We are going to get run over with all the traffic in our carts going to Whole Foods.

I am not sure but thanks for asking.

Location !

Last week I heard "on the 44." Made sense if you are only catering to Villagers.

But 44 is too close to Clermont. 466 will attract as far away as Ocala.

So those south of 44 count your blessings. You have a choice of two Costco's.

merrymini 04-23-2024 07:22 AM

Up by hobby lobby is not central tv. I am tired of going up there for stuff and dealing with all the traffic and wish they would build closer to 44. None the less, I would not join, I do not buy the bulk stuff I used to buy and when I do, sam’s is okay enough although I prefer if something were closer, that is where I would go.

Costco pays and treats their employees very well ($18.95/hr on average+benefits), still has low prices.... and yes they turn a healthy $29.074 Billion profit (wait....WHAT?!?!?!?!?)
Hopefully that will help you understand.......:highfive::eclipsee_gold_cup:

Lukim 04-23-2024 07:31 AM

Check out the eyeglass prices. It will more than pay for your membership.

Miboater 04-23-2024 07:55 AM

I just bought tires at Costco and it came to $905 out the door with mounting, balancing, nitrogen and disposal. The cheapest price I got for the same tires was $1100 out at a tire store. That more than paid for my annual membership fee.

If over the course of a year we save several times cost of membership, why should we not join?

Costco has the best meat department and bakery of any store hands-down. I go to the Clermont store about once a month to stock up. Just picked up some big, beautiful, bright red New York strips that were 2 inches thick for $10.99 lb. Perfect for grilling medium rare. Every other place I've been to you're lucky if you get an inch and a half thickness.

Bought an American standard 1.25 HP garbage disposal for $99. Walmart has it for $145. That alone paid for almost half of my membership.

Their Kirkland (generic) product line is also the best. The Kirkland organic salsa is the best store-bought salsa I've ever tasted. I have made my own salsa from my own garden and Kirkland's was every bit as good.

Kirkland frozen tilapia is very good, and not sourced from China. Big white fillets and not fishy tasting.

I have Sam's and Costco and for the things that I normally buy, Costco is way better. Costco also seems to be very careful about the products it brings into its store, making sure they are good quality.

Costco's return policy is unmatched. Within 90 days you can return anything, no questions asked, even if you have partially used something. Who does that? And when you do return something, the employees don't give you an eye-roll. The only question they ask you is if there was something wrong with it. That's it. This is an especially important when you're trying something new because you're buying bulk/large quantities. If something doesn't taste good, for example, you're normally stuck with it. Not at Costco though.

Costco also treats its employees pretty well. I have talked to people that work there. During a visit there I was asking about employment for my ex-wife. The cashier and person who unloaded the carts at the register both had been there for over 10 years. Both looked over the age of 40 and didn't seem like the type of people who couldn't find a job elsewhere. They said they genuinely liked working at Costco. Most of the people I have seen working at Costco work hard, they don't look like they hate their job.

The only thing I probably wouldn't buy there are tires. My neighbor is a GM mechanic and he told me that Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, etc. get tires from manufactures that aren't up to the same quality standard as the ones they ship to places like tires plus or pure tire dealerships. I don't know how true that is though.

There's a reason Costco is so popular, it's not just herd mentality. Very good products at very good prices, awesome return policy, and they treat their employees well. Why wouldn't people want to shop there?

KAM+6 04-23-2024 08:00 AM

Please clarify the location. Is it the large vacant lot to the left of dollar tree and Beals? Not Hobby Lobby location.

I'm a BJ's member because it's close, convenient, has what I need, and is affordable.

Rather difficult to shop at Costco in a golf cart!

If I lived in Ocala, I would rather use 75 and exit at Wildwood, rather than using 301 or any other road to drive down.

When I go to Ocala, I also use 75 and get off at exit 200 or another exit to visit their stores. I could not imagine driving 441 or 301.

Living near Brownwood, I don't even like using 441 to go to Sam's, or 301 to go to Walmart.

I'm happy for Sumter County and The Villages, even if I don't love the location.

I've seen people strap refrigerators on the back of golf carts.

