Sleepless in NY, we are all almost ok, my sons house on the water is now level with the water part of his bulkhead may be gone, has waves on his lawn.

His floor is vibrating with the wave action, it's too late for him and his kids to leave, but the wind is abating, and the tide should go down, he has a geny going.
Also can if really needed go to his neighbor, but walking in the dark with power lines down is more risk than sitting tight. He refused to leave when he should have :cus:

My other two sons one lost power the other has power.

The biz are running on geny's all ok there.

Very little rain just high water in low areas this afternoon wind was 45 gusting to to 67. Now about 30-40.

Can't wait till morning, batteries running low, thanks for your prayers and concern, we'l get thru it.

Heard from 2BNTV too. He is O.K. Wonder about NJBchbum. Hang tight all and hurry home to us.

jblum315 10-30-2012 03:07 AM

Family in Brooklyn no landline, cable or internet, but cell phones are okay. Lights flickering. Wind pretty intense. No public transportation so everyone is home for the duration.

BarryRX 10-30-2012 06:13 AM

Family in New Hyde Park has no power. Family in East Northport also no power and fallen tree damage to house and two cars. Hang in there gang! Thoughts and prayers are with you guys!

aabuono 10-30-2012 06:39 AM

Haven't heard from my family in CT this morning - Sal's there and our 2 sons. Last night about 9PM everyone was fine but in the dark. !! Please send your thoughts and prayers there way - and to all in the Northeast...

NEPA (Wilkes-Barre, Bear Creek Area) was lucky. My kids report power out, some trees down, minor damage to their homes from the wind. Son's neighbor has a tree ready to fall on house - guys are out trying to pull it away from the house. That is all I know so far.

hotrodgirl 10-30-2012 08:17 AM

Prayers

Many, many prayers coming your way:pray:from those of us who are so concerned about all of our TOTV friends along the eastern seaboard. Jimbo, Patty55, NJBchbum, 2b, Rona & Bill, and all those I have inadvertently left out. We pray for your safety and wish you well through the devastation. Hope you are all safe and warm and do not have too much damage. Post back to us when you are able and know we are thinking of all of you. Be safe.

Taltarzac725 10-30-2012 08:19 AM

Saw some pictures on my Facebook of a shark swimming near a home in New Jersey. Quite a sight. A poster mentioned that it was a nurse shark which is harmless to humans. http://www.inquisitr.com/380406/shar...ds-new-jersey/

Pat_RI 10-30-2012 08:23 AM

110,000 without power in RI. Newport, Narragansett, and down route 1 to Westerly got hit bad. Coast Guard House in Narr got damaged. Narragansett sea wall got taken out in some spots. Ocean Blvd in Newport closed for several days to cleanup damage.

2BNTV 10-30-2012 08:40 AM

Everything is ok with me. No power loss and no damage.

Massive damage in the tri state area as subways are under water and water is rushing into a tunnel, (don't know which one). Boats separated from their mooring and fires in some areas. Atlantic City is under water.

Sandy was a doozie.

Thoughts and prayers for everyone's safety.

Greenwich CT. Power line went down and caught fire with a house. It spread to 4 other houses and they couldn't get to them because the streets were blocked with downed houses. They burned to the ground but everyone got out.

olgreeneyes 10-30-2012 08:56 AM

hello from NJ

Made it through the storm, but more winds and rain are predicted for the next 24 hours. Walking through our neighborhood this morning, some trees are down but actually not as much damage as the storms this past July. Not as much rain inland (Freehold). Power has been out since 8pm last night, but most people learned from the past and have generators. Quite a few shore towns were evacuated and they had massive flooding all along the coast. Seems like the winds caused every leaf from every tree to fall and all in our front yard. But that is nothing compared to what happened to many people.
Counting our blessings and counting the days until we can be in TV for good!

Patty55 10-30-2012 09:14 AM

It was terrible watching this on the news and not being able to reach people. Everyone I know seems okay, some property damage, trees down, trees through roof type of thing.

A friend's husband is FD, says lots of fires in the Mastic area, Davis Park lost something like 7 homes.

Spoke with Manorville and Smithtown-they're all good. No Power, but okay.

aabuono 10-30-2012 10:36 AM

Just heard from all my "boys" in CT - All are fine, but no power and no idea when it will be restored. Hope the rest of our friends are well...

