I find it hard to believe that person could be deterred that easily from The Villages simply by the remarks made on this thread. From everything I, a non-dog owner have read and seen since moving here, The Villages is definitely in my opinion a haven for dog lovers. I've seen many while traveling around the villages, several walking their little cuties in our neighborhood and some even pooping on our lawn with caring owners faithfully picking up after them when they do. I've even, while sitting in my den and for my own amusement only, made up cute little names for a few based on the type and look of the dog. i.e Pugsley or Muggsy for a bulldog! Why I even think they've been provided with a doggie rest room specfically for their needs as you will see when you click the following link!

Cute picture! And you are right. That's why I decided not to make my decision based upon a few comments I didn't appreciate. There are tons of neighborhoods, many of which are probably more pet friendly than others, and scads of people! I'm certain fully 99% are lovely people! And those who made the comments I didn't care for also have the right to their opinions. I have to respect that and just won't take my dogs near them if we were to meet. Perhaps they are wonderful neighbors excepting the dog thing. I just wouldn't live near them! I hope this lady will reconsider and go down for her trial run, else she will always wonder what it's really like in TV...

I was riding through Sanibel today (WOW is it growing) and saw a guy walking his dog across the street from his house. This area is a courtyard wall that backs up to the street for about 50 yds.

Either smart planning or a lucky break. Something to keep in mind if you have a dog though.

looneycat 04-20-2012 10:35 AM

just wondering, is there a limit as to how many dogs you can have? I ask because I was playing golf at Bacall and I could swear I saw 4 dogs in someones birdcage across the street.

jimbo2012 04-20-2012 10:41 AM

it's ok they were Bird Dogs

You are allowed to have two domestic pets residing in your household. However, people do have friends with dogs, and visitors from away! So there would be no problem at all if you saw four dogs in a birdcage. That doesn't mean they permanently live there!

Then again, maybe they do.

So......call the cops......:doggie::doggie::doggie::doggie: :cus: OMG....the whole place is falling apart....how dare they :ohdear:

2 Pets

It's going to be a sad day when we have to decide which of our pets to bring with us to The Villages. The choice will be between our beloved collie-mix (Dayzee), and our two sweet kitties (Billy Bob & Emily Lou). This winter they remained at home - back in Michigan. Sure miss them!!!! Think the move would be hardest on the 15 year old dog. How did you all cope with leaving a pet(s) behind when you moved here?

Here2Stay 04-20-2012 12:18 PM

:doggie:

Folks, I agree that dogs should use their own yards, but I can't image stressing myself over someone's dog using my yard to potty...unless they don't clean up naturally. It's just their nature while walking to mark area's. To stress over your lawns with such; is just petty....worry about the weeds in your yards first!:a040: I take pride in my lawn trust me, let's all learn to not sweat such small things in life, your lawn is the least of life's issues!!!!

I think you can move with 3

gerryann 04-20-2012 12:26 PM

Doesn't anyone else find it strange that anyone would report about a sighting that was seen...(IN SOMEONE'S BIRD CAGE)........I think I might report him or her as a peeping Tom.

billethkid 04-20-2012 12:26 PM

is there a pet police that checks to see how many are moving in???

When I play golf I have a hard enough time concentrating on my ball let alone do a pet count along the way. I guess this also means I need to start wearing clothes out in the bird cage!!!

Leave a pet behind? Never! Bring your beloved dog and your two kitties. As long as your cats are kept indoors, which is a must because of predators, no-one will call the Cat Police. I know many people with multiple (invisible) cats. We've had three pets in our household since 2007. Sadly, this year we lost our 20 year old Himalayan. Now we have two very visible dogs. ;)

From everything I've heard, that's unofficially true or even a few more. But you can't obtain a new pet until you're under the two limit.

Actually, I think there aughta be a rule that you can't bring a dog into TV until you get FUMAR to allow your dog to lick his face! :throwtomatoes:
(Don't shoot me. I'm just kidding.... really I am!)

Bring all three.

Who is checking all homes for the number of pets?? I have yet to read here or anywhere else of someone having to get rid of a pet. Are we making a mountain out of a molehill????

Common Bogie, no ones making a mountain out of a mole hill. An honest questions was asked and unless I missed something sincere opinions are being given!

Addition: Well, after going back and checking again, perhaps there was one post that could be interpeted as making a mountain out of a mole hill. To me it wasn't enough of an issue for me to even noticed when I first read it! Anyway, bottom line is I agree with you about the original question about number of pets.

