TV began a major upgrade of the gate system, which started last year. I believe it's been completed. Some users are discovering that copies of cloned cards no longer work.

don't such cards create a security risk? Any scum bag with the required $15-25 would be allowed to drive around your neighborhood. This needs to be changed.

have u heard about the little red button

the discussion that I started on 10/11/22 about the gate card changes with District staff and trying to have staff commit to a yes or no answer.

https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...system-335899/

staff says that "This project will take approximately 24 weeks, with a six week lead time on equipment. Each gate will be converted one at a time, and we will run the two systems as the work takes place. With that said, both systems will not be operated at the same location at the same time – each gate will be on one system or the other."

My card is still working and I have not heard from others using their cloned card to say that their card doesn't work. If cloned cards are still working by the end of April, I would suggest that cloned cards will work with the new system.

And, I personally believe it's a better system than using the old cards and much safer.

I won't say I don't believe you, but I don't believe you.

They have NOT completed anything. In fact they haven't even started to make the change...

Add to that, if your card still works, a CLONED chip will work, since they are the EXACT SAME THING!

Here is the thread where this was first discussed. In the thread, they stated that the old cards will continue to work on the new system...

I don't give a flip if you believe me or not. They've long since started, in fact TV fielded tons of calls when the gates were removed as part of the changeover process late last year. The upgrade in fact has taken a little longer than expected. I don't know whether or not all of the changes have been made. There is no issue with actual gate cards TV has issued to residents. What I was referring to is certain cards that private people have cloned and had installed on their mirrors.

Not true....

Do you understand what a "cloned" card is?

It is an EXACT COPY of the current card you receive when you buy your home.

It is exactly the same as if you lost your card and got a new card. They CLONE the card from a computer code. Nothing but a series of 1's & 0's...

Intimately familiar with how the system works. The issue is that there are people selling the mirror cards to customers who are not always using the residents gate pass to clone. Therein lies the problem, and which is why some residents are finding that these gate cards have been deactivated.

But feel free to continue with your condescending attitude towards people who have information that you don't.

Question - Are the resident cards registered by The Villages? So, if you lose a card, can The Villages deactivate the card?

Is this typical or is there a better one available?

It depends on the size of the sticker in the mirror. Most of them are 25mm, but, if you can find a larger one, it will work better. If not, you can use 3 stickers in the mirror, top, bottom, and side set at different angles.

Yes and yes. That’s why if you lose one, you have to take the other one in. They’re deactivated and new ones issues.

Do tell, what other gate passes are they using?

If the gate pass works, a clone of the gate pass will work...

P.S. Everyone I've seen advertising those clones chips tests the chip. If they don't work, you don't pay...

Your card is no different than your neighbor's card...

We have 4 cards and the clone on the mirror. I think your rumor is incorrect since you don't have access to the data base.

Simply not true. They’re assigned to a homeowner(s), and are uniquely linked to them. That’s why you have to bring in remaining gate cards if one is lost or stolen.
