It's hard to put a finger on it, but anything that doesn't go along with the "Big Brother" concensus, is ridiculed.

It's so obvious for "outsiders" to see this. And so obvious that others are really afraid to say anything about it.

Besides the heat and humidity, the other concern, especially of my husband, is that the homes are TOO CLOSE TOGETHER......which leads to "lack of privacy".

I am confused. You have been a member since 2008 and have over 1400 post? Why do you care about what is going on here? Just curious

I have never lived further north than Atlanta and I can't imagine the cold. We loved Atlanta area but headed south in the winter.:laugh:

Unlike you I love the cold and a fire in the fireplace. That was my point that some people actually like cold. Sorry people were offended at the attempt at my humor in pointing out if you try hard enough you can find things wrong even in paradise.

Back in 1994, we sold our family home here in Vermont....the home we had raised our children in for twenty years.......to a couple who had survived Hurricane Andrew in Florida. The wife had been traumatized after their roof blew off.......she told us, "All I want to have is a breath of cool refreshing air".........we were the ones moving to the Gulf Coast of Florida (our second move to Florida.....the first having been back when the children were very very young; now they were both graduated from college and on their own).

When we returned from Florida, both times, back to Vermont, we also loved experiencing breathing in that crisp cold air.........it was refreshing and invigorating. We had missed the nice fresh air. We bought our third home in the same exact neighborhood.........back with all of our good old friends and neighbors......where we had all raised our families together.

Now, the lady who bought our home in 1994.......finally decided, after a decade in Vermont, losing her husband, her son growing up, etc. that she could no longer take the LONG COLD WINTERS.........so she had a home built in South Carolina........

This is a free country after all.......and people are allowed to change their minds. She did. We did. You have.

In my humble opinion, the ones who have "the best of both worlds" are the snowbirds who can winter in Florida for a spell.......but then return NORTH to their primary homes for the spring and summer and autumn months which are beautiful. A wise realtor in Venice Florida reminded me as we were selling our beachfront condo......"You don't have to buy in Florida in order to enjoy the winter season in Florida"......I'll always remember that............especially since I notice that MOST FOLKS return north no later than May.........to escape the oppressive heat and humidity.

Moving long distance, back and forth again........even if one sell all of their furniture........is still expensive as there are always personal items to move. Been there, done that. So better to BE SURE one way or another before acting in haste and repenting at lesiure.

Not sure what your point is but most people who make a move do not act in haste. Heinekens is a man who visits as a guest more than once and describes his probably free visits as being " at the mercy of his hosts" "not allowed to go out on his own" , gets behind an "older" gentleman in line and sees fit to mention it, orders a hamburger ( perhaps he was "forced" into this) then complains about the price and makes totally untrue statements about "residents not patronizing this restaurant", plays his initial game of golf and has a problem with the Starter, is surprised that a restaurant will not allow him to bring his own drinks ( Is this permitted anywhere, I would not have the gall to bring my own drinks into a restaurant), would not buy ice cream since the golf cart ride is "too long" and after all this he concludes, a year later mind you, that he would not move because of the weather. This was a very transparent hit piece. What I cannot figure out is WHY?

I would never venture any opinion on living in Vermont unless I lived in Vermont. I can read about it, I can visit it, I can join a forum and read what others think and feel, but unless and until I live there, I cannot truly know how people act, react, interact and live. I cannot really make any valid decisions as to why anyone would say that it is perfect and bucolic.

I would be a bit sceptical until I, myself, had laid down the cash and adopted a place as my home place. So that it was mine to identify with and to grow used to and to enjoy and ultimately to defend.

I love The Villages. It is my home. You love Vermont it is your home. No place is perfect, but most people grow to love the place that is home to them.

Gracie, I'm with you...just don't get it. It's like voting..if you vote, you can complain. If you don't vote, don't complain. If you live here you can complain. If you don't live here, well, what's it to you anyway?

Funny that I said I would never move to Florida because of the heat and humidity until I visited TV. I so not golf, dislike being told what to do, do not like group activities, am mostly a loner, do not drink much, and dislike conformity and yet here I am.

I think some visitors to TV tend to treat it like a Club Med and forget that it is our home town. I would not be allowed to carry a drink into a restaurant where I used to live so why would I think to do that here? The problems I see with occassional visitors is that they forget people live here, act like they are at a resort and forget that the workers here are also residents and will not smile to please the tourists no matter what is said or done. As for prices, food and clothing here are the least expensive out of every place I lived. However I never vacationed anywhere inexpensive so I have no point of reference.

I don't get it. I have never felt the need to contribute to a message board of a place I visited but don't want to live at. It's almost sad.

As for the OP bringing his drink from home... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What's next, bringing your ham sandwich from home?

I think that there is a place on this earth for everyone to be happy. In many words, the OP was stating that this would not be the place for him. I respect that. There are people who say they love living in NYC but It would not be the place for me to live, just to visit. Some people love being out on the country...sure the mountains are beautiful and the air is fresh but not for me. Some like the cold and snow....not for me any more. Is TV perfect??? Nope but it is as close to perfect for me and the way that I want to live so different strokes for different folks. That's why there is a whole wide world out there....there has to be a place that's near perfect for everyone.
