We prefer not to have bins to bring in and store.

100% in Agreement
I have never lived anywhere that allowed garbage to be put out in bags. Birds have pecked and opened up the bags. I have seen garbage strewn streets and lawns. Paper blown a block down. And when walking the bags stink. Surprised yet not surprised living down here that this practice is allowed. Very unsanitary. My guess is the Village Owners don't want to pay the money for garbage cans. Also: I'm not talking about cans with take off lids; I'm talking about the big black cans with flip lids that were supplied by the municipalities I lived in. You would also need less garbage workers. Lets move up to the 21rst century.

We would have those who would say "I'm disabled and special", and like a friend of mine leaves his trash cans on the street.. Stating I can not drag those big cans back to the house, so he leaves them on the street.
I keep a 32 gallon can in the garage, with black bag in it, and deposit my kitchen bags into the black bag. Then take the black bag to the street on pickup days. Simple, efficient, and no trash cans on the street. |

We love the system here having come from SoCal where we had 3 different large bins that we had to use to separate our trash and different types of recyclables. It was a huge PITA, and was just getting more and more complicated at the time we were selling and moving. Don’t miss any of it! Not only was the whole process a huge hassle, but we had very lax HOA rules because our dues were only $25 annually and that was optional, so there were trash cans that never left the driveway during the week despite the rule to keep them out of site. Our neighbors across the street lined up the three large cans against their garage door and left them there permanently. The system here is fantastic, and we have zero issue with critters, bugs, etc, but maybe that’s because we do use our garbage disposal whenever possible, plus we don’t have to put our bags out until morning since pickup time is around 11am for our street. If you’re worried about birds use black trash bags as they tend to be attracted to only the white bags. I hope this system never changes.

Where I live, some people put the garbage out the evening before pickup. I always put mine out on the morning of pickup. Last week mine was picked up at 7:45, but usually it is between 8-11 am. I live alone, and I always cut up or tear up or fold up little boxes, so with twice a week pickup, I only fill one kitchen trash bag (sometimes half). If there are bigger cardboard boxes, if it is raining, I don’t take them out, but morning rain is less common here than afternoon or evening rain. |
Jimmy.....you must be new here. New people moving here seem to always want things done here like you had back home. The system works fine here, get used to it.

Garbage bins ? Are you kidding ?
Garbage bins are ugly !
|
Do you really want to see couches sticking out of the top of them all the time ?
Nuff said. |
That is the last thing we need. Garbage cans trashing up neighborhoods like other communities. Of course I would love to see garbage cans blowing around yards in the wind.

Trash cans
I agree with all the answers and want to give a shout out to our wonderful garbage men. They will take anything and do it with a smile on their faces!
The only time I had a problem was when I put my plastic bag out the night before and Coyotes got into it. I learned my lesson to only put it out the morning of! |

Your guess shows you don't understand how things work here. By "the Village Owners" you are probably attempting to criticize the Developer. He may or may not deserve criticism but he does not own the Villages and would not be the entity paying for garbage cans. Any cans that might be purchased would be paid for by either the residents, the CDDs which are funded by the residents, or the utility company which would bill the residents. |

"only the adaptable survive. . " jimmy, either you adapt to the the villages, or you won't like it here. . it your life its now or never you aint gonna live forever You just wanna live while your alive your heart is like the open highway like TOTV said, you did it your way You just want to live while your alive Its your life . adapted from Bon Jovi |
I think the system works really well, to be honest. I’ve never had a single issue in 7 years with a bag being broken. Cardboard goes out in the morning.
Where my parents live in AZ, they put their bags into a bin dug into the ground with a large lid. This is a clever way of keeping the bags hidden until pick up day. But it severely limits the amount of rubbish collected each week which can be difficult if you generate extra during a holiday. |
I think the garbage system here is the best I've experienced in my life. The trash-to-energy recycling process is great. A Leader in Sustainable Waste Solutions | Reworld

About 25% of the Villages population lives alone and a large proportion of those are females over the age of 65. Even for men over the age of 65, it's not as easy to roll those big bins to the curb as it was when we were 35. With arthritis and other health issues, it's just asking for injuries to require the Villages residents to deal with moving big bins.
As people mentioned, the bins could become a projectile during storms. We do get hurricanes here. The streets are narrow. I saw a truck hit a bin in a community adjacent to the Villages and send it flying 30 feet one time. I, for one, am very happy with the current system. |
I love the current system. No can left out for days.
|
just not necessary when we get pick up twice/week , plus it would be an eyesore cuz ppl would leave out all day long AFTER garbage was picked up , plus in hurricane season they’d be blowing all over the neighborhood …….

I like it the way it is. Don’t fix something that isn’t broke

I completely disagree and think the system here works exceptionally well. Compared to where I lived before, the fact that they come twice a week and take anything you put out is fantastic. And if you have a huge item, all it takes is a phone call to the district. It's ideal, frankly. |

It would be nice if there were some common trash drops for those that are leaving town. Trash that shouldn't be on the street for days because of pests and too smelly to leave in their home. |
Among all the other thoughtful replies, I would think that having garbage cans would require a different type of hydraulics-fitted trucks, which are more expensive and surprisingly noisy at 6am. I kinda like the way it is now: less automated, simple, quiet, and it allows me yet another chance to be friendly.

Bottom line IMO... We had the bin approach (2 - trash & recyl) where we previously lived, near TV. Wheeling them out twice weekly was a pain. Then they may be left near the curb all day if you're out. Then you needed space to keep them. Taking up valuable garage space, or on the house side. Then it takes LONGER for the truck's auto-pickup mechanism. Perhaps more reasons.
Our guys - if it's one bag, the truck barely slows down and they pick and toss in. ...sorry for the trash talk. |
The trash crews here are great and love that they come twice a week. Hell of the deal for $20.00 a month.
To the original poster: The average garage here in TV can barely handle a car, 2 golf carts, a couple of bikes, storage cabinets, golf clubs etc. Where in the world would one put one of those large rolling trash bins??? |

If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Right now I’m not limited to one or two trash bins. If I have a lot to get rid of it all goes to the curb and it’s all picked up. When you have bins they limited you to having everything in the bins and the lid most close. Most likely they would need new trucks to pickup the bins. |

as well as the other Suggestion that folks WAIT until DUSK to bring “Trash Bags” to Curbside … … as to Maintain the Curb Appeal throughout the neighborhoods A Primary Reason my Wife and I were First Attracted to the Villages was due to the Picturesque neighborhoods !! My Immediate Description, that I continue to use to describe it is, “The communities appear like a Disney Park for Adults.” That Goes Without Say: Garbage Cans/Bins at the foot of driveways would Most Definitely make ‘OUR HOMES” look like the typical neighborhoods we all left behind !! ADVISE: a Quick Splash of [inexpensive] Ammonia before Tying Up Kitchen Waste Keeps ALL unwanted Scavenger's at Bay by Masking Odors !! |
I’m sure if you moved to a town that had garbage bins they would love to have you.

Another thing bin pickups would put the hard working sanitation workers the pick up our trash out of job. Yes jobs are important for ones that have to work and make living.
