number you give out to everyone who is NOT family & close friends 4) Turn on any scam call service, that your provider has. For T-mobile, download and enable their free “Scamshield” app. It blocks 95% of my scam calls (and since it is app based, it all blocks scam calls coming in on my google voice number) 5) If you want a final layer of protection, turn on “Silence Unknown Callers” on your iphone. This will silence all calls coming from numbers not in your contact list. Again, this also works with google voice if you have linked your google voice number to ring on your phone. (I don’t actually use the “silence unknown callers” feature because, i receive less than one spam call per month and I have been using the same mobile and google voice numbers for more than 10 years) |
I feel neglected never get calls or scam emails. My email program forwards them to junk and my cellphone blocks unknown calls

When we first moved here TV provided a list of origins of area codes from where known scammers operate. Most of ‘em were offshore (Bahamas was big) or Eastern Europe as I recall. Such a list probably means less and less as time goes by; you can get a mobile phone from any area code you desire (several scammers have numbers from area code(s) where I used to live) but still, a good resource to have. You can also google _ _ _ area code, and you will get the geographical source of the number of any number about which you might be suspicious. |

But what puzzles me is the people who work the scam. It seems they are just people doing their job because you often can hear others in the background. They must be in a call center. I wonder why these people take these jobs that require them to engage in criminal activities. Why don't they feel guilty about cheating and stealing from people? And why can't law enforcement, the FTC, etc track them down and stop it? In fact, are they trying to do that? I have never heard in the news of such actions by law enforcement. |
I just don’t answer the phone or open emails from someone I don’t know.

I use an app called Call Control and have been using the paid version for 5+ years. I rarely get spam/scam calls or texts.
