Wish we had a "like" button/tab" on TOTV as so many of the positive answers here are true! We wouldn't have moved to FL either---except for The Villages! There's nothing like it anywhere else!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it here!

Again, the heat does not bother me and does not keep me from doing anything I want, though sometimes I go through 3 or more shirts in a day! in summary, summer heat would definitely NOT be a concern for me in considering a full-time move to TV. |

Actually same as winter only more pool time |
Have to admit - and I know this is going to sound silly but . . .
The heat does not bother me - it bothers my wife. Moved from Long Island to So. Fl. 7 years ago and love the weather. Of course it is funny - In NY around April when it started reaching 60 degrees it felt so nice. Now 60 is cold to me. Although I know I will get used to it MY silly concern is will moving to The Villages be "too cold" for me during the winter months. Basically I have become a "Florida Wimp." But, I do know that I will adapt and adjust and will be out there chasing that little white ball around 12 months a year! And, I imagine going from one side of the fairway to the other will help me stay warm !!!! :D |
As a wannabe, I don't know what one's schedule would be but I tend to think that people who are active would do things in the early morning and take it easy in the afternoon when it would be hot and then do things after the heat has died down. The heat does not bother me and I would enjoy it being warm all year round.
I personally feel that it's no picnic in the northeast when at certain times the temps can reach 100 with a 100 percent humidity. Then, like all older people must do, take it easy and stay in a/c. I'm sure there must be indoor activities one could partake of in a/c. |
[QUOTE=Regor;588017]There is nothing to do here in the summer! Way to hot!! Don't even think of moving down here full time!!! Leave it to us that have to suffer all summer ;-)[/QUOTE
Seriously, you must be trying to keep the crowds down, so we can have this place all to ourselves! |
In my home town in upstate New York the temps were low but the humidity always 80% plus so I thought ou summerswere warm. when I moved to Memphis found both temps and humidity high but back then it didn't bother me. In fact my neighbors many of whom were natives of Memphis thought I was nuts to be outside playing stick ball with the neighborhodd kids. I have lived in Iowa and the humidity was high there and in Minneapolis were the air was drier and so could handle the summers nd winters better.
I moved to TV about 6 1/2 years ago and handled the summers well until this past summer. The humidity is the culprit. But because I am an early riser I could avoid most of the higher heat thus diluting the affect of the humidity. My wife would never have moved to florida but for the fact of The Villages. She was made for The Villages loves people, loves to dance loves to talk. Her only problem is her spouse what a dud. |

Our first summer
This past summer was our first summer here so I wasn't sure how we were going to handle it because we had heard so many "it's too hot in Florida in the summer" stories. We loved it!! We have a pool so swimming was an activity that we did several times a day. We could get our ecerices and relax in the pool. We learned to go do activities early morning or later evening. The heat of the day was spent shopping, swimming, and most anything as long as we weren't really active in the heat. We always had people over to enjoy our lanai and pool and had a blast. If it rained we had an excuse to be lazy that day or actually get some housework done! The longer days are a bonus and we could eat 2-3 meals outside which we really enjoyed. If it got too hot outside we could always go inside or jump on the pool. We love the summer here and wouldn't trade it for anywhere else.

I play Saturday's on a neighborhood softball team all 12 months and usually twice during the week I play golf on one of the championship courses year round. On the other four days of the week I will usually do a two hour workout on at least two days using resistance bands, a 10 pound medicine ball and two 20 pound hand weights. I also try walk or ride my bike a day or two a week. Generally I try to do at least one physical exercise everyday. As we get later in life I came to realize you only have one body so you best take care of it, to me it doesn't really matter what month it is.
I can remember back in Baltimore in January or February thinking I wish I could go ride my bike or take a walk, golf didn't even enter the picture and it was just too cold to leave the house. I'll take this over any of those days. |

What do we do???? With all the oppressive heat, rain, severe thunder & lightning storms there's not much to do. Factor in there's no one here during the summer months so the golf courses, movies, restaurants and squares are just like ghost towns. Trust me you really would not like it here during the summer.

What to do in the summer, we'll; we do walk away the pounds two days a week, Pickleball two days a week, golf two days a week and water volleyball three days a week, around five we are either on our or a neighbors lanai with adult beverages or off to the squares for dancing, movies or just hanging. Biggest problem is figuring out what not to do because there is only so many hours in a day. Love this place especially in summer when there are no crowds.