Anne

Seven subway tunnels under the East River are flooded, as is the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. Also, saw photo of the Path station in Hoboken, totally flooded.

Patty55 10-30-2012 11:56 AM

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT-Just an observation.

I just love that Chris Christie.

The other one-NOT SO MUCH.

shalomuall 10-30-2012 11:57 AM

We are very lucky. Did not loose power and no damage. My family in NJ and Brooklyn NY are all ok too with power on now and no damage. My flight to TV is canceled so will have to reschedule my trip.
Thinking and praying for everyone

In the general terms it would be safe to say that somehow the storm missed us. How we're not sure. Other than dealing with a generally crummy day yesterday, our power & cable stayed on, and we had no ill effects. However many around us in Baltimore county have no power..Last update was about 47,000 customers out. Of course down on the Eastern Shore they got badly kicked in the teeth, and many spots heading up the bay had serious troubles. Not quite sure what spared us, but we are certainly thankful for it.

All of the various schools, government offices, and many businesses are closed today. Most Baltimore hospitals dropped their "alert" status at 8am this morning and miracle of miracles our mailman showed up at his usual time, even though it was reported yesterday that there would be no mail service until at least Wednesday.

Unfortunately so many, many people in NJ & NY are in dire straits. My brother lives in Boston, and they were having a much tougher go than we were.

jimmemac 10-30-2012 04:22 PM

At the head of the chesapeake bay we have made it=power just came back on and no damage to the house. We walked the neighborhood and saw many homes that are either flooded or have siding torn off-at least no trees in homes or anything like that.

jimbo2012 10-30-2012 05:37 PM

What a day, been on the go since early this morning, just got home, totally burnt out!!!

Getting two buildings powered up with generators and hunting Diesel for one and gas for the other. We have perishable stuff that needs elec.

My house is ok except no power along with 85% of Long Island in the dark for 7-10 plus days.

Two of my other sons homes are ok, one has power.

Can't say the same for my other sons home on the bay, his bulkhead washed out behind he lost truck loads of sand, he had a pool in the backyard, gone washed away.

He sent us cell movies, it is unbelievable, they had a terrible night for them each wave vibrated the house so much they felt severe vibrations under their feet, the waves were washing across his lawn.

A lot of the damage is un-insurable, his foundation may be compromised from water. He was so burned out when the bridges opened up off LI he went to Foxwoods casino to unwind and sleep in a dry bed. Only to get a flat on the way there.

I'm going to sleep a bit and get back early in the morning.

The rest of LI is like a war zone as is NJ.

............:mornincoffee:

Stay safe Jimbo. You & your family are in my prayers & thoughts.

hotrodgirl 10-30-2012 05:48 PM

Glad you are safe, Jimbo and Rona! Stay well and our thoughts are certainly with you.

lovsthosebigdogs 10-30-2012 06:09 PM

Glad to hear so many are ok. Still waiting to hear from my sister, cousins, 91 year old aunt and dear friends in NJ. I am sure they are out of power and that's why I haven't heard from them. I heard from my sister early last night but not since. I am assuming her cell phone is out of power but I will feel better when she calls me. Being a former Jersey Shore girl means so many of my friends are still there but they are yet unaccounted for. Keep them in your prayers please, as well as others.

Bill-n-Brillo 10-30-2012 06:55 PM

Hang in there, jimbo!

Bill :)

Patty55 10-30-2012 07:22 PM

Here's a bit of upbeat news, Power is back in Manorville.

Thank you for your good wishes and prayers. Not sure if this will ease your mind at all but there are widespread power outages all over. Cell phone is spotty to non-existent at best. It comes in & out. Not knowing is the hardest part. Hope you will hear from them very soon!

janmcn 10-30-2012 07:46 PM

Finally heard that my niece, her two precious boys, and husband, who live in the lower east side of NYC are okay and have gone to the upper east side to stay at a friend's brownstone. There's no way they could stay in their co-op with two boys, ages six and nine, and no power or heat for a week or more.

She said the power went off about 9:00pm last night, but it really didn't get that cold with no heat. Also, their car was fine. However the spot they usually park in had a big tree on it. She said they saw lots of damage driving up town.

I'm so relieved to hear that they're all okay. My sister in central PA said they had no damage at all, just windy during the night and showers.

