The phone scams are only the half of it. Really, the risk from scam calls is moderate compared to what's happening on the internet. We've reached the point where just about any promotional email or web sales ad is suspicious. The scammers have become so good at cloning web sites, even the legitimate companies they've cloned are impressed.
Just read where a cybersecurity firm reported there are an estimated 42,000 imposter domains (websites, info platforms) hacking data about our internet use and shopping interests. These hacks become phishing emails and flat-out fraudulent websites. Be cautious and do research on the firms and domains before deciding. For example, test the "contact us" info to see if it works, or read reviews to gauge authenticity.
Credit card and bank security groups will try to help if a bogus purchase or scam bites you. But, they're overwhelmed and resolution of your problem might takes month
