Our friends have passed or moved and we need a new circle of friends. Is it too late at 74 to find a new group of friends. Are most of TV residents going to be much younger?
Advice please---

It depends on what part of the village you move too, it seems the Villages north of 44 have the more mature senior and the southern part have the younger seniors. There is a lot of expenses living in the villages and they keep going up, which kills the budget if you live on one.

Don't buy in the new sections south of 44. The TV sales people are steering all people younger than 60 down there (I know because I have several friends who only used TV and they were specifically told they would be out of place north of 466A (they now wish they'd done their homework). I also have 3 friends who were steered to the new sections (Villages realtors get paid much more for selling new than preowned) and waited the year they were forced not to sell for a profit, then moved more north.
If you are over 70, you won't find many in your age group down there.

If they are steering younger down there, then they need to be careful of being accused of age discrimination. Realtors are not supposed to steer any group to any area, whether it be age, race, religion, etc.

Come south and take a look. You'll be impressed.

Don't believe everything that is posted.

This is why you come here rent for a month or more and decide if this place is for you and if so where you want to be.

Lifestyle visit is nice but not nearly long enough to decide.

Come on down, youngsters! I live just south of 466 and I am one of the youngest on my street. I’m 70.

I was over 70 when I moved here south of 44 and have more friends than I ever had. There are thousands of people living south of 44 that are over 70. Hundreds of people from the northern villages have sold their homes and moved south of 44.

That’s absolutely correct....We live down here and we have people of all ages, and quite frankly many are much more out going and friendly because we all moved in around the same time...up in SS area, we find people have lived there so long, most don’t go out of their way to meet or greet you being the new person on the block..It’s a very active area, with neighborhood get togethers...

That’s exactly right. Come down drive all over see what area suites you best. It’s great no matter what village you are in and you’ll make a lot of new and interesting friends from all over. It’s a very special place and I bet you’ll love it! Best wishes to you and hope to see you! 👍😎

Not at All, I am 68 and just purchased in TV and most of my neighbors are older. I without any doubt suggest you purchase between just south of 466. The Villages of Tall Trees, Belvedere, Bonny Brook, Lynnhaven, Ashland, and Winifred. All of these Villages are close to all of the shopping and restaurants along Wedgewood lane, all of the banking on Parr Drive, 2 to 3 miles from Sumter Landing Square. All of these areas are just a easy Golf Cart ride away. Someone I met recently in the pool stated what his realtor told him "Your not just Buying a House, You are Buying a Life Style" That Quote is so True of the Villages. If you get bored living in the Villages and have nothing to do "It's You, it's not The Villages!!
Best of luck to you and your adventures.

I like being around younger people

I'm 72 and enjoy the energy of people younger than me. Someone said young people are weird. Well, go to a square some night and see some really odd older people.

Avoid the southern section and you will be fine.

That’s not true we are moving South of 44 in April. We already have friends our age and younger. We are sharing the building of our houses. It depends on how active you are, I’m 70+

Sandy and Ed 03-20-2021 05:52 AM

If you have not experienced TV, please rent first. Go to the Squares, shop, take in activities that are offered (and there are a lot), and you will find what fits you for convenience. We did (just bought and in our mid 70s). Found that north of 466a and south of 466 the most convenient with easy access to everything. By the way, when you buy, check out the bond prices. Very high south of 466a. We bought a pre-owned with the bond paid.

Some posters are dead wrong - one said the south is the ONLY place you can buy a new home - WRONG. When Swartz first built the Villages the now 'Historic Section' on the east side of 441 connected to TV by the golf cart bridge to SS was all trailers and manufactured homes - early on lots of single wides but mainly double wides ...all built on full size 90 x 60 lots ...lots of these are 30 to 40 years old and unless they were meticulously maintained are well past their best. The developer (and others) have been buying up the older ones as they come available and tearing them out and building new homes ...in the last couple of years 200-300 have been built - they will often times tear out the old one and allow you to visit the lot and give you a selection of homes that could be built ... advantages are - no bond or impact fees, mature landscaping - lots of trees and bushes , no traffic ..it's an island it's not a thru route there also quiet and peaceful ...no turnpike and Coleman Prison. lots of recreation without crossing the bridge. access to Lowes/Aldi Wal Mart/ Bealls the yet to be built BJ's etc. all via the gate off Paradise.
