I just read your most eloquent answer. I have tried to say many of the things you said when asked and fell short. Try to get it printed in paper. Not everyone reads talk of the villages. Thank you.

wow...just Wow. Please post your picture and location so anyone in the High Risk group in TV knows to stay 15' away from you. BTW 'forever' is a very long time. Common sense please, just for a short time more. We are NOT invincible.

Personally we are being careful - social distance and mask (primarily when shopping etc), but our life goes on, golf and outdoor stuff - maskless. BUT we are sensitive and caring to others, and in the case we DID catch Covid - we keep our distance.

starflyte1 We will NEVER get rid of the virus if uninformed, careless people continue to gather in close proximity. I don't understand why people don't get it! The sooner people distance and use masks, the sooner we are rid of this virus. The better chance our loved ones and friends will survive this dreadful illness.

A person’s rights stop when they infringe on someone else’s rights. Spreading the virus affects more people than just the person who doesn’t care. In the 70’s people were arrested if they had HIV and had sex without telling their partner. The constitution does not give people the right to do whatever they want if it harms others.

:ohdear: Luv how the major response from people is that "It is my right", "I can do what I want". There is no where in our Constitution or laws that says you can do whatever you want, whenever you want!!! Where and when has anyone said that the current situations are permanent.

Seriously? Your comparison of people who KNEW THEY WERE HIV INFECTED to people who merely are out in the open in a public place is just ludicrous! I believe the former speaks to Intent; I’m not an attorney.

For all of the whiners, just how many people do you know, personally and for a fact, lived here in The Villages and died from Covid19 which they caught from the golfers, people out and about, wrong way shoppers, etc, etc.?

We are not getting rid of the virus anyway, that was never the plan. The plan was to slow its roll a little so the healthcare system could become more prepared. This has taken place. The death rate in the U.S. has dropped from 29% to 22% over the past month. The reason for this is that the health care system now has ways to prevent more deaths. This gets better everyday as new medicines and treatments develop. Herd immunity also develops everyday. Eventually on its own the virus will die off. New evidence on how it travels changes daily. The latest key advances are, the virus is not spread widely by casual contact, but more rapidly by family members hunkered down inside. The next advancement tells us the virus is not passed outside or in hot climates like originally believed. The biggest injustice of this virus, is making people believe they will die "IF" they get the virus. 99.9% not only survive, but have little or no effect. Just like other diseases, it may be too late to change how you lived your life to avoid the results of dying from a disease now. I guess you had the opportunity in most cases to control your own destiny just like you have the opportunity now to "protect yourself" as you see fit.

Brilliant and well said. The “corona Karen’s” and “covid Chads” are all over social media trying to shame anyone who doesn’t think like them. I’ve posted similar sentiments over the past couple weeks and mods deleted them, so I’ll stop right here.

I truly believe that with some common sense on my part, I could easily go back to life as it was. I want to go to restaurants, I want to shop at the little store just up the road.
And yes, I could catch COVID-19. I could also catch the flu or a cold. I could die from obesity. I could die from a heart attack. I could be in a car accident. I could get run over by a bus. I could get struck by lightning. We take risks everyday. If you choose to stay home, that is absolutely your choice. And please don’t start screaming at me about how I’ll just spread it. Why are you worried? You won’t get it because you’re staying in your home. Are you going to forever cringe and glare everytime someone coughs, sneezes or has the sniffles? Are you going to shelter in place every time a new strand of the flu happens?
Our economy can’t withstand much more of this. If our economy collapses, so will the rest of the world’s. If that happens, you will see the rise of tyrants.
I absolutely don’t want people to die...from COVID or anything else. I want people to live.
But sheltering in place is not living.

If it only affected the people involved it would be different but it doesn't. Someone that gets the virus may be the one you come in contact with at a store or maybe the gas pump. I read where a woman got it by touching a keypad at a pharmacy. Don't ask me how they trace these things back...I don't know.

I'm not belittling the people that choose to go out but why be careless? Why not invite your friends over for drinks and sit outside spaced safely apart? Some are talking about the economy taking a hit and they are right but what's it going to be like if the second wave of this thing is worse?

Maybe the best post I saw on this thread was the one that someone said all the folks at RJ's were young, healthy individuals with healthy immune systems...young? In the villages? What is the average age in the villages? Of course, it is your business what you do but you would have to been living under a rock for the last few months if you believe that your actions can't affect others. The whole "stay at home if you're scared" just don't get it and most know it or should.

If the morbidity for seniors is a lot higher than the younger population it’s safe to assume that most of the celebrants you saw were seniors.

I wonder how they would respond if offered a hat with five chips in it — four saying “free dinner for you and your party” and the fifth saying “you die”? How many do you think would play the game? Because those are pretty close to the real odds if a senior gets infected.

By the way, the CDC’s current definition of “senior” for the purpose of calculating morbidity rates for the coronavirus is age 50 and above.

HIV was discovered in 1983.

You are right that it was illegal to have sex if you were HIV+ and didn't disclose it. It is STILL illegal in many states. It is also illegal in some states if you don't disclose that you have ANY infectious disease to your sex partners. That presumably also applies to Covid-19.
