Pturner, did you read the "stop bird porn" story and watch the video?

I didn't read the story. The video plays when you open it and I listened. It sounded dumb. Did the story make sense?

bkcunningham1 03-11-2010 04:32 PM

It was just about this group that want's to ban bird watching because it disturbs mating in birds. Their logic though, is that there is an increase of senior citizens who bird watch because of the ease of the practice. The group said they have scientific proof that the mating habits of birds, ie display of plumes, dancing, strutting and so forth, turns the seniors on sexually. This group who has this website said this has caused a worldwide increase of naked birdwatching!!

Pturner 03-11-2010 04:35 PM

OMG, did you just see again. She got off the nest and again you could see the little chick. I guess it's still just the first one trying to get more out of the shell!

bkcunningham1 03-11-2010 04:37 PM

What a view now...talk about protective

Pturner 03-11-2010 04:42 PM

Since the Dad didn't bring back food, I wonder if he returned because this is a time of day for predators? According to earlier info on the side thread, it should be getting to be 1st feeding time soon.

bkcunningham1 03-11-2010 04:42 PM

I just saw a human in the background...did you see that. Someone walking in the woods behind the tree. Wonder if they have any idea what is going on right there where they are walking!!

Pturner 03-11-2010 04:45 PM

Didn't see the walker. Hope he doesn't disturb the eagles!

Pturner 03-11-2010 05:42 PM

A couple minutes ago, Mom got up and you could see the baby again. Dad flew back to nest. They were both there for a minute and then the Mom took off. Now the Dad is back on the nest.

bxmt54 03-11-2010 06:28 PM

Some of the info on the side bars says that the nest is the size of a queen bed and probably weighs about 800 lbs....can you imagine the size of that? It also said that it could be some time before the baby eats because it had eaten the yolk of the egg. When it's time the parents will gather food and break off little tiny pieces so it can eat. It says they eaglets are about 3 inches long and weigh 2.5 ounces when hatched. I am just totally amazed at this...

BF, I should have posted earlier, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for such a beautiful site. We all owe you.

I agree with Red..Such a beautiful sight to see...

bkcunningham1 03-11-2010 10:00 PM

How did you ever discover the site with the live cam? I just had to check on the nest one more time before bedtime. It's nearly 10 p.m. My husband and I sat and watched tonight for some time. Such a true joy to watch nature "up close" like this. I've emailed and called people to share the joy. Your drop of consideration really has rippled into a wave BF. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this link. B.K.

I did too Bare. Friends called and emailed back to say how excited they were to be watching. Think BK and I got a bit swept up in the moments, every time a little chick appeared, trading up to the minute accounts. It was just so breathtaking.

Thanks again! :clap2::clap2:

bkcunningham1 03-12-2010 08:14 AM

I hope other eagle cam watchers just saw the eaglet!! The eagle stood and appeared to be feeding the little one. Gently putting it's beak (or bill?) up to the eaglet's tiny beak. We watched something being brought into the nest last night by one parent. Not sure what it was. The eaglet has much more control of its head. this morning. Still wobbly but much more stable than the few glimpses I saw yesterday. Fascinating!!

starflyte1 03-12-2010 05:57 PM

Feeding!

Both Mom and Dad are in the nest and it is feeding time!

Pturner 03-12-2010 06:50 PM

See Mom Feeding Eaglet

Here is a still photo and a video of Mom feeding the first eaglet. You can also see that a second egg is starting to open.

You are welcome, Pturner! And thank you for letting me know the first egg had hatched. (I was in the laundry room with the dogs avoiding the tornado. I should have taken my laptop with me. Note to self: Stop listening to the weather radio!)

I am so glad you are all enjoying the Eagle Website. I must say that I find it very addictive. When the mom stands up and I see the fuzzy little head bobbing around, I feel rewarded for the time I spend.

The second and third eggs should be hatching any day now. The incubation period for eggs two and three is shorter than for the first egg.

Eagles mate for life. They are both acting like proud parents. Nature is so wonderful.

I think the babies are due to hatch around March 9.

I thought I'd post the link again. It really is magical.

jojo 03-13-2010 06:43 PM

I passed along the link to family etc but now (6:45 pm Sat.) it does not appear to be working. Is that the case or do I have a technical problem? I have been mesmerized by the family.

golfnut 03-13-2010 07:01 PM

Second chick hatched today and third has pipped, should be very interesting viewing over the next several months as we watch them grow...gn

bkcunningham1 03-13-2010 07:03 PM

web cam experiencing technical difficulties

Yes, they are having technical problems. If you notice to the right of the cam photo, there is an ongoing moderated discussion. That is how I discovered the cam was down. I've been watching regularly for a couple of days. Hypnotized really. The questions and answers are informative. You can scroll through the discussion and get lots of good info.

Pturner 03-13-2010 07:08 PM

It's still down. Watched Mom feeding one of the Eaglets earlier this afternoon. Hopefully, it will be back up and running tomorrow. Don't forget to spring forward.

bkcunningham1 03-13-2010 07:12 PM

Thank you

That is right. Thanks for the reminder Pturner!

The dad provided lunch today, looked like a huge fish?? It is strange to me that the babies' "undeveloped" digestive systems can process raw fish. I watched the mom feed the babies, so cute to see their little fuzzy heads bouncing around.

And the mom is so careful when she settles down to keep them warm.

starflyte1 03-15-2010 05:32 PM

All 3 have hatched. Feeding now.

The largest eaglet seems to push the other two babies out of the way to get more food. But the mother makes sure they all get fed.

Some facts I've learned from watching the website.

Apparently the nest is the size of a queen-size bed! Eagles mate for life. But in this case the mother eagle is around 12 and was previously mated to an eagle who was killed by an airplane. She has had several broods of eglets with her new mate. He seems to be doing a good job bringing her food and new straw for the nest ... I guess she'll keep him around.

Back to the website. So cute.

Pturner 03-15-2010 06:42 PM

My, the first eaglet has already grown, bless his (or her) sweet little heart! :0000000000luvmyhors

Thanks for the original posting. This is so cool and interesting. The Q&A have taught me alot within the last 4 days. I have passed this on to relatives with small kids....and lots of schools. What a great educational experience for kids and ADULTS. Thanks again for the post.

Pturner 03-16-2010 04:09 PM

She's feeding all three right now!

I know. I am watching too. I'm shocked how fast they are growing. They can hold their heads up so much better in such a short period of time.

Hey, waddup with the new pix? I like it!

You are so welcome for the original "heads up". The only thing that makes the Eagle Cam more enjoyable .. is sharing it with others. :coolsmiley:

Can someone check the sight for me and see if they are saying anything about something being wrong? Both of the eagles are sitting on the side of the nest and looking down into it and I can't see the eaglets. I'm concerned something has happened to one of them. I can't read the blog on the side while I am here at work to see what comments are being made. I'd appreciate it if someone could look and let me know....Thanks in advance!

bkcunningham1 03-18-2010 03:15 PM

They are being fed now at 4:14 p.m. All three are there!! Scanned the discussion. Nothing out of place.

bxmt54 03-18-2010 03:20 PM

So glad....I was worried!
