There was another article in the papers and lots of mention on TV (television) about The Villages Monday, Tues & Wed. . Three Village folks (doewsn't seem to be any connection between them) arrested for voting twice in the presidential election complete with names and photos. Their duplicate votes were not counted because the system worked as it is supposed to. . The latenight folks have been having a blast with it. Sadly another black mark for The Villages despite it was only 3 who got caught. Colbert's show Wed night monologue had a couple minutes on "life in The Villages." Funny and sad but true.

. This reporting was obviously Bias against the villages residence.

At least from now on when people across the country hear about the villages they'll associate us with voter fraud rather than STDs.........a win?

Per Fox 13 news he changed his affiliation to "No Party" after the election.

You must be kidding. No one wants the facts or investigates the story so they can make up their own mind. They want some biased journalist to tell them what to think.

Ya got that right. MSM have turned from informing to inflaming.

Three in the WHOLE country and all in The Villages---I doubt it---this is probably the tip of the iceberg.

We have 150,000 residents and some will be aberrant. Yes late night talk show hosts like to use it as banter. Yet we keep adding 350 new homes a month .... so likely they are simply advertising for the Morse family.

3 out of 150,000 is like a WuFlu stay for kids

A more blatant attack on democracy

[QUOTE=EdFNJ;2040683]There was another article in the papers and lots of mention on TV (television) about The Villages Monday, Tues & Wed…

I thought this thread was going to describe the more blantant attack on our democracy—the arrest and indictment of the two new Sumter County commissioners elected in 2020. They had campaigned on an anti-Developer platform centered on the reversal of the 25% increase in county property taxes and were elected in a landslide.

Their election reversed control of the county commission from one aligned with anything the Developer proposed to an independent body representing the residents and taxpayers in the county. The Developer had funded huge campaigns for their opponents, but the will of the voters was heard.

The new commissioners have done as they promised and taken the steps necessary to reverse the tax increase, opposed using every means by the Developer. In addition they have voted to resist Developer proposals to build large apartments throughout The Villages.

But now “someone” has filed a trumped-up complaint against the two newly-elected commissioners—they had phone conversations regarding county business but denied the calls to county investigators. They have been indicted for third degree perjury, a felony.

State law says that the Governor can replace local officials who face criminal charges. So watch for the two duly-elected commissioners replacement by the Governor. The Developer is a major campaign contributor to the Governor, so look for the replacement of the two new, duly-elected commissioners with people friendly to the Developer’s proposals. Expect your property taxes to take a major increase. And watch for a reversal of decisions rejecting construction of rental apartments throughout The Villages.

The Sumter County Commission will soon be returned to being lackeys to the Developer, as it has been for many years. This “complaint” against the two new commissioners is the most blantant attack on our local democracy, unimaginable really. In the short time since the election, the Developer has exerted its considerable financial resources to overturn the votes of Sumter County voters. Your vote meant nothing!

That’s the story I thought would be discussed in this thread.

Now we are starting down the conspiracy theory path that lots of dead people voted. There was at least one, and he was a conservative who voted for his dead wife.

I don’t understand why people are so uptight about Colbert having a little fun at the expense of the villages way of life , for as long as I can remember comedians have gotten laughs about senior citizens living in Florida ,it’s didn’t just start with the villages.I also think rightly or wrongly that we receive a little more interest when bumper stickers start appearing the day after an election for another one in 4 years

Unfortunately, at least two threads were recently started, that I am aware of, relating to that topic. Both of those threads rapidly disappeared. Kind of makes you wonder, a thread about absolutely nothing lasts seemingly forever, but a very important thread about relevant events effecting all Villages homeowners gets nixed in a heartbeat, hmmmmmm?
