I'll even consider older series, but ideally it would be something a bit newer than a couple of my favorite shows which I mention below, maybe something from 2010 or later. And having a number of seasons "in the can" would be very nice too...

I like detective shows and such, but I am open to any type of series if it's interesting enough. To give you a clue to my tastes, in the past I've liked Monk, The Mentalist, some NCIS (the original is all I've seen), sitcoms and various other types of shows. I rarely get hooked on pure drama. Monk and The Mentalist which I mentioned above had something in common...very good detective plots with really fun main characters and a humorous slant in every episode.

Okay, I'm open to suggestions. Again, I will consider any show if it's good.

I didn’t end all posts so this may have been recommended. Grantchester on PBS. Love it.

I also love Grantchester and the 2 shows that follow it Baptiste ( you’ll have to start the season or you won’t be able to follow ) and Vienna Blood ( CSI and profiling at the turn of the century)

Today on AARP’s site, aarp.org, There is an article “What to Watch on TV and Streaming This Week.”

The writer gives short summaries of the shows.

Dexter is back. (We watched Dexter recently. I had never watched a show about a serial killer before — and certainly never thought I would actually root for one — until Dexter. (I had to close my eyes during some of the scenes though.)

I already knew that Dexter is back, but I did not know that John Lithgow, the Trinity Killer, will be showing up again. Lithgow is one of my favorite actors. He can play such varied roles as Winston Churchill in The Crown to the hilariously confused alien, Dick Solomon, in the old sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun — and now again on Dexter — a psychopath — so calm and smooth to people he meets — who would never suspect him.

3rd Rock from the Sun is my favorite sitcom of all time. I still watch an episode or two once in a while, even though I have seen them all. I love the premise and the humor as all of the aliens try to figure us out. The Thanksgiving episode is a classic.

Boomer (who has been watching way too much television in the evenings since the pandemic showed up. Now, our lives are somewhat back to normal, but the television habit seems like it’s here to stay.)

Somewhere in one of these long threads about what to watch, someone mentioned Corner Gas. I can’t find that person’s post again, but I want to say thank you. I would never have found this show on my own.

We just finished Season 1 and, so far, I think Corner Gas is one of the most cleverly written sitcoms, with some of the best characters, I have ever seen. It’s kind of like Northern Exposure meets Seinfeld — only, maybe better.

The episode where Constable Karen goes fishing with Hank is one of the funniest (for me) so far.

One of my all time favorite shows. The entire series stays funny right through the end. The character acting in this series is outstanding. Brent Leroy Butt also wrote and starred in the movie "No Clue". Very similar to Corner Gas humor. Free on IMBd TV. Brent also wrote a Canadian TV series "Hiccups" but I have not been able to find it for streaming yet.

We have just started Season 2. I am happy to know it stays funny all the way through its seasons.

The plots, the lines, and the characters definitely fit my kind of humor.

The icing on the cake is the fact that the Canadian production does not assault us with a laugh track — like so many of my old favorite American sitcoms do on Hulu.

Thank you, Corner Gas, for not assaulting — and insulting — your audience with one of those stupid, loud, obnoxious laugh tracks.

Acapulco on Apple TV

Acapulco has kind of the same feel as Ted Lasso . It is a charming story with some endearing characters. Maybe not quite as good as Ted Lasso but fun to watch.

Sometimes the characters speak Spanish -- but mostly they speak English. I did not consider it distracting to need to turn on the captions. The story moves along just fine -- in both languages.

If you are looking for a light and happy show, Acapulco might be it.

If you are looking for a not light or happy show, Yellowstone will work for that. It has been mentioned here several times, so I decided to track it down. Found it last night and got started on Season 1. We are hooked. This ruthless bunch keeps making me think of the Sopranos.

If you are looking for a classic British comedy check out "Green Wing" on YouTube free. Unique characters, strange comedic situations. If you like Monty and Fawlty, this is a must see.
