I am laughing at the note from bxmt54, who was worried about eaglets being missing. A couple of days ago I decided one eaglet was missing and that I should notify the Cam Admins. Hahaha. They assured me all three eglets were just fine. The worried comments on the Eagle Site must drive the Cam Admins crazy!

Barefoot - I've gotten very attached to them and will be really sad when they all fly away and leave the nest...:sigh: I leave the sight up all day when I'm home and just kind of check in on them as I'm passing by the computer. At work I sit at the computer for 8 hours so I have the site minimized for the most part but I pop the screen up every so often just for a quick look and show it to whoever is here in the office with me. Everyone has gotten such a kick out of it. Watching them is kind of habit forming!

Bare, I saw that question in the side posts. Didn't know it was yours! Too funny. Now Mom sits beside the nest and watches over. All three are visible in the nest. The oldest one looks like (s)he's already getting restless. Just saw Momma shake her head hard and appear to be speaking (cam has no sound). She musta been scolding them.
:cryin2: Oh well, they gotta learn.

A viewer asked the question this morning "Is there a cat in the nest"? Gotta love people's imaginations.

The moderators have to constantly reassure viewers that the eaglets are well and safe and haven't starved or fallen out of the nest. Apparently this mother eagle is well experienced and has already successfully raised 13 eaglets.

Thanks Barefoot!

I love this site.

lol, if a cat tried to get near that nest, it better hope it had some of it's nine lives left!

BritParrothead 03-23-2010 10:17 AM

This is a nice site! Looks a little breezy up there today!!
I can only see one baby, the others must be keeping warm under mum?

nONIE 03-23-2010 10:48 AM

Awwww! finally caught mama feeding the babies, who would think that such a vicious looking bird could be so sweet and gentle with her little ones. Thanks so much for the thrill of watching mother love in action Bare.

What a joy!

The mother eagle is very gentle with her babies. She bunches her talons up into balls when she walks around the nest so she won't injure the babies.

Nonie, I know you love birds so I thought you'd like this site.

bkcunningham1 03-23-2010 11:27 PM

Everyone I've shown the "Eagle Cam" to really enjoy watching. Oh, and one night I thought I saw the shape of a cat behind the nest. It's a tree limb with knots. When the light is just right and the eagle isn't in the way, and a few toddie...well, I know Pturner. My husband laughed too.

Barefoot 03-25-2010 06:46 AM

7:30 AM on Thursday. Both mom and dad eagles are on the nest at the same time feeding the babies. Usually they take turns. Amazing to watch!

I was watching and one would pass food to the other and then onto the chicks. Likeyou say amazing to watch.

ssmith 03-25-2010 08:53 AM

Oh no...

I could be wrong but it looks like only 2 babies are eating...did we lose the 3rd one?

redwitch 03-25-2010 11:14 AM

All three are thriving. The youngest just looks like it's getting less food but that's because it is younger. They are so cute to watch, especially when they wobble to the edge of the nest to relieve themselves. I am so impressed with the parents and how caring both are. We should all take lessons from eagles.

Barefoot 03-25-2010 03:22 PM

I agree that it is hard to watch the third little eglet get "ignored". But that is just our perception. Every day someone expresses a concern to the moderators that the third baby is starving or dead. And the moderators assure us that all babies are well fed and cared for. Apparently this mom has already mothered 13 eaglets successfully and she knows what she is doing.

And Redwitch is right, we should all take lessons from the eagles. Both parents are very devoted, and all eaglets are doing fine.

I think this site is the BEST! I can't start my day without checking on the eagles. :mornincoffee:

All three look quite healthy. It's fun to watch them develop. Their claw feet are getting definition, as are their beaks. Their dark feathers are coming in. I love to peek in every day and see their progress.

This morning I caught one of the eaglets giving big yawn, right into the camera. It opened it's mouth so wide you could practically see it's tonsils. (Do eagles have tonsils?)

I love the site. I'm in awe. Thanks again, Bare, for this treasure.

Eaglet Banding Alert

The three eaglets are being banded at 9 AM on Wednesday, March 3l. They remove the eaglets from the nest to band them and then return them. Since the eagle nest is located 40 feet high, this should be interesting.

Apparently the parents fly overhead during the banding process, but are not aggressive. And the parents readily accept the eaglets back in the nest.

Thanks Bare, I'll watch for it.

Hawkwind 03-28-2010 10:04 AM

Here is a link to the 2007 banding. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3Z8POeO0Hg[/ame]

KathieI 03-30-2010 12:20 PM

The cam's been down for 2 days. Hopefully they'll have it working by tomorrow at 9am so we can see the banding.

