Why is everyone jumping to this guy's defense, without any facts to back up that position?
He supposedly lived with this women for 20 years. She didn't see fit to protect the guy upon her passing. Call me naive, but it seems there's a message there. For all we know, the recently deceased could have been the subject of the proverbial "elder abuse" that's always getting tossed around. & where is this guy's family in all this? All we really know, is that apparently he's got a nice dog. |

On a 2nd note, there is a decent looking room rental in Silver Lake area for $800/month. Over the guy's budget but something to consider, perhaps. It was on craigslist.com |

Not much of a “family”, what a terrible thing to do to a member of your own family. I don’t have a solution to this gentleman’s problem but wish him the best of luck and hope he finds a new home were he will be respected and can live out his remaining days with his furry companion. As for his “family”, they will get what’s coming to them one day… |

As difficult as this man's situation seems, I'm huge on 'make your own way' in life unless you are absolutely incapacitated in some way. In Canada I live in my boyfriend's house right now and pay rent. If he happened to pass, his kid would inherit the house and I'd assume I was supposed to leave so they could sell it. Normal!

That's exactly right, but some folks don't bother to read, they just jump in with unsubstantiated opinions or invective. |

The family would have to contribute to his upkeep. They have no obligation to do that. |
Is he a military veteran? There might be resources there.

OP is looking for suggestions on finding living arrangements for this gentleman.
Thank you if you can help, with situation. If not please keep your post kind, guessing why this situation happened or negative comments is not helpful for OP |
Pretty limited information....but from what is available I Don't see many silver linings to this particular cloud. Florida pretty much sucks when it comes to social services and mostly what they do is reactive, not proactive. Not much in "the system" here that he would be able to access. And unfortunately there are 84-year-old homeless people.
One thing I would urge strongly. Talk to a lawyer. Florida is an "equitable distribution" state which means that in the absence of a will when someone dies, or in cases where a will is contested, a judge gets to decide who gets what. There may be legal avenues available to this guy to at least get something to help sustain him in his last few years. Worth asking about, at least. |

I helped an elderly man get his golf cart (dead battery) home near Chula Vista golf course. He told me the same story, it could be him. Lived with a woman for 18 years and never bothered to put his name on title. Now the woman's family wants him out in the spring. I checked Florida Common Law rules. They were taken off the books in 1968.
