I have lived all my life in CT and this is the first Christmas season I am in the sunshine. I am heading back to CT Dec 17 to spend the holidays there as I had made "a deal" with my husband that my father would never wake up alone on Christmas morning. But aside from the family, I have to say that it just doesn't seem like the holidays while it is 70 or 80 degrees. I guess it is all what you are used to and what puts you in the Spirit of the season. Happy Holidays everyone!

I understand that the different climate does make it feel different...however, if you do what you always did in this new home, than you will get what you always got. (At least that is what Dr. Phil says.)


Put up a tree, invite people over for simple things. Get some good soup at Toojays and some easy sandwich fixings and have a couple of friends or seven over. Go to some of the musical events and whoa baby, after a couple of years your month of December gets fuller and fuller and your heart gets all FILLED with that wonderful spirit of the season.


I wish for you and your dear father and all family, a wonderful satisfying Christmas. It is a good thing you are doing, being with your dad.

Well, if you think about it, it was probably 80 degrees in Bethlehem when that baby was born. Probably born in July rather than December because July was when the census was done. Dec. 25 is the winter solstice holiday, not a birthday.

Exactly! Everyone has their opinion and entitled to it!
While I love The Villages I want to be with family - wherever
that takes me.

I'm lucky to have my Son and his wife spending 8 days with us
here in Tampa.
Now if I really had my wish it would be 8 days in T.V.
(still trying to sell our house here in Tampa!)

Also, I would love to be able to have my 3 brothers and their
families here but not possible.
Two are in N.Y., one in California.
Maybe next year!

Diane - I totally understand what you are saying! Cold, snow, warmth, sun - it does not matter. Family and good friends are what makes our holidays special.
So wherever they are is where we want to spend the holidays!

I have experienced both climates:

For those who were raised in the northeast may not feel like it's not Xmas, because it is not cold. When you see a Xmas tree lighting, and it's eighty degrees outside.

My first Xmas tree lighting in TV, it was 80 degrees and it felt great. Everyone was in the spirit of Xmas. This seems, more preferable to "snow", and freezing one's butt off, as in Rockerfeller Center. It gets real cold in Manhattan, when it's windy and hitting you in the face, as it rounds the corners. I remember one year when you couldn't stand the cold, for more than an hour.

I too have my family in heaven, but I have a close cousin moving to Florida early next year and my son in Ft Lauderdale along with my granddaughter. I totally enjoy being with my family, and I will prefer it be, in the warmer climate.

Xmas in NY was really the best only because the whole family was living and together. I look back at those times fondly and longing that it that way just one more time.

BTW - I hate snow, except if I am watching a movie on television. :D
