I always wanted to live on Inner Circle, but find myself on Outer Rim.

My pet peeve is in the Spanish Springs area: many of the names in Spanish are misspelled.

Just take two or three nice-sounding word and link them together to create a street name--even though it doesn't make any sense. E.G. "Mountain Brook" First, there are no mountains in Florida. Second, the highest point in Florida is about 350 feet--and is on the Alabama state line! In "Back to the Future", the town was "Hill Valley". In what Universe does that make sense? I'd be interested in other nonsense names of streets that others have found--in TV and elsewhere.

Florida and the lowest high point in USA

I don’t know how many were named but Belle Aire has mostly places in Georgia and areas off Hillsborough as in the county Tampa is in are named after locations in the Tampa Bay Area such as Dunedin and Pinellas. Look at the group of names in a village and see if you can figure where the names are from. Chatham or Piedmont has numbered streets, random and unusual.

Many towns have the names of poets. My dad lives on Amherst in Denver, which is close to Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania, etc. I think that when they were thinking of names, someone thought that would be an academic neighborhood. I don’t think it worked out that way.

I do think there are people somewhere around here racking their brains to come up with names that haven’t been used. I haven’t seen any I can’t pronounce, but I might pronounce them wrong. It does help here to be able to pronounce and understand some Spanish (I do). I live in the Village of Land of the Sun!

How interesting to read that some streets are named after towns in Michigan, including Brownwood. That Old West Michigan town. (Grinning)

There is a sort of idea among real estate developers (I think it’s in a book they study or something) that it’s a good idea to make up a name including something mineral and something woody. Thus, Earthwood, etc. leads to some silly names, but people come and buy!

My old development in PA named the streets after family members who owned the original farm. It looks like The Villages uses themes

The historic section has streets named after the Morse/Schwartz family and friends except for the flower streets.

One of the divisions of the developer is headed up by a Morse family member -- she and her daughter name all the streets.

We live on Werdebaugh Way which is south of 44 in the Marsh Bend village. When we opened a bank account at Citizens First Bank and told them that was the name of our street they all chimed in that Mr. Werdebaugh was such a wonderful man. Evidently he was the first president of Citizens First Bank. So they choose Names from the working community as well as real estate agents…

My wife and I say the name of the street and immediately spell it. Why? Sounds like one of the big swear words until you emphasize it is spell with an "O" and not the big "U"

I prefer names to using numbers....in Ft Lauderdale we dealt with:
-NE 112 Street, Avenue & Terrace
-SE 112 Street, Avenue & Terrace
-NW 112 Street, Avenue & Terrace
-SW 112 Street, Avenue & Terrace

In Marion County the numbers are rough indicators of the distance from a central point,
The first letter of the street name also indicates North/ South or East/West. Of course some roads go all directions.

Loma Paseo Drive was named after me. It means Queen On The Hill.
