My first car - '56 Ford

My first car, at age 18, was a 1956 Ford. Dark green, 6 cylinder, stick shift, roll-up windows, no power steering, no power brakes. Paid $150 for it. Drove it for 15 months and then (even after wrecking it once) sold it for $125 (right before joining the US Air Force).

$25 depreciation for 15 months of driving. Not bad. Try and match that today <g>.

Gene

ps: I was proud of my car, because I paid for it. Growing up on a small farm and getting only a $4 week allowance (farm work and all), it wasn't easy to save any money (dating on $4 a week?!). Ahhh-my '56 Ford!

1949 Pontiac convertible, skirts, Olds Starfire spinners, lowering blocks and a gorgeous $29.95 Earl Shieb turquoise paint job. Wish I still had it.

A 1966 VW Bug. I got it in 1969 when all my friends were in muscle cars. My girlfriend was not a fan of the car, and a little embarrassed to ride in it. I didn't have it long as I was drafted that same year, so I gave it to my brother who turned it into a dune buggy while I was in Viet Nam. It's was a pretty cool conversion.

A 1949 Plymouth Deluxe (in 1964!). Loved that car. Never had a problem finding it in a parking lot. It was the highest car there.:crap2:

Absolutely! My first car was a '53 Dodge Coronet with Fluid Drive. Bought it from our neighbor for $50. Got plowed into the first day I had it. Nice. Dad "fixed" the banged up right side - then painted the whole car with a brush! Bodywork made the side of the car look like a waffle. Always glad he had a different day job.......

Fluid Drive - pretty weird set up. But it's how I learned to drive a stick! You couldn't stall the thing!

1966 Karmen Ghia. I could wind 1st gear all the way to 7mph!! Top speed of 84 mph. In the winter when you put the heat on, your right leg would be burning hot and your left leg freezing cold! The cramped quarters made olympic gymnasts out of girlfriend and me.
