We had a similiar law in PA and a similar result.....no enforcement. Government is great at passing common sense laws with no teeth. Seat belts, texting, left lane, turnsignals, illegal lane changes....the number of stops made is equal to doing that ocean thing. Not enough cops, not enough court time, too many lawyers and entitled with money. I read once that the reason people drive the left lane is they can see better on that side and don't have great judgement when aligning with the right lane. Whatever the reason, the left lane riders will continue. Oh yeah, often see the cops doing the same thing :)

What bothers me is when I am in the left lane doing 80mph in a 70 mph zone and some bozo is behind me flashing his lights and honking his horn!

That simply means that you are the 'slower' traffic...and by law need to get over in the right lane.

All that means is that you've appointed yourself to set the left lane speed at 80, no different than the guy who appointed himself to set it at 55. It's basically the same thing at different speeds, and BOTH are required to get to the right. (Sorry). At least you'll have the satisfaction of passing the 80+ driver back when he is pulled over by LEO:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

That bozo MAY be breaking the law. You DEFINITELY are.

If that bozo is coming up from behind and pacing a car going 80, he DEFINITELY is as well

Besides, who would you REALLY be more afraid of in the left lane of an interstate:

a) a professional NASCAR driver going 110, or

b) a little old lady who can't see over the steering wheel going 50?????

Topspinmo 10-29-2016 12:26 PM

not this BS topic again, NOBODY going to keep right on any highway if Florida. Just too much traffic, especially on Blvds, and parkways, and non interstate/toll roads. Whine all you want and spout ITS THE LAW! still not going to happen. SO as it been said many times WHATS YOUR HURRY YOUR RETIRED and it will help your blood pressure not to get all worked up about Nothing that's going to change. Besides LEO never catch but .2% the hiatal speeder's anyway, you know the ones that want to go 20 MPH over the speed limit and you say under your breath "where COP when you NEED one":ohdear:

As with most other states, the law in Florida is to drive in the right lane (on a 2-lane or more road), unless you are passing.

Can someone please tell me what it is with so many drivers here that insist on driving the left (passing) lane?
Other than it is against the law, that is so wrong for so many reasons.

I grant you that in a highly commercial area, such as on 441 say, it is difficult to do because of all the turning into a shopping area.
But in other areas if you flash your lights or honk your horn, these people in the left lane actually get annoyed!

Perhaps if the police started giving tickets to those who think they own the road, they will drive the right (and correct!) lane.

From bbbbbb responding.
Having been here a year, we almost never drive the car, it is golf cart or bicycle. Well, a golf cart community? The problems that are mentioned here are quite common, they will probably continue to be a nuisance, and if you look around, you may find what is probably the root cause of traffic frustrations and near accidents and the items mentioned here. It is solvable but we will probably not solve it with the common operating standards that we love so dearly.
Enough of that.

Just leaving open the possibility of an emergency.

Whine all you want...but traffic-filled roads is not the situation being discussed.

patfla06 10-29-2016 06:20 PM

I have to disagree with you.

Local roads whether they are 2 or 3 lanes, handle all of the traffic on the road.
The ONLY time you use the left lane for passing
is on a highway I-75, I-95, and the Florida Tpk.
Can you imagine everyone driving in the right lane
around The Villages?

By the way, what is your hurry?

That would crash the servers if the Police here write e tickets. If they still use the old fashioned ticket books (25 tickets to a books) they would need a case of books a day.

I cant seem to find the actual law. my questions are, does the law state 'passing lane', fast lane, or left lane. What if an HOV lane is adjacent? Bill

Same can be said for those turning west headed toward Pinellas Plaza, I've got a left turn coming up, I better get over now, nevermind I'm only doing 40, that's a good safe speed for me. The drivers behind me should realize, I'm saving their lives going this slow.
