“White Christian male”? “ into guns” . Stereotype much?🙄

Hmm, let’s see:

White Christian male?

Into guns?

Lives with mom?

Hints of narcissism?

Idealized violence?

Nope, nothing to see here.[/QUOTE]

Idiot

This is an immature 21-year-old who was smart enough on how to get access, but dumb enough to do it. If anyone is truly to blame is our government, they want something to be kept secret, but don't take the required steps to make sure it is. This little stunt is probably going to put him behind bars and even if it doesn't it will financially cost him and his family with lawyer fees big time.

Government Lies

The government needs to lie to the public to protect it from themselves. Their first goal is the security of the nation not an informed public. The founding fathers realized that the general public is not smart enough to deal with the truth about some things. The best example is who they have elected over the years. Especially 5 years ago. The general public believed in ufo's, aliens, Bigfoot, lochness monster, and make America great again. It needs to remain treated like a 7 year old. Someday it may grow up.

A paid spy ? An immature air force member with "over his head" responsibilities ? A low lying fruit scapegoat for something even more complicated and covert than we can imagine ?

He took a oath to protect and defend his country. Classified information he was able to read was made possible by a complete investigation of him. It’s very extensive and involves friends neighbors and police. It’s done by the FBI. It’s is not given to everyone. He know his responsibility and know what is going to happen. So no he gets what he gets and if one contact is killed for spying for us he should be shot.
So I hope u now understand what’s going on an Trump should receive the same consequence.

Being singled out due to obvious characteristics, it appears.

I find the content of what was revealed as disturbing as a low level military person having access to it. Would you rather not know the truth?

Blackbird45 04-15-2023 08:59 AM

No one and everyone are to blame.

This is not a political issue, both sides of the isle can take the blame for what goes on in Washington.

The way it works is that a low-level staffer overhears a janitor talking about an idea they have. The low-level staffer passes it on as their own and this continues up the food chain, each level taking credit. It is explained to the President at the time this is the best idea since slice bread. When the s**t hits the fan, everyone runs for cover and the janitor goes to jail. This is not confined to Washington it is also the how corporate America works.

For some reason, most of us know little about this Air National Guard group or what they do. This would have been a good start, for most of us who just want information, not political puffery. From what I see, this unit has one aircraft. ( an F-15),

Along with their federal reserve obligations, as commonwealth militia units the elements of the Massachusetts ANG are subject to being activated by order of the Governor to provide protection of life and property, and preserve peace, order and public safety. State missions include disaster relief in times of earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and forest fires, search and rescue, protection of vital public services, and support to civil defense.

Secret

I understood that your clearance was secret - because by revealing it you opened yourself to compromise.

I unfortunately had to handle classified while on active duty. Need to know rules work for those who are using classified but the kid wasn't a user. He was an IT tech who had access because of his job which was to make classified systems work. Go to any IT tech, civilian or military, and you'd be amazed at the access these people have. I recall going into the server room at my last civilian job and seeing a monitor setup with emails from everyone scrolling down the screen. The IT tech at my first civilian job was fired after he printed out and distributed executive salaries.
I don't know if there is a fix except for perhaps more oversight.

Like a lot of things, the simplest explanation is probably the correct one. I think that he is just a game-playing male that needed his gambling associates to think of him as someone more important than he actually was. He felt that he had enough separation and cover in his obscure group that he could brag and blab out some secrets to show himself to be important. It took about a year for his existence to leak out. We will slowly find out more about this incident, but I think that it will turn out simple and unsophisticated.
.......I also felt that he would get "the book thrown at him" in order to dissuade any similar incidents in the future. I was VERY surprised to hear this morning that his maximum penalty would be 10 years. I was thinking that a max penalty of LIFE was needed to discourage this type of thing.
......More and more details will likely keep coming out. Somebody will write a book and maybe even a movie comes out.

Yes, a great POTENTIAL for a much BIGGER anti-social action than merely showing off knowledge of US secrets and US spying on other friendly countries. It seems that this problem was "nipped in the bud", but why did it take so long (over a year) to be discovered?

Because the internet is an ugly, ugly place. There are over six MILLION servers on Discord, each with its own members, some public, some private, some semi-public (you just need someone to OK your request but anyone who asks for it will get it). Each server is "owned" by its own person/group/company.

The FBI doesn't monitor every single person who logs in to every single server 24/7. Not to mention each account has the ability to DM/PM (private/direct message) any of the other accounts that they share servers with, and many members are members of multiple servers.

The owners of the servers aren't able to see the private messages sent between individuals; only what is posted on their chat channels.

There is one server I know of, specifically, that is run by literal neo-nazis, and they promote violence against Jews, blacks, Catholics, Muslims, Mexicans, and any one /else/ if they don't live in either Germany or the USA. They use code words to get around anyone trying to catch conversations triggered by actual words (such as gun, rifle, death, Washington DC, and the categories I just mentioned higher in this paragraph).

One of the members of the neo-nazi server was playing the game I play, and that person has since been banned from the game I play, and our Discord server.

But that's the kind of world we live in. And these are the kinds of people who are seeing any confidential/classified material that some idiot grown-ass ADULT (he's 21) part-time ANG twit chooses to share with their gamer pals.

With respect to having difficulties hiring Police, I am convinced that here in TV Land and the greater USA, we need to rely on electronics and cameras to be the eyes needed on a neighborhood when Police are NOT available. We have had recent threads about speeding in The Villages and what causes it. But, one thing that would stop speeding and crime in a neighborhood is more use of cameras to deter crime and problems.
........ Stopping crimes on sites like DISCORD is a WHOLE other degree of difficulty. The FBI can NOT be monitoring every dark site like DISCORD. And most of the time it is just harmless juveniles that are not planning any crime. Maybe just bragging about having some guns and some mild anti-social attitudes.
