We live in a very selfish society; sadly. Wear a mask; for the greater good. Let’s stop this. We do not know sufficient information about this virus therefore for everyone to be safe wear a mask or stay home.

Although I wear a face mask (when required), many medical "experts" contend that by wearing masks you may be delaying others from developing memory antibodies for long-lasting protection against viral infection.

Antibodies, not vaccinations, will allow our society to more quickly return to normal.

I feel like I'm suffocating when I wear a legit blue mask, so I made some from cotton fabric. Hopefully people get a giggle out of them.https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...1&d=1594985899

unlikely that it can be contracted twice.
And I know you will say that you know or heard of someone getting it twice. The
doctors’ reply to that was it is generally considered that the second positive test was a ‘reactivation’ of the previous illness and NOT a ‘resurgence’. In all cases the virus was rediscovered less than 30 days after it was believed to have left the system....ie: a false negative.
So what is my point about all this.
If a person who has had the virus and beat it (and there are thousands of such people) be expected to wear a mask even though they cannot transmit nor contract it again. Should they wear it just to make you feel better?

I have seen this report on the news several times on several different networks.
Scientists retested Covid survivors at three month and six month intervals. Many survivors had no antibodies in their system after 3 months, and are vulnerable again. That is the data for THIS virus at this point in time.
COvid is. Novel virus that has morphed and changed several . times.
All we can do is go on today’s knowledge, realizing that facts may change tomorrow.

Why is that not enough to encourage their universal use?

I think that the problem with this post is that it's "the latest discussion". It seems that the latest information changes daily or at least weekly.

And just because it's a discussion on the news doesn't mean that it's accurate.

I believe that because of this along with the inaccurate reporting of data that some people believe that the virus is not as big of a problem as some are making it out to be.

Personally, I wear a mask whenever I enter a public building. I think that the virus is serious and I understand that the experts are dealing with something that they've never dealt with before so there is a steep learning curve. But for many people, the changing information and falsification of numbers is enough to make them believe that it's all a big hoax.

I agree with a previous response, lots of different reasons. I know some who consider the hype to be political and they consider mask wearers to be mindlessly following the crowd. Others simply don’t believe it’s real or a serious situation. Some say it’s media hype. Others don’t believe mask help. And I’m sure there are many other reasons. Thanks for asking rather than criticizing like many do. Sometimes it seems the nastiness this virus has brought out in many is worse than the virus itself.

MASK: To wear or not to wear?

I wear a mask purely as a courtesy to those that serve us and are mandated to wear a mask when working. Does the mask protects me? Not really. If someone sneezes or coughs near me, the micro spray generated would most likely reach my eyes, which are great recipients for any forms of microbes or virus traveling through the air. So a mask would not protect me. The debate of the masks has been used as a political tool by our politicians and media. Until the elections, we are doomed with such debate of mask pros and cons.

So if someone doesn’t wear a mask when entering a public building or any establishments, they are not courteous to those that serves them.

It's a silent protest against the people who bring their dogs in to stores.

Also, you're told not to touch your face. I see people constantly picking up items on shelves that have been touched by others and then adjusting the mask as their glasses are fogging up or they are having difficulty breathing. Unless you have an N95 mask, these other disposable and designer cloth masks are pretty much useless. Plus, there are differing medical opinions about the masks. Fauci is a joke, changing his advice everytime the wind blows. Such a glory hound.

The people I talk to that don’t wear masks are not selfish in character nor is their decision not to wear one selfish. It’s really not appropriate to make a general statement like that about non mask wearers.

I seriously doubt it’s about vanity. I’ve never heard anyone worried about how they look in a mask or comment on how others look. A mask doesn’t change your face, just hides it more.

You’re so right and I believe the major reason we are under water with Covid. From the beginning we have had mixed messages. People choose to believe what suited them.

So I don’t wear a mask because I don’t believe it protects others and it hurts the one who wears it. And thank you so much for the way you posted this 😊

what would be helpful when someone cites research is to provide a the link that supports what they are saying. here is a link from the American Lung Assoc. that rebuts what you say. From the Frontlines: The Truth About Masks and COVID-19 | American Lung Association

You misunderstand about asymptomatic not spreading the virus. All it takes is droplets. If the droplets are ‘infected’ but you’re not showing symptoms (Asymptomatic ), you’ll share the disease. But you don’t KNOW you have the virus. I prefer to take every cautionary suggestion to not infect YOU. Please do the same for me. Thx.
