A lightning strike can reach out 10 miles from the storm cloud, also lightning travels @ the speed of light, thunder travels @ the speed of sound--if you hear it may to light

just like you never hear the bullet that hits you.

I took a weather watcher course when I lived in Maine. There were two things that I still remember. "When thunder roars, go indoors" and "Turn around, don't drown". The latter refers to flooded roads.

I think something like this falls under, "this can't happen to me", type of thinking.

Anyone who has been here for a while should know better than to mess with lightning storms.

Well, it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood today. A touch windy, but no storm in sight.

Escambia is in pretty decent shape.

Several years ago, in PA, the course we were playing sounded the "stop play" horn. The sky was bright and blue but you could see the storm clouds in the distance. A foursome decided to finish playing the hole but when they got to the green decided to pick up. Three survived, one didn't, after the lightning hit the man directly. The outline of his feet were burned into the grass. The course erected a plaque at the sign acknowledging the dangers along with a planted a tree with the man's name as a memorial. Also, don't know that those that stay out in bad weather are stupid, would like to think they are just ignorant.
