I am worried just a bit when there are those on here that espouse the denial of the Freedom of Speech based solely on the idea that they find someone's opinion to be "unbearable."
I must be using the old version of software on my computers because I am able to disregard those subjects that I find "unbearable" and move on to subjects that I find interesting. Since I am not interested (anymore) in speed bumps, gates and dog poop, I simply move on past the subject and go to a subject I find interesting. Is it my version of software OR is it that I am not addicted to subjects that I am not interested in and am able to pass them by without wringing my hands as I read every detail. less I miss something?
It is interesting that the same folks that find it tedious to read posts that they do not agree with, are the same folks that listen to opinions on television and bow to so-called experts that are found in error on a weekly basis.
I would rather see NO censor than posts eliminated, BUT it is not my forum and I willingly agree to the rules, no matter how many times I unknowingly step over the line.

I agree completely. There are numerous threads I don't read. I guess my browser is defective and doesn't inflict me with arguments over dog poop.

There has been and always will be people who will feel threatened by "other" and do whatever it takes to put them down, in order to stay on top.

This may be embedded in human genes from the Anthropological far back TRIBAL time. If someone is not recognized as MY tribal member they're the "stranger" and may try to kill ME. So, I must run back to my tribe and organize a HUNT for the "stranger". Today we have a very large, but unwieldy TRIBE called the United States and a smaller tribe called Florida - and those tribes disagree and function differently. And within Florida, we have various ethnic TRIBES. Depending on the real or perceived threat from some other TRIBE, we retreat to one of our other convenient TRIBES. The anthropological pressure within us may often overcome our modern logical ideas. It seems like an internal tug-of-war!

Why would I give a positive review for a Contractor or Restaurant that is below average.
I’ve been out of the BUBBLE for 3 months and don’t miss the food at all actually most restaurants do the bare minimum of food it’s not about the quantity but the quality.
Tipping wages and hourly minimum wages are almost twice what is paid in The Villages YET Restaurant price are lower I have not found a $16 hamburger yet.
Grocery store prices are less than Publix, WD and WalMart only price more expensive than in TV are liquor if it’s not on sale!

I guess its OK that when someone states that something another one is doing, and it's annoying, and that first person comes back with...too bad, I like it and will continue...hummm....selfish???? Doesn't take a high IQ to figure that one out. In addition the fact that you state your actual score...again..hummmm???
(There are many, many people in TV with equally high IQ's- yet I've never heard one brag or post about it)
I think the intelligence shines when one figures out the flaw .

All I know is that the opinions and mindset of many posters I have encountered on various threads on TOTV is not indicative of those I have met in the Villages community for the short time I've been here (spring 2021). Maybe it attracts all those high IQ types who need a place to pontificate? (I'd leave a ROLFL emojii if I could *wink*).

Seriously, though, the old adage is true - "opinions are like a****les, everybody's got one". If reading viewpoints on controversial subjects irritates or upsets you, don't click on any hot-button topic threads. Initially, I only used the forum for advice, referrals and information but then got sucked into The Dark Side, haha.

Exactly, I don’t recall a single thread with a ambiguous title that could have accidentally have sucked someone into reading something they find upsetting.

I agree, but don't you think posts like the one above, helps make it unbearable? We'll get through it though. Try sticking to the posts that interests you, then you won't have to complain.

One other thought on vaccines, if our parents or grandparents hadn't gotten the vaccines in 1918 and/or the 50s and 60s, those who refuse the vaccine today, might not be around now to complain, because they wouldn't have been born, if their grands and parents died from being unvaccinated.

Ummm, okay, but that argument has flaws. My parents lived through an era that was rife with polio and the vaccine didn't come into use until the 1950's. Summer was high season for the spread of that disease and kids were told not to go to public swimming pools, lakes, rivers, etc. but there were no mandates or heavy-handed actions like there are nowadays and polio was a highly contagious killer or could cause serious disabilities. My dad knew a child who died of it and I know someone who was affected but recovered.

The things they are vaccinating everyone for now were considered normal, childhood illnesses like chicken pox, mumps, measles. It's overkill on the vaccines. Not to mention things like Hep A and B, the former of which my doctor told me had to be given now because of all the foreign food service workers that had it and were infecting people.

The old days were a different time with most people in America on the same page when it came to public health and there wasn't the distrust of government like there is now. I remember getting vaccines when I was young, including small pox that left the round mark on your arm, and no one ever objected or gave it another thought.

Having said that, there was some controversy over the polio vaccine especially the Sabin one, I believe. It killed and injured a lot of children because there some some defect or contamination in the manufacturing process. People then became wary of getting it and there was a government-sponsored campaign to allay fears.

jbcincy 08-02-2021 02:27 PM

Bravo! Well said! People get stuck in their own "rightness", how boring!!!

Personally, I want to have discussions with people I disagree with. I want to learn why they believe what they believe, I want people to challenge my views and beliefs. I have no use whatsoever with immature posts ridiculing and calling names. I will admit on occassion I get annoyed and post a sarcastic post that could be interpreted as ridicule, but I try not to.

So, I am glad we can disagree publically. I wish we could have a section for political discussions/arguments, which you have to join and agree to whatever to participate in, but I expect that is not going to happen.

And while I am an evil bleeding heart liberal, I have met several conservatives here that I highly respect both for their civility and for the well reasoned and well-spoken arguments.

Be Nice, it’s free to post….

Yet, you are here reading and posting, it’s a free site for folks that use it to post as you take that luxury and use it at free will. The owners of the site pay for it with advertising dollars, from businesses that advertise, i.e. the coffee guy that you referred to. Use some common sense and realize they’re paying for your pleasure. Don’t attack the advertisers, unless you’re willing to pay to be on the site, and after referencing your posts obviously you wouldn’t pay. Smarten up and be nice. Your negative opinion should be kept to your negative self. Have a nice day, If you were nicer to people, you’d spend less time on your computer. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

Do not know who you are referring to but when advertisers insult and ridicule people who ask questions about what they are selling, while posting misleading ideas, they deserve what they get.

Hmmm, you would be required to pay for the full results. However, it states I was impressive and that I finished the test in 12m 58s which is faster than 97% of people tested. My strongest category is Visual Perception where I scored higher than 99% of people tested.

I’m taking the results with a grain of salt since they may be floating my boat so I will pay for the complete report. Well, I am smarter than that.:icon_wink:
