If they do these shows totally for the young people or the people that fork out the big bucks for the tickets($6,000. a ticket) Are they basing the shows for the young people or the ones that have the money, surely it’s not the young people that have the money! I agree with you I only understood about 3 or 4 words.

Young people have ALWAYS driven music, culture, and even social values. Fashion is a perfect example. Young people weasel money from their well-off parents and spend it on the NEWEST clothes. The Grunge scene of musicians SPARKED the fashion of wearing BLACK and look around you at what colors TV Bubble-land SENIORS are wearing. It IS PROPAGANDA FASHION............very mind-controlling !!!!!!!

There are several terms that people use when actually discussing the issue at hand makes them uncomfortable. "Racist" is merely one of them.

Those stubborn KITTIES. I keep calling "here kitty, kitty, NICE kitty. They keep ignoring me, darn.

I get it that all are welcome to express how they fell but all the negativity has become a mass that outweighs any positivity.
Yes its 2023 and the days of seeing performers we are "used to" have come and gone. The younger generation expresses themselves in ways many of us don't understand (or care to) but I remember when I was growing up and my parents would say much of what is said here on this forum. I may not be as old as some out here but it's be time to embrace some change and open ourselves up to new things.

Go Steelers!!!

last years' show was so much better. they had the top names in R-N-B, and halfway decent songs were performed. (Dr Dre even hit the piano keys, doing a good job.) so it's not really a generational thing, for me, anyways, it's the talent, showmanship, & the chemistry with the audience.

Half time not show!

I still say "Prince" put on the best halftime show ever in the pouring rain with no lip sinc!

rockyhyder 02-14-2023 12:46 PM

I’ve been better entertained watching paint dry. Far from family friendly and further from talented.

dadspet 02-14-2023 12:53 PM

Half time show was a let down.

Game was really good but the 1/2 time (show) left a lot to be desired. All those platforms flying around with people in white (outfits) strutting around on them didn't do anything for me.

BTW Watched America's got Talent (I think it was called pre final preview or something like that ) last night and the talent was impressive. Enjoyed it a lot more than the 1/2 time show

That is certainly your prerogative. In light of some of the comments, I did just research it and it does have origins in African Dance. However....it is not confined to African Americans. Look at any dance show, wedding reception...even at the squares....ALL races are twerking if the music supports it. It's just a current dance phenomenon and most young people will do it. An example...the Mambo and the cha cha originated in Cuba, but I see plenty of non-latinos doing both. It's a DANCE...that's all.

Like you I also did some research. The NYT (Sept 2013) reports twerking came from the New Orleans music scene of the eighties. It goes on to say: " Twerking is a dance move typically associated with lower-income African-American women that involves the rapid gyration of the hips..." .Twerking (/ˈtwɜːrkɪŋ/; possibly from 'to work') is a type of dance that came out of the bounce music scene of New Orleans in the late 1980s. Individually performed chiefly but not exclusively by women,[1][2] performers dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving throwing or thrusting their hips back or shaking their buttocks, often in a low squatting stance.[3] Twerking is part of a larger set of characteristic moves unique to the New Orleans style of hip-hop known as "bounce".[4] Moves include "mixing", "exercising", the "bend over", the "shoulder hustle", "clapping", "booty clapping", "booty poppin", and "the wild wood"—all recognized as booty shaking or bounce.[5][6] Twerking is but one choreographic gesture within bounce.

As a tradition shaped by local aid and pleasure clubs, block parties and second lines,[7] the dance was central to "a historical situating of sissy bounce—bounce music as performed by artists from the New Orleans African-American community that [led to] a meteoric rise in popularity post-[Hurricane Katrina after 2005]."[8] In the 90s, twerking had widespread appeal in black party culture

You can't get much more American than that!

USA#1 in twerking AND booty poppin.

Saw it in main theatre of cruise ship. Was bored to tears and no idea why they staged it with lots of people, apparently almost all black in white suits with face shields.

Sat next to two teen age girls who liked the singing but had no clue why they did it this way. Spent a whole lot of money on it. Quite a few people thought Rhianna was lip synching.

rsmurano 02-14-2023 05:24 PM

Very bad, typical half time show. Couldn’t understand any words and that’s ok. Even the music sucked.

Lots of dancers.
But maybe I could understand 5 or 6 words from all the songs belted out.
Anyone else have that issue??

Yep ! Not disturbed or negative, just age I guess, but singers and dancers is huge garbage bags ? Too old to "get it"... but, good game (and yes, I know many disagree with that too. I am not a big fan of singers everywhere trying to do an unrecognizable "version" of our National anthem, but again, just an "old foggie" I guess ! Also very much dislike having two national anthems. Will it soon be three ? To me having a "national" anthem for each culture and skin color in a nation, is nothing more than causing strife and division. So sorry to see this happening. Just one opinion of an "old foggie".

It's our collective age here. For the under 55 world the vulgar gestures, words of gutter filth, etc. are what people are craving ! If not, these, and other, shows, would be completely opposite of what they are. Same with Tic Tok, other "social" media...."social" ???) the more vulgar the better ! ?
Example: have you ever been at a stop sign in your auto with the windows down, and with young grand children in the car ? Had a car pull up beside you with the windows down and the sound turned up to such a level that the CAR actually VIBRATES .... and had to get the windows up quickly before a young child hear the unbelievably filthy language of the "songs", the words used for "women", for "sex", for prostitution, the words used to describe police officers ? What a world ! If people did not love this type of thing so dearly, no one would record it because it would not sell !

She's an amazing singer with a record of winning Grammy's. The stage was fantastic as was the production.
Sometimes I'm still amazed at the way people can be so mean.

Why the label of "haters?" I don't "hate" her. I just thought she SUCKED, was terrible, vulgar and ugly in this case. I have heard that she is a good artist, but she sure did not prove it this time. Not hate, just have an opinion. Didn't like it when that little white girl did it either. Miley Sirus?? I believe she is white. Don't hate her either, but I think she is vulgar and juvenile.
