I have to say, I never like it when someone corrects people. Some people post fast and didn't catch some of their mistakes. We aren't getting graded on here so we don't have to make sure we spelled everything correct, punctuated everything right or accidentally left a word out.
Let's also remember we are all getting up in the years and maybe some have a slight handicap. For instance, maybe some bad arthritis in their hands, maybe there's a little dyslexia or a hard time seeing. We certainly wouldn't want them to feel embarrassed to make a post for fear of being called out.
As long as we know what they meant to say and we can understand it, there is never a reason to correct anyone's grammar.
Remember, we are living the dream here and just sharing information and stories. We aren't in school anymore.

I believe the cringe you speak of was just illustrated in your response. When you said "Yup. I seen it many times!" grammatically should have read "Yup. I have seen it many times!" or perhaps the contraction of "Yup. I've seen it may times!"

Just kidding Bonanza but I do believe that all posters should be heard without
critique of spelling or grammar errors. We can dissent in the content but should be sensitive to its delivery. I care little in regards to the level of eduction by all posters.

Absolutely agree. If posters have so much spare time that they sit at their computers waiting for someone to make an error, maybe they should volunteer at one of the local schools grading papers. Schools would probably love to have these experts on board.

My son corrects me all the time. It's because I now, like my dad, I get words mixed up. It's funny. I told him recently that one of the biggest surprises for me was the amount of water birds down here. How much I enjoy watching them and taking their photos with a zoom lens. I told him my favorite bird was the penguin. He politely waited a couple of seconds for me to correct myself and when I didn't, he suggested "Dad are you sure you don't mean pelican?"

It's a gradual genetic affliction that I can see coming, a bit like Norm Crosby.

I use to hang out with younger teachers and whenever I was groping for an actors name, a movie or character they would provide "In Conversation Support" so my part in the conversation went a little smoother. I miss them a bunch.

I, too, care little in regard (no "s" -- regards are greetings)) to a person's education because it's meaningless,
as I have found, in relationship to their spelling and grammar.

It would appear that if a member recognized a spelling mistake etc then s/he must have been able to recognize the word or intent for what it is (ie the posters intent)
Borrowing from a previous poster if a member keyboards "I prey"well a reader certainly understands the posters intent. The only opportunity to assist the poster without drawing attention to him/her is via a PM.

A public display is likely either because of ignorance or an intentional jab and again if not then please PM.

People retired and posting on this forum have accomplished much in their lives and should remind themselves that this isn't their first rodeo ;)
