Default Wifi Concern

Lots of folks here in TV use xFinity for their home wifi. We've used it for over four years now with no problems.

However, yesterday I updated my iPad gen 10 to the newest OS (18.6). Everything worked fine during the update. I signed off after the update. However a couple of hours later I found that I couldn't sign back on! Instead I got the message "This network is operating Wi-Fi channels in use by several other nearby networks. Restarting your wireless router may allow it to automatically choose the best channel to use and may resolve the problem." I tried that. It didn't work.

All other devices that access my wifi are working fine.

Thoughts?

I don't "do" apple products but on my android devices, when there's a major update, or I buy a new device, I sometimes run into a connection glitch. What I do, is go to the network/wifi connections setting on that device (phone, tablet, printer), FORGET the network that was previously used at home, and then have the device search for wifi. It'll find your network and you MIGHT have to re-enter your password to connect.

You will need to log into your Xfinity router and change the wifi channel it is using if Auto isn't picking the least congested channel automatically.

Not all routers expose that level of configuration and not all users will be able to make changes.

Since all other devices continue to work, this sounds like a problem with the update.

I am away today but will attempt the update tomorrow.

It would be useful to google for reports of similar issues with the update. It is very new so there might not be many reports yet but as more people install the update any issues will be found.

I thought Xfinity WiFi is Booming? why should you have a problem. According to the advertisements there is nothing better.

Because some DEVICES have problems. Obviously that's the OP's situation, since as he said himself, all his other devices are connecting just fine. Only his singular cell phone, which had a recent OS update, is experiencing the problem. Therefore, it's his phone that's the problem. Not the wifi service.

I have to do this whenever I get an OS update. I learned the hard way - by having a fight with the Windows people after waiting 40 minutes to get through to an actual person. They kept telling me it was my router, or my modem, or my internet provider, or my cable company. And I kept telling them that all my other devices were working just fine. After being transferred to someone who actually spoke English as a first language, I was able to explain (for the 10th time) to someone who understood me. They said no, I don't have to shut my computer off, then unplug everything, then do a system restore, and clear my cookies and cache, etc. etc. etc.

So now, the FIRST thing I try when a device doesn't connect to a known wifi (even at Starbucks, which is an xfinity hotspot) - is I "forget" the network, and let the device seek out and find it again, and reconnect with my usual password (that works at Starbucks too btw, you piggy back on their wifi, but using your own secure connection).

We use android devices. I've found that after I am required to do an update the number of ads increases and new game apps sometimes show up

When I have updated an Android device, there are "suggested" apps available to install during the update, but as long as you do not install these apps, I don't think they will actually appear on your device. At least that has been my experience.
