STD Reputation hard to kick!
While TV STD reputation is pure fiction, it is still responsible for many snickers when I tell my friends from NY that we have a winter home here. It gets a laugh but I feel it really degrades the true image of TV. Aside from a few perverts that May chose to move here for that reason, I do go out of my way to explain that STD statistics are on a county basis. TV is comprised of three counties and there really is no way to site such statical proof, even if it existed, for this reputation.
BTW some people still are afraid to go to NYC because of its reputation from the 70s 80s and 90s. In fact when in the 2000s NYC was statistically rated the second safest large city in the US. SO WE WILL GRIN AND BARE IT, (sorry for the pun) |

The doctor’s name was Colleen McQuade. If you google the name and STDs in The Villages, you will find the original interview. I tried to copy and attach a link but couldn’t.

In the words of that great American David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870),, "Dam the STDs full speed ahead"

Whenever it comes up that we have a place in TV, the STD thing is mentioned. My reply is, "Well unless you can get one playing dominos, I'm safe",,,or "from my experience, you'd have to work a lot harder to get one, than to avoid one."
The reality is that the myth that there is a community of old people all swinging and partying and sharing STDs is a lot more interesting than the reality of a community of old people playing golf, pickleball, and line dancing poorly. |

With all the folks dying of heart attacks, cancer and strokes here, I find it interesting to think that anyone is scared of a treatable case of a STD. I don't care if folks snicker when I mention living in TV. If old folks here are having such a good time (and able to) that there really was an influx of/or STD pandemic, I applaud them. Those old folks are my heroes; legends. Personally, I am not afraid of contracting any STD since I do not venture outside of my marriage and never have, and have never wished to. I consider TV to be the elephant grave yard, whereas many others think of TV as the senior Disneyland. I don't worry about blemishes on the TV name. If I cared, I would not be here. Like I said before, the truth is that there are much higher rates of STDs in other areas of the country, and definitely other areas of the world, so why worry "be happy."
