Dukes vs Hellmans vs Miracle whip

So do I. It's the PA Dutch influence. Or my mom's French Huguenot heritage. Slaw/potato salad/egg salad/macaroni salad--mayo, sugar and vinegar. Tomato sauce--I don't know what that influence that is, but IMO tomato sauce needs a little sugar to cut the acid. It "makes" the sauce.

I don't think it's the lack of sugar that makes Dukes taste better. You can't even detect the taste of the sugar in Hellmans. Dukes is just a great taste. And I was a lifelong Hellmans fan.

Miracle Whip is salad dressing, but Hellmans is mayo, and good. Dukes just edges it out a bit with a je ne sais quoi element. Only my opinion, though.

So I am a Miracle whip fan, which isn't mayonnaise! I hate Hellmans, so does that mean I probably won't like Dukes? Is Dukes more like salad dressing than mayonnaise? Never tasted it before.

It seems to be the norm around here.

I love irony.

Yes. If you prefer Miracle Whip over Hellman's, you won't like Dukes. Dukes is more like Hellman's.

Here's what I think about Walmart: I don't know exactly what I think about Walmart.

For me it's a royal PIA to shop there. I'll stick to the smaller, less crowded stores and am very grateful that I can afford to pay higher prices to have a calmer shopping experience. I'm sorry if that sounds snotty, but grocery shopping is actually enjoyable for me--but not at Walmart. And we don't buy enough food to make that big a price difference over a year's time. However, I am glad it is there for the young families and others who absolutely need to or want to get lower prices on the food they buy the most of. The only time we go there is to get something in the non-food area, and if we happen to need groceries, we will get them while there. But generally we avoid the place, especially in the winter season.

I do not like their drive-Mom-and-Pop-businesses-out tactics, nor the fact that they got caught for charging less than break-even prices on things in stores located in areas where they wanted to drive out the competition. They are a prime example of corporate greed in my opinion. BUT, they do employ a lot of people. I don't know if they pay a fair wage equal to other companies equal to the skill level of the job, so I can't comment on that. So there's a lot of contradictions there.

I agree !

I agree with you. I also enjoy grocery shopping at some stores, Fresh Market, Aldi's and Save-A-Lot. Aldi's and Save a Lot is not a snotty experience. Aldi's in particular, at both locations you see many random acts of kindness.

Your O/V/S/S/P combo sounds good. Now if we could get some decent home-grown tomatoes around here... (à la Ohio or Jersey or PA).

My Dad put country white gravy on tomatoes. It looked gross but once I tried it, it was yummy!

I swear my father would by Mayo in a gallon tub somewhere in Decatur IL to feed is litter of ten. To this day I will still have a Mayo sandwich.
That is bread & mayo only.
