Our son is getting married Nov. 4 in Middletown, Connecticut. We were leaving yesterday and going to the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina where we used to live, see some friends and also see our cabins we built, then on to Connecticut. NC is expecting 11 inches of snow tonight so not going there. We are now leaving Wednesday or Thursday and going straight to Connecticut. I feel so bad for my future daughter-in-law, too much stress, and so much planning for a year to have a wonderful wedding. I pray everything will work out.

Wish we had retired already and joined you fine folks in TV. Gov. Cristie has mandated that all non-essential personnel be off the roads. Already have had tons of rain and the wind is very intense. So far we haven't lost electricity. We're on the border of Atlantic and Camden Counties.

knew atlantic county had travel ban - but not heard that the state does. where'd ya get that info? haven't seen/heard any announcement not read one on the net so far today! hope you're hi and dri and safe thru the day/nite!

decodiana 10-29-2012 10:12 AM

Got a phone call at 8 AM by our local emergency management office that stated the governor had mandated all non-essential personnel are to be off the roads.

mulligan 10-29-2012 10:46 AM

Just heard on the weather channel that Atlantic city is under water

oh! that sounds like a miscommunication! lol real good info is available here 511nj.org :: Home and here NJTA Mobile

the gov's office screwed up on another announcement today! trying to correct same using lots of media outlets! "***GARDEN STATE PARKWAY: UPDATE*** A source at the New Jersey Turnpike Authority tells us: "We handle both the Turnpike and the Parkway. Please let people know that the Garden State Parkway is closed southbound ONLY at Exit 38. Northbound is open to traffic. For the time being anyway. The Governor's Office's tweet was WRONG and that issue is being addressed." lol

right now there is no state-wide travel ban - just some travel bans that have been implemented for local towns and counties. as i posted before, atlantic county is one that implemented a travel ban as of midnite last nite. maybe the gov will a change the situation in his noon press conference!

may we all fare well thru the duration!

I can appreciate your pain in waiting. We will be over a year from the time we visited and plunked down money on a lot to the time my husband retires. (We will be frogs). In any event, we now live in Montgomery County-waiting for the worst of the hurricane to hit! Nice to meet you.

The sea buoy's off long Island are reporting wave heights of 30-50 feet, those waves are going to hit the Fire Island barrier island, capable of breaching the island, they expect houses could wash away, may get a new inlet.

Wind now gusting into low 50's, they say it's really going to get interesting after 6PM.

The water at my sons bulkhead only has 30" to go until it washes over, they expect it to get 5-6 feet higher. Going to be close to his first floor level.

If it washes the bulk head out --- no insurance.

20,000 without power and it really hasn't started to get bad.

Please stay safe, all you "northerners". We know you well enough to know that the only reason you would fall silent is the loss of power! Do stay in touch. We care.

Jimbo, I'm so sorry to hear the potential for loss your son is facing, with the worst of the storm yet to come. We will pray for your family.

My bulkheading survived storms where the waves were crashing over it, throwing debris (picnic tables, bikes) onto it, and mine was old. It will probably be okay, this is what it was designed to do.

If your from Long Island and want up to date Photos go to News12 Long Island web site they have over 600 photos. The Island is getting hammered as well as Atlantic City where the roads are being washed out already.

Gov Cuomo announced that the major bridges in the NYC metro area will be closing at 7:00pm/ including GW, Throgs Neck, Whitestone, Verrazano, etc.
The Holland and Brooklyn-Battery Tunnels closed at 2:00pm. No word on the Lincoln Tunnel. It will soon be virtually impossible to get out of Manhattan; no subways, no buses, no trains, bridges and tunnels closed.

Just checking in - so far other than no power at home, the other locations are good so far, I log into their close circuit TV system, if it's off we drive out and start the generators.

Going to have dinner in our RV, the house is getting cold need to get the fireplace going.

This sucks, but others are in greater danger in S NJ.

Worst Storm Ever in the Northeast

You know this storm is a biggie when the stock market is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

It's worst than the storm of 38 and stronger.

My thoughts and prayers to all those that are affected by this storm.

Stay safe and out of harms way

Moderator 10-29-2012 04:45 PM

Going to delete the fake Statue of Liberty storm picture and all posts that reference it. There's no reason to get people alarmed when there is and will be plenty of actual tragic news to come.

we have a heavily treed piece of property so we parked our RV and cars across the street in an open field.

Had to walk about 300', boy is it windy, got into the RV to have dinner it was rocken & rollin too much to relax, so we took all the hot food back to the house.

It is gusting 60+ without a doubt.

Just got word two of our building went dark trying to get the geny's going.

Not much sleep tonight.

Oh one tree snapped in half about 20' up, dark now so can't see anything else.

Oh fun.......:cus:

Where is njbchbum? I'm worried about her. She hasn't been heard from since early this morning. If you can, let us know what's happening.

Patty55 10-29-2012 06:35 PM

A lot of people have cable/voip service and when the power is out they have no service.

I HATE THAT.

janmcn 10-29-2012 07:56 PM

Massive flooding in lower manhattan, fires in subways, all residents ordered inside. Con-Ed has turned off power in that area. The 911 system is over-loaded. LaGuardia Airport closed due to flooded runways. The Hugh Carey tunnel has been closed due to flooding. People trapped in cars floating down streets in lower manhattan.

Mack184 10-29-2012 08:17 PM

In Baltimore at 2116 Temp is 47, winds between 25-40mph. Miracle of miracles we still have power, although many around us are now out.

hotrodgirl 10-29-2012 10:03 PM

I am getting quite worried about many of our TV posters. Hope all are safe and well. Jimbo, I know you lost power, just wanted you to know we are thinking about you and hoping all is well. Also Rona, Bill, NJBchbum and all else who are impacted. You are all in our prayers:pray: be safe, my friends.

Our son in Staten Island has not had power all night
Grandchildren in Pocono's are out too..........

Prayers that all are well!

For anyone who doubts the impact of this storm... I live in the north suburbs of Chicago, along Lake Michigan. Tonight we are expecting winds of 50-60 mph, a direct result of Sandy. Navy Pier will be closed tomorrow, and all trails along the lakefront. There is a chance they will close Lake Shore Drive/Sheridan Road if the waves come over the breakwater and pound the pavement... I can only imagine with much trepidation what others are going through right now. Hope all are safe!
