Did he have a State Refund coming? He can check the status of his federal refund at IRS.gov and can do so at the state’s website too. It is possible that the IRS modified his refund after their review.

Also, the previous reply regarding the “stimulus” checks is correct, it is a non-taxable event.

The amount is $1200 75k and under. 99k and under it is prorated......... for single people

If you are on Social Security and/or make less than $75 K, you will get $1200 whether you need it or not. It's difficult for even the Federal Government to spend $2.2 trillion.

Eat out 12 times and leave your servers a $100 tip, that should work.

I dont know about the tax part- but fingers crossed its tax free
But I did understand if you make more than 75,000 but less than 99,000 your check amount would be 5$ less for each $100 over the 75,000 mark. So if you made $78,000 your check amount would be $1050.

You can uncross your fingers because the check is tax free. It is treated like a tax credit. In fact, even people who are delinquent and owe back taxes will still get the full or prorated amount based on income. The only people who may not get a check are those who are behind in child support payments and have been reported to the Federal Government.

I apologize for being overly suspicious, but that does not sound kosher. Why would the postal service call to verify anything before delivering mail in your name to your address? Is your phone number publicly listed, and if not, how did they get it?

under55 04-09-2020 04:30 PM

He seemed nice enough. He even gave me the phone number for his cousin a Nigerian Prince who is need of some cash right now. Wire him $1000 and you will be back $10,000 at the end of the month.

CAN YOU SPELL SCAM? I have not heard anything about direct deposit for stimulus checks OR that the post office will hold until you verify information. Be very careful, if it sounds fishy it probably isn't right.

Pretty sure under55 was making a joke.

Ah, of course! I'll blame low vision and not being able to make out the smilies.

skip0358 04-09-2020 05:55 PM

There are quite a few scams out there. Got a call today on my cell phone asking me to verify my account numbers because they were having trouble depositing my stimulus check. Friend got one yesterday so be careful.
