It's about time they start cracking down on speeders in the Villages! Now they need to work on Morse, Buena vista and Hillsbourgh and so on!

Thank you!

From the other place.

""In the effort to crack down on speeding, a deputy recently snared a speeding golf cart driver traveling at 35 miles per hour. In that case, the golf cart driver was issued a criminal citation, not just an ordinary speeding ticket. Golf carts are supposed to travel at no more than 20 mph.
“It’s pretty serious,” Siemer said. “When you get a criminal citation, you have to go in front of a judge.”

Can't wait for complaints that LE is getting too active!

I have a friend who lives a block from Chula Vista. Sometimes we go to concerts together at the Sharon. To reach her (on Palermo), I take the Chula Vista gate from 466. After I pick her up, I proceed down Chula Vista to Rio Grande to Avenida Central. Chula Vista is the through street for at least a couple hundred homes in that area. It is more than just a residential street like the rest of the streets in the area. It’s wide enough for easy two lane traffic with parking on both sides. That’s not the way it is with most streets here. If the Chula Vista gate weren’t there, I would have to take Morse up to Rio Grande, THEN TRAVEL SOUTH ON CHULA VISTA.

While it’s possible that there are those who take the Chula Vista gate as a shortcut from 466 to Spanish Springs (it is), I suspect that most of the traffic (and most of the speeders) are going from the Chula Vista gate to a home in the area or going from a home in the neighborhood to Spanish Springs. Closing the Chula Vista gate would be a hardship for hundreds of neighborhood homeowners.

I applaud the ticketing, but I would oppose closing the gate.

Bunch of clowns, wanting laws enforced, amirite?
No one should have to follow laws. Law breakers should be rewarded, not punished for breaking laws.

What a horrible place the Villages has become. Everyone should immediately sell and move to places where laws are not enforced!

Putting a full time cop out there would address the problem, stop more drunks and drug users and pay for itself with the revenue it would generate. Also, way too many idiots driving souped up golf carts that are not made to go over 20MPH. Leave earlier, slow down and try to enjoy life.

My sentiments exactly.
Buena Vista has turned back into a speedway. Last year it was actually civilized for a while.

(b) For moving violations involving unlawful speed, the fines are as follows:
For speed exceeding the limit by:
Fine:
1-5 mph..........Warning
6-9 mph..........$25
10-14 mph..........$100
15-19 mph..........$150
20-29 mph..........$175
30 mph and above..........$250

Exceed the posted limit by 5 MPH or less in Florida you can only get a warning. Maybe there is a city ordinance that allows local PD to write for less than 5?

Unless there is another reason to stop the vehicle then going 5 MPH over seems a safe bet.

So... anyone advocating for law enforcement is a clown? Spoken like someone with a history of civil disobedience.

Don't you mean "now they have to deal with the satisfaction" that there is finally a solution to all the old goats, (male and female), who don't have the common sense to allow enough time to travel from point A to point B without speeding? If they can't figure that out they shouldn't be on the road.

If you want to drive like a maniac, buy some open land, get an old truck and race around on it as fast as you can. Your antics on the public highways aren't entertaining.

I would think that 99% of the people going north or south from Spanish Springs use Morse.

Who cares how many use it? This is about catching the speeders and it's about time that area has some relief.

Not sure what you are stating here

It's not rocket science, the statement can be interpreted to fit the situation.

Thank-you sheriff's for doing your job.

Well said!

On this subject...traffic enforcement....I have always said...the more cops the better hence more tickets for the violators.

Self funded by ticket revenue...no problem.

La lamy 07-20-2025 01:50 PM

I actually was stopped by a cop for not doing a complete stop around there in a golf cart!! I thought that's what every Villager does, but I now know better!
