Extreme!!! Life is too darn short.. completely disagree. Things may never be back to norm. Enjoy yourself and self in hibernation.

Rodneysblue 03-21-2021 07:44 AM

So is that 5% of the 20%?

Annarachel 03-21-2021 07:44 AM

My opinion for myself I will not allow the CDC to control my life. Life is very short if you want to stay at home do it.I will not live my life in fear. unfortunately we all die at some point so why not live your best life. God bless

[QUOTE=LiverpoolWalrus;1918636]In talking to folks, they don’t seem to realize that the 95% efficacy rate of Covid vaccines means that the vaccine will not offer complete protection 5% of the time. If the vaccine fails in 5% of people who receive the vaccine and are later infected, that 5% still has a risk of mild symptoms.*

Flu vaccines can fail if vaccine manufacturers guess wrong on the flu variant for a particular season. Most of the general population do not vaccinate for flu. Thousands die yearly of flu. Yes, we realize the risk but choose to live anyway. I respect your choice. Please respect mine.

You stay home, that's your choice and I understand, but we are fully vaccinated and plan to try living life a little more normal after staying home over a year. We will still wear masks, distance and sanitize, but I'm done with hibernating like a scared rat. We went out for dinner the other night for the first time in 13 months and it was so nice to be "alive" again.
We won't go to squares or anywhere people are so inconsiderate but we aren't going to worry about a 5% chance. That's much less of a chance of getting colds or the flu or any other airborne virus.

lpkruege1 03-21-2021 08:28 AM

Good for you. If it makes you happy to stay at home, do it. But are you happy? Is this really how you want to spend the rest of your life? Why do feel others need to do the same as you? I've been told I'm being selfish. Demanding I stay so others feel good is just as selfish. This is still America and we do have free choice. I hope you stay safe and you're happy with your decision. God knows where we are, and come to claim us at any time he chooses. I hope I'm out enjoying life when he does.

So even if we assume that everyone is vaccinated, 5 out of every 100 people are still going to be susceptible to Covid. The good news for everyone, inoculated or not is (and it’s the same good news we’ve had all along):

1. Not everyone who is out and about is going to get infected. Far from it. Covid has only infected a minority of the population. Yes there are millions of symptom-free infected people who don’t know they are/were infected, but when you tally the total of known and statistical infections, the majority of the population has not been infected, even after a year.

2. IF you are unvaccinated and get infected, you have an 80% chance of having no symptoms or a mild case with no long term effects. Repeat - 80%. That percentage is the aggregate and accounts for all age groups with or without comorbidities. And it means that if you are quite elderly AND have a compromised immune system, you’ll probably STILL be okay. This fact is all over the internet from reputable sources, but the media doesn’t publicize it. It also means, however, that you have a 20% chance of having symptoms, perhaps severe symptoms.

That said, the vaccinated people are not 100% protected. They still have a 5% chance of having symptoms and I’m not sure they understand this. They do seem to understand, because Fauci said so, that they do still have a chance of being a carrier and passing it on to someone else if they get infected.

So I ask: Most of us were VERY concerned when we had a 20% chance. Some were petrified. Why aren’t we still wringing our hands and clutching our pearls with a 5% chance? Is it because the vaccine seems to be 100% effective against hospitalization and death?*

The only solution is people need to continue to stay home. No restaurants, no town squares, continue to have your goods delivered to your home. Keep them quarantined for a week and then sanitize them. Never touch your face with unwashed hands. No guests of any kind in your home.

And if you do need to go out, wear two masks, stay 6 feet apart. And don’t shake hands with anyone.

That’s how you stay safe.

Me, I have not left my home in a year, and I will stay home until Covid disappears whether I get vaccinated or not.

Don’t know about you but I take a 95% chance of winning lottery ticket and buy 1000 of them with only a 5% chance of losing! Can’t believe they shut this country down for political gain.

Cool. I have not stayed home during any of this and have no intention to do so. I wear a mask and use common sense.

You're joking right? I mean about staying home, wearing 2 masks, etc.? I'm vaccinated and am living my life as always. You must also consider mental health and it certainly is not healthy to isolate yourself from the world. Do what ever you want to do, but in my opinion, you shouldn't be encouraging others to be so negative and paranoid. Everyone must make their own decisions about how they handle this.

First off, "Are you kidding me?" I would be very interested in knowing how old you are, because, the flu, even with flu shots, hasn't gone away, and, people still go about their daily lives! This is just another , though stronger, form of the flu. So, with your line of thought, we should never leave our houses, for the rest of our lives! The best prevention is a strong immune system. And how do you get that? Get outside, in the sun and fresh air! Natural vitamin D, exercise, and, eat healthy.

dms4rn 03-21-2021 09:24 AM

You should stay home forever. The boogie man will have a different name as soon as the government finds they are losing control over the populist. It has been shown multiple times that the numbers were inflated, tests are faulty, masks do not protect against covid, the vaccine is a money maker for the elite who created this hysteria, you are being injected with unknown ingredients with unknown long term side effects for a disease you have to get a faulty test to find out if you even have. Yea the real world isn’t for the fearful. Stay home

If they had been tried with the variants, their efficacy rates would be considerably lower than that number.

All of the trials were 100% effective in preventing death. The vaccine’s promise is that it will prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death - not that it will prevent you from catching COVID. Aside from the variants not being included in the trials as mentioned above, no one has yet mentioned the most important factor you all appear to be ignorant of - the trials were done while MASKED AND SOCIALLY DISTANCED. The reason the vaccines have the high efficacy rates that they do is because THE TRIALS WERE DONE MASKED AND SOCIALLY DISTANCED. I’m fully vaccinated, I’m going to fly for the first time in over a year next week, I see friends in a small groups, I go out of my house, but I remain MASKED AND SOCIALLY DISTANCED because if you don’t the virus will just go and find a host and keep us all in this nightmare for even longer.

Vaccination status is not a pass to take off your mask and go and party in the square. Go to the squares if you so please, but know you are still at risk of catching COVID at the exact same rate that you have been for over a year. What you hopefully will not experience is serious illness, hospitalization or death. Oh, and when you go to the square WEAR A MASK AND REMAIN SOCIALLY DISTANCED because that is why the trial efficacy rate is as high as it is. Maybe y’all should actually read that paperwork you were handed when you received your vaccines because THE TRIALS WERE DONE ON INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE MASKED AND SOCIALLY DISTANCED. The vaccination status is only part of the story.

So if it doesn’t work at all, what are you out, it’s FREE. The president & V.P. got the shot. I’ve gotten both shots & I haven’t had any side effects from. The Covid shots aren’t mandatory, if you want it get it, if the # 1 & 2 people in the U.S. gets it, it must be safe. If only 5% isn’t completely safe that means 90% are. I would rather take a chance & be in the 90% category & not be 0% safe. Just my opinion, get it!

Living our lives

We have not stayed home for a year. We have flown all over the country. We eat out several times a week. We've gone on a few vacations. We wear masks only when requested, and never outside. Basically, We are living our lives and having a wonderful time! With the new 5% chance risk of infection - we will enjoy even more now!

DonnaNi4os 03-21-2021 09:36 AM

You are statistically correct. But continuing to stay isolated after vaccination doesn’t make sense for me. Perhaps it does for some and that is ok. We all need to stop being judge-mental but we need to be conscious of the risks to some of the population at highest risk. I continue to wear a mask in public, continue to wash my hands and use sanitizer. But I’m ready to get back to living, not ready to hang out in unmasked crowds that gather at the squares though. We must all do what is right for ourselves while keeping the welfare of our fellow man in mind because it’s the right thing to do. Stay safe everyone.

It's sad that you choose to live in fear and trust the data over this politicized event. Sure it's dangerous to a minority of the population; many things are.

The real heart of the matter is that we are responsible for defining what safe is for ourselves and weigh perceived and known risks.

I respect your decision to hide and cower until the trustworthy politicians tell you it's all clear. Please respect the decision of others to live, take risks and work to keep the country open so that you have something to come back to...if the politicians really want this to go away.

This is some harsh reality for all of you who are planning to stay indoors, wear masks, socially distance and avoid contract with other humans until this pandemic ends. We are battling a coronavirus. It was first discovered in animals in 1931 (90 years ago). The first confirmed coronavirus case with a human was reported in 1965 (56 years ago). It is only the covid-19 variant that was found in humans in 2019 and that has already mutated into different variants (which may or may not be treated with the current vaccines). If you are serious about staying the course until the coronavirus is eradicated, you aren't likely to ever resume any form of a "normal" life. As an additional piece of information, the coronavirus does not kill everyone who gets it. In the United States, 1.8% of those reported as having covid-19 die. Many of those have additional issues.
