What I now drive. Ctsv coupe. Corvette supercharged ZR 1 engine 560 hp. 190 mph top end. Please don't anybody jump in and ask why someone needs that much HP. Everyone to their own.

My 1968 Yenko Camaro. That car paid for quite a bit of my college costs. Most guys in California had never heard of Don Yenko, so had no clue what was under the hood of my baby (427 Vette engine; modified rear end and suspension; fiberglass hood). Add to the fact that girls couldn't drive and I was in drag race heaven -- loved racing in the Valley (San Fernando) for pinks and cash. And it got a whopping 4 miles per gallon with my lead foot. I still miss her.

It had the rare 375 HP 396 L78 rat motor, four bolt mains, solid lifters, a huge double pumper three barrel Holley, 4 speed Hurst shifter and a 4:10 rear end, all factory equipment. It only got six mpg around the DC area and I had to use Hess 100+ octane gas because it had a 11:1 compression ratio. It had no A/C or power steering. It was made to go. That same model (not my own car) was chosen as the pace car in the Indianapolis 500 that year. Wish I had kept it.... I miss driving it to this day.

The car of which I have the fondest memories - my second car, a 1966 Olds 442. Bucket seats, console, 4 speed - white, black vinyl top, red interior.....an unusual color combination for that type of car. Only had it for about a year and a half but have always missed it since then.

Promised my dad that I'd behave when I got it.......and ended up getting ticketed for drag racing. Tough to face him with that when I came home afterwards! Sold the car about 6 months later to pay for my next year of college.

Bought another one in the late '80s that Sandy and I kept for quite a few years. It was an identical car except for the colors. But it just never was the same as that first one.

Bill :)

It doesn't matter what car it was, it was my first car. Could have been a VW bug, or a Mustang or an Impala. It was 1968, and I was a Sophomore in High School. My best friend's parents bought him a 1964 Impala SS...I wanted a Mustang...What I got was a 13 year old Chevy. It was a 1955 Chevy 210. 2 door, 265 CID V8, "3 on the tree". No radio. The car had been the family car for all 13 years, Dad having bought it new in 1955 for $2000. I was sick of it, but it was now mine, and provided me some level of independence. Dad told me I had to pay him $200 for it and pay for my own insurance, and gas. I added a junk yard (AM) radio, and listened to Wolfman Jack out of Tijuana, Mexico (actually might have been Rosarito Beach). Wasn't long before I had earned enough $ being a busboy to be able to put "chrome reverse" wheels on it, and "wide oval" tires, to make it mine, vs my parents. Drove it for two years, then went to college, at which time I got $500 for it when I traded it in a piece of c***. I wish I had the '55 Chevy today!

My very first car was a 1960 Triumph Herald, when I was in high school. Drove that through college. My brother was given a Morris Minor, which had the little levers that flipped out when you turned the blinkers on. (My father loved to buy used cars and fix them up.) We also briefly had a German car the name of which escapes me, but everything was in German, and instead of D for Drive it said Fahrt ("ride" in German). Of course being teenagers, this totally cracked my brother and I up, and all our friends.

My first car was a 1949 Plymouth Deluxe named "The Hindenberg" because she was the highest car in the parking lot and the easiest to find. Had the car throughout college and loved it. Would love to find one and restore it.:BigApplause:

Fumar - Long time no see, good to see you posting again.

I had a '59 Plymouth Convertible (maybe a Savoy?). Had about 5 $200 cars at any one time in the early 60's (still have 5 cars - hard habit to break. Just gave my daughter a beautiful '94 Cad Z rated Seville STS with only 40K miles on it).

I had a Red '62 (non-bugeyed) Sprite in '63/64. Bought it used for $1500. Hard to drive on the Chicago Dan Ryan cause it was so small the trucks couldn't see you and would change lanes over the top of you.