Wow that is a shame, Sam's and BJ's have a similar format but they are just Not Costco.
You will make up what you paid for the membership in the first six months in the savings that you get.

Maybe they'll let you drive your golf cart into the store to shop :-)

mikeycereal 04-23-2024 09:42 AM

Back in 2018 I joined a Costco just because of their trays of pesto salmon. Best I had ever had from a store and at a very good price. So I'll be joining for that again, plus other things. Now if I can only find a store with those individual bins for Jelly Bellys I am set!

MrFlorida 04-23-2024 09:55 AM

WOW, so much love for Costco.... they should give us senior discount memberships.

We live in St. John and it’s gonna be a 25 minute drive. 466A would be a better location.

Well maybe should of brought more in center of villages :crap2::wave:

Plus as a guy that does a lot of BBQ, having whole prime briskets for under $5/lb is awesome. Other than meat I have not fascination with the place.

Never been a big fan of the place. Even when my kids were younger we never needed a 96oz box of Cheerios. I still patronize local butchers and prefer that setting and helping the little guy. Something about buying my food that shares shelf space with Bridgestone all season tires doesnt work for me. Still adjusting to how retirees, most on TOTV...that talk mostly about eating out...need to bulk shop but as posted earlier, to each his/her own. Im sure most go for the all you can sample buffet in the aisles anyway...*

Maybe now they will put an exit for 466 off of I 75 (it was a supposed done deal) as it was rumored several years ago. That would make it easier for Ocala residents to get to get to the new Costco being built in TV. Never a dull moment in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown!

They aren't building the Costco so I can buy 3 chuck roasts instead of one. They are building for the family of 5 that will buy 5 chuck roasts, 20 lbs of ground beef, 2 cartons of toilet paper, etc. etc. etc.

The big buyers in wholesale clubs are small businesses. Families are probably second and non-profits next.

I was just looking around the FDOT website & there is nothing for an exit off of I 75 for 466. The closest are the improvements in Ocala where the new Buc-ee's is going in

About your I-75.
Never ever plan to drive on it before checking the traffic/accident maps first
on your cell phone.

I took my wife to the cancer center on 200 for a year from our home south of Ocala and found many days I had to take a alternate route to Hwy 200..

Case in point:
Remember when that truck hit the overpass north bound?
What a mess for traffic that was.

So, things I get at BJ's - sliced deli meats/cheeses, which you can ask for in fractions, and are MUCH less expensive than Winn Dixie or Publix. Nice selection too. Gas, which is the cheapest in the area (It's $3.27 this morning). Four-pack of Cafe Bustelo 10-oz bags ground espresso coffee (that's all we keep in the house, we like our espresso!). TUMs, nasal spray antihistimine. They have Texas Toast for much less than you can get anywhere. I got my prescription eyeglasses a year ago at BJ's. If you have a coupon, Land-o-Lakes butter's a pretty decent price there. Not much of a savings though if you don't care about brand names and get the Walmart brand.

Also - one thing BJs has that no one else has - Poland Spring water. I've had the Zephyrhills water, and Walmart generic. Both are okay, but not as "crisp" as Poland Spring. I don't drink tap water and I don't like the "deadness" of filtered or distilled water, and I don't drink carbonated water at all.

Also if you require Charmin toilet paper, you can get more for less at BJ's especially if you use coupons. TP isn't something you would buy just a couple rolls at a time, you'll never /not/ need it. So grab an enormous package of it, stuff it at the bottom of the linen closet, and you're good to go for a few months.

I prefer Walmart's Great Value TP and it's significantly less expensive than Charmin but I know a lot of people are brand-loyal.

If I'm running low on something that's on sale, or need to prepare for a party, I might get other stuff. Like the mini-quiches, or a big bag of those soft mints that are individually wrapped, or a chunk of parmasano reggiano cheese.

Oneiric 04-23-2024 12:28 PM

If so, Costco will have a tremendous footprint and parking area. Traffic on already busy 466 will become unpleasant.

I went there for an auto battery. "How long until you can install it?" I asked.
"Sorry, we don't install."
Sam's did.
Just saying.

Golf cart access

I'm looking at a older map and it appears that from LSL take Buena Vista and then Belvedere Blvd. Is this the correct golf cart way to that area?
