Can't we think of something a little more important to be bothered by?

Yup, dogs in public places, dog poop, bicycles on the cart paths, walkers in the street, Community Watch, unfriendly golf ambassadors. Life is good in the bubble.

I worked for the USPS 30 years as a mailman and never in my town did we ever care about stickers on mailboxes. Heck we had trouble getting some to put their house # on theirs.

BogeyBoy 04-15-2014 12:50 PM

I'll join the "looks tacky" group.

Reminds me of construction areas where there is graffiti and ads stuck all over the exterior of the perimeter wall.

Unacceptably tacky? Seriously?
How much time do any of us spend looking at mail boxes?
If it's more than 20 seconds a day, I'd be surprised.
The postal agents don't care if you sticker your box.
If someone wants to sticker their box, why all the negativity?

Better to live joyously, and let live.

Just wondering. Is there a tendency to obsess on "baby" issues like mailbox stickers to avoid the "big" stuff in our lives. Kind of like congress. They have no clue how to handle the big problems so they focus on piddling little issues that were never really a concern of the citizens in the first place.

Or do we just have waayy too much time on our hands?

festusrules 04-15-2014 05:34 PM

Put up a grumpy face and see it it stays.

Most likely a little of both.

Stickers continue to be removed Polo Ridge Mail Center

I started this thread some months ago, and we are still having an ongoing problem with someone removing the mailbox stickers. It is really disheartening that anyone thinks they have the right to do this.
The mailman knows it is a problem from other residents and is clear he is not the one removing them.
Now, this person has taken paint remover to the front of our mailbox and it looks awful.
Any thoughts? I've called the district as well.

I put a 2nd smiley face sticker on in the past day and it was removed again.
Makes me feel badly that someone is doing this and we have no idea why.
Any thoughts?

Wow! Someone in your neighborhood is really OCD.

perrjojo 06-25-2014 11:15 AM

How about a sticker that says...
CAUTION
DO NOT TOUCH
I would post a photo but don't know how.

Bogie Shooter 06-25-2014 11:57 AM

I memorized my box number, not a problem finding.

There are so many fabulous things to do and see in The Villages.
I feel sorry for the person who is so bored that he has become fixated with your mailbox.

seacoastbargain 06-25-2014 01:03 PM

Thanks, I agree!

Too bad it's so darn hot out. I think a stakeout is in order. Or a surveillance camera?

I've thought about it! !!

Is this one of the disgruntled TV villagers that you were talking about?

Why does one feel they need to have a sticker on their mailbox?

I don't know, maybe the same reason people put their names on golf carts.

For the same reason people put stickers or college/sports license plates on their golf carts, cars, flags on their houses, etc. To celebrate something.

Carl in Tampa 06-25-2014 03:47 PM

Indelible.

My first impression was so that they could find it quickly.

IF I had put a sticker on mine, for any reason, and some do-gooder kept removing it, I would hit the door of my mail box with spray paint.

You have a number on your box why do you "need" a sticker.

Dyslexia, memory is better with pictures than numbers, old age?

zonerboy 06-25-2014 06:29 PM

I doubt anyone "needs" a sticker on their mailbox.
But if we only had things that we truly need, life would be pretty BORING!

asianthree 06-25-2014 06:36 PM

so you know if there is a rival sports team person in the mail box next to you:a040::boxing2:

travelguy 06-25-2014 06:37 PM

the postal boxes are not your property, therefore you may not put stickers or anything else on them. the usps has the right to keep them clean. my opinion is that you should not need a unique sticker on your mail box so that you can find it....just memorize the location/number.

All good reasons. And the postal worker has already told this person he is not taking stickers off of mailboxes, so obviously that faction of the usps doesn't care. Nobody removes them at our postal center...

To the OP, are they all removed, or just yours? Maybe you have a nasty neighbor.

People do it for fun! Like wearing blinking Santa Claus earrings at Christmas. Well, not exactly the same.

Anyway, if it bothers you, you're probably spending way too much time looking at post office boxes!

Steve & Deanna 06-25-2014 07:35 PM

A lot of stickers is tacky. One is fine for example, an initial, an American Flag, a smile face....

True they are not your property, but in all likelihood they are not the property of the Postal Service either. I would surmise that the building and the boxes were installed by the developer and now are under the control of the CDD.

The USPS doesn't have any reason to look at the outside of the boxes. They load the mail from inside the building.

Drive down the road from TV and you will see residential boxes painted in all kinds of colors and even shaped like animals. I once had a neighbor who had a COW mailbox in our very upscale neighborhood.

It had never occurred to the HOA to prohibit cow mailboxes.

Barefoot 06-25-2014 11:33 PM

If you are unlucky enough to have a post office box on the bottom row, you'll be really glad that people use stickers.
That way you don't have to lie down on the ground to read the numbers.
Our box is in the middle of the bottom row, just right of a smiley face sticker.

They are , in fact , owned by usps, not the cdd

Lauren Sweeny 06-26-2014 05:59 AM

Not very new to TV but.... I thought stickers were a form of individualization. In the everything looks the same places, a bit of frivolity that may( or may not as this case may be) bring a smile or sense of personality to a humdrum area.

graciegirl 06-26-2014 06:04 AM

I can't help to feel happy that we have all reached an age where we have the time to discuss this and do so many other things too that we didn't have time for before. Good morning everyone.
