Neith one is good if you look up the Slang the youngins put to either name. Try Urban Dictionary. You will have a blast with that site. :o |
Back to the Meet and Greet! When I was involved, it was on the 3rd Fri at 3:00, which wasn't a terrific time for me, but I really enjoyed the people I met when I was able to get there. I'm really hoping we can get this going. Just an FWI, there were only two of us the first time I went (in May or June). We might better try at one of our houses until fall (BYOB and snacks).

"that's corny, or that's stupid. And the only reason I'm laughing is because your laughing at your own dumb joke." That happened a lot. Google "Dad jokes." There's a lot of corny people out there. The best (but really the worst) Dad Jokes to tell on Father's Day |

The nasty/controversial/bigoted posters never came. I always wished they would so I could see if they had scales or one eye in the middle of their forehead. I remember one where everyone was asked to explain their screen name - I said mine was eweissenbach as my real name Ed Weissenbach was too long. Bill Wright laughed.

I have not been in The Villages very long. I have mostly just lurked in TOTV. I don’t know the nasty from the friendly. I would just like to attend this event to make friends and meet interesting people!

I think the meet and greet had taken a break by the time I moved here, but it sounds like a great idea. Depending on day and time, count me in. Thanks

Everybody has an ID. Pick a rec center in the middle of the villages.
Everyone can bring their own drink, plate, fork and napkins--and for a snack everyone can bring any kind of cut up fruit to feed 4 people on a serving plate with a toothpick in each piece so there is no "double dipping." You could cut up a melon. wash some blueberries [that's a lot of toothpicks], pineapple, apples, whatever. You walk around the "Fruity Buffet Table" and make a fruit salad. The leftovers go back home. No head count No collecting money No one to call if you can't make it No decorating No clean-up [does anyone have a table cloth?] |

This was my idea for a meeting that kinda runs itself. That would not be nearly as good as an event that is planned. Everybody has an ID. Pick a rec center in the middle of the villages. I personally find rooms in rec centers to be rather sterile and off putting, especially if there is a small gathering. But I don't have a dog in this fight. I regretfully can't attend a meet and greet this summer as I'm "up north". |

I said rec center because it's free. I use to be part of a neighborhood group who met at the rec center once a month. We pushed the tables together and played games and sometimes just chatted and ate what ever anyone brought. |
I would be interested. But could I order one meal there AND two to go? I would not want to disappoint my wife or girlfriend.

May come with one of my many female friends, we will see. Looks like it may be fun though this Friday. There are some posters I would not want to talk to at all and I hope that others who go understand that and fully get why and will help with keeping things civil.

ALL, first thank you for all of your thoughts and suggestions. I stopped by Eisenhower Rec center today (I also called the district gov), and this is what I was told. We can NOT get the use of a rec center on a regular basis unless we are a registered Villages club, and all people attending the meeting would need village IDs or guest passes. So based on this information the rec centers will not be a suitable location for the meetings.
As noted previously, restaurants are going to expect paying customers, so currently, I am out of ideas. If anyone else has an idea or contact with another business of facility let us know. |

Looks like the Lunch Menu there stops at 2:30 PM. |

We could invade one of the pools but that would require the people to have Villages' IDs. And maybe some planning with where and when with the Villages' permission as well.

VT I think your initial spot was ideal. Good Job.
