pturner:

I use the yellowpages via the internet.

I use the phone book only if that fails to yield the information I need.

Since I use my cellphone almost exclusively, I use 411 and then have a text sent to my phone with the address and number. This is mostly for restaurants to check on the entertainment for that night. It has worked out extremely well. Not sure of the additional costs, or if there are any.

Only use the yellow pages in TV when I'm looking for a groomer, vet or other service.

phone books take up way too much space

and are such a waste nowadays. In the fall of the year, we'll hear a thump on the front porch and it's yet another phone book or books being "delivered". We generally look up a phone number or business via internet.

I do use both depending on what I'm looking for.

If I know exactly what I'm looking for (e.g. the phone number of the local Red Lobster) I'll probably use the Internet.

On the other hand if I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for (e.g. I don't remember the exact name of the seafood restaurant I want or just want see what seafood restaurants are near me) then I will use the yellow pages in the phone book.

I don't use the white pages at all since most of the people I want to call have unlisted numbers, cell phones or internet phones so I find i either need to get there phone number directly from them or from a mutual friend.

I use the internet exclusively. Actually, on the internet I've found local numbers for companies, physicians, etc, when the phone book showed 800 numbers.

For restaurants, I look online and find the phone number as well as menus for where I want to eat. By the time I get seated at the dining arena, I'm starved and don't need to spend too much time with the menu....just listen to what the specials are and then order... ;)

Both - depends on what I'm looking for as well as where I am. Actually, to throw another wrinkle into this thread: I sometimes use my GPS to find a number when I'm out on the road. TomTom includes phone numbers for Points Of Interest that are loaded in with their map software.

I don't generally use online directories. I just type in the name of the business. The directories are sometimes difficult to use.

I think all of this is a function of what's easier to get to...my computer is always on, the phone book is???who the heck knows where...:a20:
