That's not news. It's propaganda.

You are correct. Welcome to the MSM!

Very true the point of the statistic is that no matter what you do there is a chance of failure. Do you certainly remember the Russian nuclear plant and in the same year the Pennsylvania nuclear plant both imploding or exploding? And yet experts said it was one in a million chance. That's why we have statistics and yet statistics don't tell the whole story. I am fine at 5% because once most of us get the shots that's 5% because 5% of 5% of 5% of 5%, meaning that was in the next 6 to 12 months the rate of infections will go down to a very small percent of people of which I will probably not meet any that are truly sick or infected. You can stay in your house all you want but that's not living

Oneiric 03-21-2021 05:27 AM

LiverpoolWalrus- As many viruses mutate, new versions may appear on a regular basis. Therefore, will you stay in your house indefinitely?

Rosebud1949 03-21-2021 05:39 AM

This is too extreme

So even if we assume that everyone is vaccinated, 5 out of every 100 people are still going to be susceptible to Covid. The good news for everyone, inoculated or not is (and it’s the same good news we’ve had all along):

1. Not everyone who is out and about is going to get infected. Far from it. Covid has only infected a minority of the population. Yes there are millions of symptom-free infected people who don’t know they are/were infected, but when you tally the total of known and statistical infections, the majority of the population has not been infected, even after a year.

2. IF you are unvaccinated and get infected, you have an 80% chance of having no symptoms or a mild case with no long term effects. Repeat - 80%. That percentage is the aggregate and accounts for all age groups with or without comorbidities. And it means that if you are quite elderly AND have a compromised immune system, you’ll probably STILL be okay. This fact is all over the internet from reputable sources, but the media doesn’t publicize it. It also means, however, that you have a 20% chance of having symptoms, perhaps severe symptoms.

That said, the vaccinated people are not 100% protected. They still have a 5% chance of having symptoms and I’m not sure they understand this. They do seem to understand, because Fauci said so, that they do still have a chance of being a carrier and passing it on to someone else if they get infected.

So I ask: Most of us were VERY concerned when we had a 20% chance. Some were petrified. Why aren’t we still wringing our hands and clutching our pearls with a 5% chance? Is it because the vaccine seems to be 100% effective against hospitalization and death?*

The only solution is people need to continue to stay home. No restaurants, no town squares, continue to have your goods delivered to your home. Keep them quarantined for a week and then sanitize them. Never touch your face with unwashed hands. No guests of any kind in your home.

And if you do need to go out, wear two masks, stay 6 feet apart. And don’t shake hands with anyone.

That’s how you stay safe.

Me, I have not left my home in a year, and I will stay home until Covid disappears whether I get vaccinated or not.

I understand your concern but staying home all the time is too severe. Going out with caution gives some immunity itself. Until all are vaccinated we need to take mask protection in close quarters. Sadly those to mourn the previous administration will never care about anyone but themselves...so those who do care, should try and live as best they can. Dont lock yourself away.

Vaccination protects you.

Vaccination protects you from Covid serious illness including hospitalizations and death.

I'm not sure whether you are being facetious or not. However, if you are serious, may I opine that you are on sitting on the brink of insanity. Your brain is numb to the touch. You will likely be admitted to a nut house before you ever get the virus. Again, if you are serious, then continue to be afraid, be very afraid. Your First Amendment rights certainly allow you personal, chicken-little group-think and of an illogic mindset. Yes, I defend your right to be illogical and a group-thinker, but my First Amendment rights allow me to say you are half-crazy, in the least.

From what i read yesterday in the CDC site was that only J&J has shown 100% protection against death. The other vaccines are at 85 or 86%. Also, the first two vaccines have an efficacy rate of 95% but one needs to remember that those trials were conducted without the variants. If they had been tried with the variants, their efficacy rates would be considerably lower than that number.

Though I feel it should have been pointed out the efficacy rate for the first two vaccines are considerably lower if one considers the variants, I am very happy that you posted this. People are going around acting like they’re 100% protected, and they’re not.

I personally feel that a month after one has been fully vaccinated, one should be tested for the amount of antibodies one has. And it would be helpful if we were again tested every 3 or 6 months to verify immunity. Otherwise, how do we know if we are still being protected by the vaccine? Do we need to have another surge to realize the vaccine is no longer effective?

OP, if you have not left your home in a year, and will stay home until Covid disappears; then you are already dead, you just don’t know it!

When I first read the OP's comments in post #1, I didn't realize his words were "tongue in cheek". I realize after reading more postings of his in this thread that first post was not only tongue in cheek while making his point but hyperbole. I get it now.

If you haven't left home in a year then you're already dead. Your coffin is just a lot bigger than most.