So, If I say that you can have 6 dogs and two cats......that would be accepted. Oh wait, I think it really is 4 cats and two dogs.
My point is all of these "opinions" are just that, someone's guess as to what the rules really are.
The deed restrictions say two pets.................when did you see that enforced??

gerryann 04-20-2012 12:51 PM

You're making a huge mountain out of a very small molehill.

duffysmom 04-20-2012 02:44 PM

DayZee there is absolutely no reason to leave a pet behind. Two cats and a dog are perfectably acceptable. As mentioned I have never heard of anyone challenging a pet owner about having too many pets; there are so many other more important issues to deal with here in TV. An elderly dog would fit in perfectly. In my neighborhood I've seen some very old dogs being loveingly walked by their people and I've seen some very old people being walked by their dogs as well, so come on down and enjoy paradise.

Yes, but can you have three moles as pets if you have a big enough molehill?
Does anyone know how big the molehill needs to be?

mulligan 04-20-2012 03:41 PM

mountainous

jimbo2012 04-20-2012 04:33 PM

I really can't see how it can be enforced what so ever,
no one has the right to come into your home and count?

Can you be stopped walking your dogs asking for ID,
no way enjoy your pets all of them, they enrich our lives.

I got a question, if I had a fish tank am I only allowed 2 fish.

OMG, Dayz,,,, don't even think about leaving anyone behind. OMG, my heart is breaking.... you will be grandfathered in with all your animals. Believe me, I came with 3 very bad little schnauzers, and was welcomed with all 3. I was told though as one passes, you can't replace it. I knew 2 were old already, 15 and 16, and that they didn't have much more to go and when they did pass, I replaced them with another schnauzer. So now I'm in compliance. Please do not think of leaving your wonderful pets behind. Looking forward to meeting your WHOLE family.... Kath

Yes, two fish, unless you have a bird. The Fish Police will stop by every couple of days to make sure your fish aren't reproducing.

A Sales Rep once told us that the "two domestic pets" rule was originally made to prevent residents from breeding animals.

Dayzee 04-20-2012 05:16 PM

3 Pets

No pet police - whew, glad to hear it. Looks like we'll have a car load and a VERY interesting ride when we return in October. Thanks everyone for the info and encouragement.

So if my guppies have babies, I'll just call the fish police I suppose.

You should have your guppies spayed or neutered to avoid that potential issue!

I consider myself a responsible pet owner who cares deeply about the well-being of my animals and that of my fellow neighbors as well. That being said, I walk my dogs 4 or 5 times per day, perhaps a mile ot two at a time. While I cannot control their "urge to go", I would never consider not picking up after them, and try to get them to go on a parkway or off someone's property when possible. Unfortunately this will not always be the case. I admonish those who are inconsiderate and don't pick up, but also am discouraged by those who choose to be irrational in their thoughts about pets. All of this talk has me thinking of canceling my upcoming house hunt, as I don't think I wish to be considered one of those awful pet owners. Currently I have another property in Florida and they have installed a pet post with bags and a waste can on the property. This both encourages people to pick up and throw out waste in a designated spot, or if not convenient, at home. The dog owners contribute to the cost. I do understand you have some dog parks there, but one of my dogs was attacked by a dog on our street and I am hesitant to go to a park where dogs are off lead. So we walk-a lot! I think we all need to temper our thoughts and consider we are not all on the same wavelength.

Wonderful !!! I hope you'll be very happy there.....

Gee let's see, you see something from the street, out in the open, and have to worry about people like you thinking that they are a peeping tom?
if anything is strange it's your statement!!!

I brought the dog in, but I knew who made the call, so I retaliated by calling the zoning board about a sign he had in his yard advertising some multi-level marketing scheme he was into, and was against local rules, and they made him take down the sign. Had he simply come to my house and explained that our dog's barking was disturbing him and asked if there was anything I could do, I would have been more than willing and happy to solve the problem. By calling the cops, he unduly got them involved, got his own problem brought to the attention of authorities, and lost and chance of gaining my respect or friendship. If you fell you are in the right and don't have the guts and confidence to approach things correctly, you are probably not going to get a satisfactory result.

sorry but it wasn't stupid, it was effective and stopped the problem immediately, I'd say it turned out to be the best method since the direct approach failed, several times, miserably. So you were completely wrong....and why would I care about your experiences since your method was stupid and ineffective, oh, don't like the words then DON'T USE THEM WITH OTHER PEOPLE!!

hotrodgirl 04-21-2012 10:06 AM

Fumar, how succinct of you! Yes, I am very happy there. However as a consummate positive thinker I am happy wherever I am. We make our own happiness in the end result, don't we?

Leisha2 04-21-2012 10:26 AM

Just a thought

Dogs aren't the only animals, etc. that pee and poop on lawns. We have squirrels, anoles, snakes, I think grass was invented with this purpose in mind.

You say that you "could swear you saw 4 dogs in someone's birdcage". Why on earth would this bother you? We often have friends and over-night company visit us, and often they have dogs. I don't understand why you would be concerned enough to post this.
