Last week a friend, who is also a FB friend, messaged me to send my phone number. She said she couldn't get on FB and would it be okay if they sent me a code. I sent a photo of my dog and asked her what the name of this dog is. The hacker didn't know. I called my friend and she has been hacked and is going through hell trying to get her account back. I feel for you, you have a long road ahead.

Yet. That’s probably what saved you. I go on FB mainly to watch videos, so I take precautions. Not big deal just have enter password to get back on, don’t affect messages or friends contacting there waiting for you at top.

Yep, once you’re out there in cyberspace it stays out there.

Good advice and so sorry about your recent hack! A few years ago someone hijacked my eBay account and placed a bid from me on a $30,000 vehicle. Luckily, someone outbid me and I was notified. According to eBay having an open account is an easy way to hack your account, so always log out to make ANY account one layer safer. Hopefully, the advice mentioned elsewhere will work to reactivate your account.

I’m the OP. So frustrating. First time an acct of mine had been hacked. Again, I cannot access the FB acct as the owner to disable etc.

So I did go to FB support. I’m surprised they actually responded, but who knows how long to correction. All I want is to delete/deactivate the acct and start anew.

I know that I’m not the first one to be “violated” online. It sucks.

That has nothing to do with it. The FB user security was not set up correctly, password too weak and eaily figurable, and the simple fact that the OP can't seem to regain control of their account pretty much says they are not a strong user (translates to hackable)

Unfortunately without hands on help, (the OP statements require vetting to ensure accuracy of limitations) the only choice is to (good luck) reach FB via voice and get the account removed or returned.

Just to be clear, the Facebook account for TVFLGuy wasn't "hacked", it was "spoofed".

Hackers create a duplicate FB account under your name in an effort to collect email addresses from your contacts by sending out friend requests.

One thing not yet mentioned here is that you should email (or call) anyone you can think is one of your FB friends. Tell them NOT to reply for a new "friend request".

And yes, only FB support can kill the spoofed account and re-establish yours. Once reset, change your profile picture so your real friends know it's you!

Thanks - you are correct. First my FB password was very unique with numbers, letters, special characters. No way - easy to guess. Second I have no idea exactly how they "got in" etc etc. I'm always very careful. Must say there have been sevearl people who have tried to "friend" me on FB. Apparently they attempted this after I had made comments on several sites. I have always declined. But somehow this is no doubt how they did it.

Once I saw that my acct had been taken over, I had my sig other add a post to my page - with a warning that it seems to have had be taken over. But before I knew, one of my "friends" made a comment on my FB page about a Mt. Fuji photo that they attached. Then, at some time after he received a Friend request from an unknown - which he declined. So now my spoofed account has that warning post - it seems to have worked.

Message is - beware. Even being a careful online user can get taken.... Tread carefully, and even then.... grrrr.

And how is that when for have PW to get FB on line. Please explain. I only be hacked while logging I clicking on something and then responding. I’ve never been hack of line or my computer shut off.

IMO you had to been online and respond/ clicking to or on spoofer page giving them foot in door. Other wise it would be common occurrence.

FB only cares about selling your personal information to highest offer. How do you think become billionaires by running free web site. Make money on advertising and selling personal information.

If you are logged into Facebook, you page is active. Any attempt to change your password, will result in a dialogue box from Facebook for confirmation.

If you are NOT logged into Facebook, someone could hack your account while you're sleeping ... they will be the person getting the dialogue box.

As for the poster that said the original poster wasn't "hacked", but was "spoofed", that is incorrect. Unless I read the OP's post wrong, he couldn't access his own FB account ... that's being hacked, not spoofed.

Spoofing is when someone creates a seemingly duplicate profile and account. They don't need your password for that.

I have an INACTIVE Facebook account. I haven't posted in over five years. I would really like to get rid of the account completely, but nobody I have spoken with knows how to wipe it off my computer. Maybe I should call Hillery Clinton. Any advice?
