There are several options, depending on location and what Marriott is doing with the units at a particular resort. I suggest you contact Marriott’s owner modification department at (800) 443-4391. Sometimes Marriott will buy it back from you, sometimes they can sell it for you or you can sell it privately. Here is someone I have used:

I have used Sam, I have sold units through Marriott and I’ve sold on my own. Had 5 weeks before I moved to Florida and disposed of them all.

I got rid of two weeks of Timeshares by calling Marriott. They paid me a small amount and relieved me of my ownership. It didn't cost me anything.

We had 2 timeshares. We gifted one and the other was just luck in that this person was looking for another one for a relative as they travel together. We sold it for a song.

Call Marriott directly. They will take it back from you. You won't get any money, but you will be out from under the yearly maintenance fee. We had 3 and when we moved to Florida, and decided that we wanted to rid ourselves of one. They took it back, no problem.

Many are NOT taking them back! They are only interested in the perpetual fees. Read TUG board. People will pay you for nice Vegas strip properties

I called my time share company and told them I want to give it back to them. They just had me sign some papers and it was finally over. Paying money to these supposed time share sellers is a scam. you send them 2, 3, 5 hundred dollars and that is the last you hear from them

If the timeshare is completely paid off you can file a "Quitclaim deed" with whatever county the timeshare is registered.

We did that with a timeshare in New Orleans. The annual fees became outrageous PLUS they added an additional fee to cover hurricane damage--something that was probably covered by insurance--so I suspect they were double dipping. I contacted Orleans Parish, paid the appropriate fee (I think it was $45--this was 2008) and submitted the proper forms which you can get online. I think they were free at that time. The original HAS to take the timeshare back, whether they want it or not.

Whatever you do don't waste your money on the outfits that say they can sell your timeshare for you. In 2008 the fee for that "service" was $450 (I'm sure it's much more these days) and they promised to put it on 30 different websites. All 30 were the same website with 30 different names. We didn't get one offer!

Timeshares are offered for as little as $1.00, all by people trying to get out from under the annual fees which always go up and never go down. And, when you die the timeshare transfers to your heirs in perpetuity (i.e. forever) whether they want it or not.

Timeshares, by the way, are the biggest scam in real estate. They sell the same unit for 50 weeks a year. Ours was $14,000 x 50=$700,000 for one unit. Our timeshare had 200 units x $700,000=$140,000,000. The annual fee started at $350 x 10,000 total weeks (50 x 200)= $3,500,000/year. And they need special assessments on top of that? Yeah, sure!

Not true, according to timesharerelease.com. They say:

"Remember, it is not in the power of one individual to unilaterally decide to remove their name from a timeshare and grant it to another through a Quit Claim Deed. Both parties need to have their consent and signature for the Deed to be of any use to get rid of a timeshare."

Years ago we had one in Mexico and based on research, the first thing we did was contact the company and offer it back to them — and they took it if we paid them $1,000. We did that as the yearly fees were escalating and we didn’t want the timeshare anymore. Sometimes you just have to weigh all options and use the one with the least resistance.

Marriott has first right of refusal. When we contacted them about our timeshare, they said it didn’t have a financial value, but they would take it back and I would be no longer responsible for the yearly maintenance fee. Give that a try.

From what I have heard you did good.

Marriott has a website just for Marriott timeshares, we sold ours at Doral in one day for $6000. They kept 40% for commission.
