Agree

It is very antiquated and unhygienic how we have it here in the Villages. Leaving trash on the ground gets a crazy amount of bugs/rodents, and makes a soupy mess when it rains. It's also terrible for the crew to have to handle leaky dirty cardboard and trash bags flying around in the rain overnight.

I recommend people find their CDD reps here and email them a simple request to modernize the system as I have done as well.

Thank you

We never have those problems.

Prefer not to have to worry about the garbage cans.

Another thing bin pickups would put the hard working sanitation workers the pick up our trash out of job. Yes jobs are important for ones that have to work and make living.

We always double bag our trash putting the kitchen bag into a large black bag. We do not have room in our garage to store any type of big spastic bin. Also those bins would likely be sitting at the end of the drive for a long time after the garbage was picked up.

We are just fine with out bins and remaining civilized!!!

You don't like having no bin here, then move to where you can be garbage bin happy. Trucks are not set up to raise the bin and empty into receptacle in rear of truck. Price will increase and **** everyone off. Works great how it is.

Last week, on a windy day, I was driving to Ocala on 475. Empty plastic garbage bins were in front of most of the farms, I didn't care until..... on the two lane road, 55 mph, a large bin blew into the street in front of me.... an 18 wheeler was coming toward me in the other lane.... my choices were, die or hit the garbage bin....

Since I'm here you can figure which one I chose. Did some damage to my car though. :cryin2:

Imagine bins blowing around on windy days.

Back home we always rolled the bin out (didn't carry it, they DO come on wheels these days, for those who complain about how cumbersome and heavy they were in the stone-age when dinosaurs roamed the earth). Everyone used the big black garbage bags - also known as trash can liners, so no one ever had to worry about gross maggot-infested rotting gelatinous goo sticking to the barrel. The trash guy would lift the can, jerk it toward the truck, the full liner would slide out into it, and then he'd lay the can back down on its side.

Unless there was a hurricane expected, you never saw empty cans tipping over and blowing into the road because they were intentionally tipped over on the bank of the property.

So you move here and want to change things to the way they were where you used to live. 🤔

Well, good for back home. They're still ugly, still unnecessary extra landfill plastic, still takes longer to empty into the trucks, winds can still blow the cans, and we still have small garages. The way it's done now is cleaner and more attractive, and I for one am happy with it.

Garbage bins

In response to our new member, I take umbrage in suggesting that The Villages is antiquated or uncivilized.

We have lived here 13 years and have not experienced plastic bag problems. Once in a blue moon something may escape from the truck as it leaves the area. I solve that problem by venturing outside and picking it up.

I put leftover chicken bones and other smelly items in a Ziplock back and put it in the freezer until pickup day. It takes a while to build up a habit of remembering to get it out on the right day.

I am closing in on 80 years. I don’t care if the bin has wheels or not. Not a fan of storing it somewhere either. We don’t generate enough waste to even put out bags twice a week. Maybe some residents should look at how much garbage they are producing to reduce their foot print instead of requesting bins that would certainly result in higher assessments for purchase new trucks and bins.

People leave where they came from for various reasons. I can’t believe that using black garbage bags means our area has not developed modern methods.

I think that color coded trash cans are the way to go here in The Villages. Just like those color coded scrunchies on the top of cars in the parking lots. Just think ..... walk down the street and see which neighbors do what for fun. No need to track down a car in the parking lot and follow it. You may be amazed at what surprises are awaiting just a few houses away!!! Consider color coded trash cans as a way of enhancing "neighborhood solidarity".:a20::a20::a20::a20:

You don’t have trash cans rolling around the streets! Good reason

Like having no garbage cans

Very glad we don’t have garbage cans! Back in Illinois people leave them out for days after garbage is collected. Also they store them in front of their houses which looks terrible. Be glad they eliminated that from happening in the villages!