Don't know about you, but since the cam went down, I've gotten more housework done, LOL!! :Screen_of_Death:

bkcunningham1 03-30-2010 01:33 PM

KathieI, I've been watching the cam off-and-on all day. I read that they are having intermittent problems with the video stream and are working to get it corrected. I'm watching now as a matter of fact!! The eaglets have gotten so big...

Pturner 03-30-2010 02:08 PM

Kathie, I'm able to see the video this afternoon. If you haven't already, try going to your view menu and hitting refresh (or the equiv. if you're not using IE). Sometimes that brings back the video if it's gone black.

Cuz, they are growing, aren't they!

Hawkwind, thanks for the video of the '07 banding. I have a tee time Wednesday morning and will miss the banding.

bkcunningham1 03-30-2010 02:14 PM

I'm shocked how quickly they've grown. I'm also impressed with the parents. The eaglets are too big to "brood" (be brooded?) but the parents take turns sitting on the side of the nest and guarding those toddlers. I haven't witnessed a poo over the side of the nest by the eaglets yet though!!

Pturner 03-30-2010 02:19 PM

Wow, the eaglets banded in '07 were much older/ bigger than these!

Barefoot 03-31-2010 04:36 AM

Reminder

Reminder ...

The eaglets are being banded on Wednesday, March 31, at 9 AM. The process takes about an hour.

bkcunningham1 03-31-2010 07:44 AM

8:43 am

For anyone interested, the crews are getting into place to begin banding the eaglets!!

bkcunningham1 03-31-2010 08:49 AM

The eaglets weight 1.75 lbs., 2 lbs. and 2.5 lbs.

Barefoot 04-10-2010 05:23 PM

The eaglets are getting huge. It is fun to watch them grow. They are no longer cute little white fuzzy babies.

Oh, I looked for that information and didn't see it. Thanks. I still check the site at daily. It is facinating! I wonder if they are scared before they take their first flight. I bet it's exciting to them when they get up the courage and actually fly from the nest for the first time. Maybe they don't remember it later though, much like we don't remember our first steps.

Barefoot 04-16-2010 09:58 AM

I've been watching the eagle cam for two months. Today I discovered something I should have known all along. Duh.

If you right click on the picture, and hit "zoom", you can look at the eagle cam full screen. Neato!

Bare, that's so funny. I found though that the full screen version doesn't have the same clarity as the small screen. I wish there was some inbetween version, as I'd like to see the image clearer but larger.

What a fabulous site and aren't they growing by leaps and bounds???

Pturner 04-23-2010 05:11 PM

Wow, I guess we can't even call them eaglets anymore. They're getting so big. The biggest one especially keeps flapping and flapping. I guess they'll be taking flight in a couple of weeks or less. They are still so fascinating to watch.

Jerseyboy2 04-23-2010 07:06 PM

enlarging your screen

KathieI - I have enlarged the image in IE by pressing the "Ctrl" key and then the "+" key. This will enlarge your screen by 10% each time. You can reduce it by pressing the "-" key after the "ctrl" key. I found that the image is clearer than using the full screen key. Try it, I hope it helps.

I just spent three days without a computer, driving from The Bubble to Canada. When I arrived and logged on to the Eagle Cam, I swear the eaglets had doubled in size! I actually thought the large one was the mother eagle for a minute because it was flapping it's wings.

Apparently the eaglets will practice flying in the nest, and will actually be flying by the end of May. However they continue to return to the nest for food. It should be fun to watch as they start their first expeditions.

I thought the same thing when I opened it the other day just as the larger one had it's wings fully spread.

Has anyone seen if they have posted the gender of the eaglets? I scrolled throught the info on the side and didn't spot it. As one is noticably larger, I am wondering if that one is male and the other two female.

I think the eaglets were too young to determine gender when they were banded.

Adult male eagles are smaller than females. I was thinking the puny one is a male, but perhaps it was just the last one to be hatched so it may be a bit behind in growth.

Following is a great suggestion from Jerseyboy2. Probably everyone else in the world except me already knows this ... but I had no idea you could enlarge stuff this way! Very helpful.

Last year the oldest eaglet branched at 67 days. (Branching is when the eaglets try their wings and land on a branch beside the nest)

Camellia, this year's oldest eaglet, is now 60 days old. She is spending a lot of time sitting on the side of the nest and looking over. I think she'll start branching sometime soon.
