Everybody has a work-life and family or health story prior to finding this place to finish the last 30 yards of life into the End Zone. Some lived Charmed Lives Some did not.
That being said lets turn the situation around. Virus hits, 2 Trillion Dollar Stimulation Package released and no money Zero, Zippety Do Da to Senior Citizens and Disabled People. You wouldn't be able to go to Publix without an Umbrella because of the Tears that would be a flowing! There is no way that anybody can win no matter what they do nowadays. So if you don't want the check burn it. If you don't like that cash it and spread it around. If you need it use it. It's coming sooner or later. If it doesn't make your day they have it make someone else's day. Stay healthy till this thing passes (Listen To Those Who Know) or it will be us that passes. I have a plan for our gigantic Atlantic City Windfall. It's private cause those that profess they will spread it around are full of bull! The world can't even handle this without controversy! I wonder how many Little White Crosses you can buy with 12 Benjamin's? :1rotfl: |
Everyone's getting a check working or not working retired or disabled as long as your income is under $75,000 a year
|
More than likely, you had to file a w-2 form to show income, or loss of income. We need a better explanation on how this is going to work!
|
It’s a stimulus check to stimulate the economy. Spend it at our local businesses or donate it to a local charity.
|
I plan to find local folks and donate it
|
Both White House and Congress hope that you all will spend a few trillion dollars to get the economy from being crashed!

BTW, the recovery will be longer than most are estimating so you are fooling yourself if you think that those that have lost their jobs will be remotely made whole by the extended unemployment funds. The majority of us Villagers should count our blessings. |

I don't "need" it either, but I can imagine the firestorm that would result if the leadership of this country said, "No checks to senior citizens as they don't need them". It's a ridiculous premise that older Americans shouldn't be part of this financial stimulus package. I plan to send the money to my kids and suggest anyone who feels they don't need the money to the same or donate it to some worthy cause.
|
Oh don’t be stupid! There are strict restrictions on those checks! Full Retirees will never get them! Only working people who lost jobs! The details of this will be out soon! Nobody retired is expecting this money! 🤦*♀️

This has nothing to do with whether or not you're working or retired. It has to do with your actual INCOME. If your retirement income is low, then you will receive the check. There are people who live on pensions, who are not working because they're retired, but their pensions aren't high enough to hit that cap of $99,999 per person. And so, they will receive a stimulus check. There are people who are retired, live on pensions, and don't collect social security yet (you have to be 62 or older to collect, many people retire before they reach that age even if they're not wealthy). There are people who collect social security but no pension, and their social security checks are modest and under that threshhold. There are people who are not working, and not retired yet. They'll be getting a check too. This isn't money people are getting because they've "earned" it. It is money people are getting so the citizens can boost the local economy and prevent more stores from closing, and prevent more people in the unemployment lines. |
Hope that was sarcasm!

What You Need to Know About Your Upcoming Stimulus Check - Clark Howard |
What a lovely bunch of comments! We have:
virtue signalers telling us they will hand out benjamins at Publix cranky old men demanding proof that virus must have affected you financially to get check people who say they don't need it, will donate people who say they need it, will spend it If you followed this legislation closely, you would know a few facts Original bill drafted by republicans in senate had means testing at the top and the bottom, no check if you made over 100k, smaller check ($600) if you collected SS but did not have at least $2500 in additional earnings. After negotiations with Schumer and Pelosi, who screamed unfair to include the bottom means testing and wanted a whole truckload of other crap added to the bill. In the end they compromised and we have the bill as signed into law. Spend it, donate it however you want. Hopefully it helps revive the economy. |
What I am seeing here from many is the usual knee-jerk reaction. No matter what, some are not going to be happy with what our government does or doesn't do. Maybe many here don't "need" the money. Fine. But can you imagine how long it would take for anyone who desperately needs it to get it if there had to be additional screening first? Some people here may have children that have been put out of work and need it. Send it to them. Buy food and supplies specifically to donate to food banks, etc. Pay someone's hospital bill whose insurance doesn't stretch that far. There are so many ways to put this money to use.
How about putting the money to good use, instead of complaining about it? It's a done deal, so now go from there. Complaining accomplishes nothing good. |
Because we pay taxes to. They want us to spend it to help the economy

The best way to get this money into the hands of those who need it is to spend it wisely...when it is safe to do so. Buy from a produce stand. Order food from a Mom and Pop operation. Tip when appropriate. Have your home power washed. Surely there are local businesses whose service/product you can use.

Double the good you can do
When the check arrives go to local businesses and buy gift cards.
Donate the cards to a food bank or charity. You have stimulated the economy and supported your fellow man. |

You get a jar of spaghetti sauce on sale, a BOGO of spaghetti (at $1.49 total for 2 pounds), half a pound of ground chuck, and salad greens - assuming the household has oil and vinegar in the pantry... That's dinner for 4, for 2 nights. There's likely to be enough left over from that $10 for 4 bananas - fry those up with some brown sugar and butter, and call it dessert. |

I don't need it either but our kids that are out of work and we have to help out do!

It's hard for even the Federal Government to spend $2 trillion without wasting some of it. Here is some interesting math: $2 trillion ÷ 320 million people. That is $6,250 for every man, woman, and child in the country.

Because retirees are people too, and many desperately need the money. Many retirees live on a fixed income that goes up by X every year, while their expenses go up by X squared. Those retirees that are fortunate enough to not need the money are free to donate it as they wish.
|
I am glad we US retirees are receiving checks.

Hate to break some peoples bubble but there are many people in TV that work to supplement their pensions or social security checks because they need to make ends meet. Yea the younger people lost their jobs but so did a lot of older people living here that needed to work. Not only the Bars & Restaurants are closed but many of the stores are also closing now. Remember that when we go back out to play again. Remember that when you ask why are retirees getting these checks? We're not all rich and well off,we don't all have a stock portfolio or huge amounts of money stashed away. There are those that are or were living day to day. If you were successful in the workforce good for you. Not everyone was which is why some people left where they were and moved here. The Villages is at least half of what I was paying up North and I couldn't stay there so we moved. I know I'm not alone so remember that!

The latest info is that the stimulus is based on 2018 filing. If you’ve already filed 2019, they will use those those more current figures.
Ours is a situation that I’ve not seen discussed so far: We sold our longtime northern home in 2019 and downsized to a small condo. We made a profit which artificially inflated our 2019 income and resulted in a huge tax amount due. We already filed and paid, so we will not qualify. $2400 isn’t going to make or break us, but it would’ve been nice to have, because we certainly don’t make what our 2019 return shows. At this point, we’re thankful for our health and praying for the whole world. |

When I learned they would base the stimulus check on the last income tax return you filed, I emailed him. He was set to push the button to send his tax return in but will now wait until the July deadline in hopes that he might receive a stimulus check. He is hardworking and frugal, never bought a new car in his life, makes ends meet on his normal income, put his windfall in savings. If he doesn't get a check and I do, he will get mine. We don't need the money, and he could use it. We already give a generous portion of our earnings to charity and spend a boatload of our income locally. I am so tired of the last two "tax reforms" benefiting the wealthy and taking it out on the middle class. |