Where is njbchbum? I am so worried about her.

ugotme 10-30-2012 08:28 PM

Always a relief.
heard from my son who is in Massapequa Park, NY (LI). No power and as he said "a real mess." he had to drive a while to get service on his cell, but basically all is well. Just waiting for the power to come back! :BigApplause:

aabuono 10-31-2012 07:10 AM

Jimbo - Glad that you are all safe - my guys are fine in CT, but it will be a long time before they get power. Stay safe everyone ...

Anne

ssmith 10-31-2012 07:47 AM

me too...

Still waiting to hear how my Nephew and wife and baby are in Chinatown on Manhattan.
They did not evacuate and they are young. Sure hope they have water and food. They do not have cell service.
Like the rest of you glad to hear Jimbo and others are doing ok.

jimbo2012 11-01-2012 08:22 AM

yesterday was a good day, we had our home power back on yesterday at 3PM, moved out of our RV back into the house. (it was cold last night so it was nice to get back inside)

What you folks don't see is our local TV news station, there R areas on Long Island that are really bad,
our family real was lucky, my son on his bayfront home took a really costly uninsured hit, but he lined up trucks to backfill his washed out bulkhead starting today, lined up a bulkhead repair company to start in few days.

Two of my sons homes are running on generators so they will be fine.

Two of our three business are back up and running on the main grid last nite, we are so surprised the power was flipped on in those locations.
Last nite we shifted the big generator to the third business and now is off the little generators now on a big generator, big enough to run a whole village, maybe it can run Brownwood.

http://www.northerntool.com/images/p...s/25643_lg.jpg

It holds 80 gallons of fuel, enough for two days.
Our perishable inventory was all saved.

Cell phones are still spotty, AT&T in bad shape Verizon much better, towers may be down.

All the restaurants are backed up with long lines, many can't cook at home.
Gas stations are open, some have long lines others do not, strange.

Again thanks for your prayers and well wishes.

We can now start to think again about our new home and friends at TV.

Glad to hear that your losses weren't extensive, I can see you prepared well for such a time.

I do wonder about njbchbum.

BKCunningham? Have you heard from her?

2BNTV 11-01-2012 10:01 AM

Glad to hear jimbo made out ok. njbeachbum is probably without power, I would think.

NJ was really hit hard as 2 million wthout power and now it's starting to get really cold at night.

Hubby made it to our house yesterday. Entire first floor was destroyed by storm surge in addition to garage. Power is still out and cell signal is still spotty. As Jimbo mentioned Verizon seems to be better than AT&T. Many areas around us are decimated. There are a couple of new inlets where the ocean now meets the bay where the water broke thru the barrier island. It is heartbreaking. We have suffered a great loss, but others have suffered so much more that it is incomprehensible to me. We are thankful to be safe and for all our other blessings.

At this point, we are still planning to fly down to TV on 11/15 for our design appt. At least we have something to look forward to.

I was in touch with njbeachbum right before the storm. She was located north of me and about a mile inland. Power outages, cable outages, etc. are more than likely the reason for her absence from ToTV.

Glad you guys are ok. I was heartbroken to see pictures of the damage. Its been a few years since I've been back to visit my neighborhood in Toms River and Seaside but some of my friends are still there and have suffered great loses. Sending hugs and prayers to everyone out there.

hotrodgirl 11-01-2012 06:08 PM

It seems out TV friends are safe, wish we would hear from NJbchbum, but I am hoping for the very best. Rona, again I am so sorry you lost anything at all, but the whole of your first floor... Devastating. But you and your family are safe and warm and have each other. plus something to look forward to in your new home. Jimbp, glad you were prepared and didn't suffer too much damage! Sorry for your son though. Was his home OK at least?

jimbo2012 11-01-2012 06:16 PM

Not sure about his house because waves may have gone underneath, but it looks ok, he can get Fema assistance upto $31 K for his uninsured portion.

But the bad news is a big nor easter is forecast to hit us in 6 days with temps in the low 30's

We're also from PA; we just got our power restored after four days. I'm grateful cause we were the lucky ones. We found a place for our food and didn't have to discard much. It was cold in our house, but we managed with lots of blankets. What I missed the most was my connection to TV, this bulletin board. Glad to be back.
