That money should be going to people that have been put out of work and are in need!

I'm like you, I really don't need it but I'm sure there's some people that live just on S.S. Maybe not in TV but I do know some people that live on just S.S. & when they get their checks they're gone in about a week from paying bills & groceries. Regor, we're the fortunate ones that live OK. But I worry a little about what I have in my savings in the bank. I know some people say it won't get so bad that the govt. will start using the banks for extra cash. I always felt if the Federal Govt. has their fingers into the banks which they do they can take what they want whether you want them to or not. Personally I don't think it'll get that bad, but you never know! I agree with your comment, thanks for your opinion.

It’s a stimulus package... to jump start the economy. Or it could be a bribe for your vote.

You are misinformed about this. If you make between $0 and $75000, you get the $1200 check. After the income of $75000, you get less. Most of us on SS will be getting a check.

Why is Boeing getting 17 billion dollars
I’ll take my $1,200

As previously mentioned, there are seniors, many of whom are living on 1200. per month, especially those who are single. I'm happy for you that you don't need it. Great opportunity for you to do something good for others! Contribute to Corona research, the project to feed the less fortunate school children who depend on the generosity of people who make sure they get the food they need, so they can learn. There are a million options. Please do us all a favor and let us know what you end up doing with your excess $1200.

Exactly. It's to spend on products and services that you might not otherwise purchase. That will boost business and keep people working.

stimulas checks

i am hoping we get our checks. we don't get enough i S.S. to even file income tax . this would help pay for some of our medical bills. My hat gets tipped to the people who don't need the money.

BTW, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, a common misconception about the U.S. economy is that is dominated by huge corporations. Small business makes up roughly 99 percent of all independent enterprises in the country. Small business are defined as those that employ fewer than 500 people. This means small businesses technically dominate the markets in the United States, accounting for 52 percent of all workers.

Find ways to help the true backbone of this country.

I’m not keeping it. I’m putting it back into the companies that provide most of what we use. My ROI is minuscule but that’s not the point anyway.

Small business is great but they don’t provide all that much employment. The deli can maybe hire 2 workers at minimum wage where larger establishments hire many more at better wages.

Do small businesses provide you with your light bulbs, your car, your medications or even the cereal you had for breakfast? Of course not. And that’s why we need to bolster all phases of the economy including farmers.

Do you or anyone else you know ever planning to fly somewhere again? That’s why Boeing and Delta and American are getting money.

If you didn't file a tax return for 2019, you won't get a check.

I didn't know that there is a minimum income level to file. I thought all income is supposed to be reported. In fact, if your income is that low, you;'re probably eligible for earn income credits in which the government would send you money.

2019 returns aren't due until July 15, so do you mean filed 2018?

skip0358 03-28-2020 11:42 AM

True some people are going to need it to help pay for all the stuff they’ve been hoarding from the Supermarket. Repair job needed. it will be spent and then some!

cemlopez 03-28-2020 11:42 AM

Have you check the value of any of your investments lately?, also I know that there are quite a few retires which live in a very tie budget, also that money will be feed right back into circulation via expenditures.

retiredguy123 03-28-2020 11:45 AM

The income eligibilty to get a check is based on your 2018 tax return. But, I think if you are on social security, you will get a check even if you didn't need to file a 2018 return. Also, the earned income credit only applies when you have earned income.

I'm sorry that your finances are marginal, that must really suck. But they were marginal before we ever heard of COVID-19. So unless you had a job to supplement your income that you lost BECAUSE of the epidemic, your situation is unchanged. Therefore, why should you get any check? There are millions of workers supporting their families who suffered a major loss of income, that where the funds should be directed. This is not a Christmas gift, and should not go to anyone whose financial situation did not change. It should not go to non-US citizens or those on public assistance either, unless we want to subsidize the cigarette/beer/lottery ticket industries.

Gee that's funny, whenever I go to my local gas/convenience store I am always waiting in line behind fat white villagers buying 12 packs, 50 lotto games and a pack of camels who then jump into their $12k golf carts.

Steven carrier 03-28-2020 12:09 PM

Its amazing to me that so many do not understand the reasoning behind the shecks that we will be receiving. These are not meant for helping those affected by the virus (ie,those that have been laid off). The checks are for SPENDING by everyone with the purpose of stimulating the economy. Hence the name - Stimulus Checks. Those who have lost jobs are being helped by the longer Unemployment Compensation times and upgraded minimum $ amounts.

Yes, but they're buying it with their own money, not the taxpayer's

That's true IN THEORY, but when they give checks to people who don't need he money, it just ends up in their portfolio. I will be spending the same amount of money whether I get a check or not, so I plan on giving it to people WHO NEED IT---they're the ones that will spend it. In that scenario, it's OK to give it to people who are marginal on their SS alone, since they will spend it as well.

mooned 03-28-2020 12:39 PM

supplement income checks.

That money should be going to people that have been put out of work and are in need!

I may mistaken but have seen this on several web sites.

The $1200 checks will be payed back in the 2020 tax year as a deduction on our refunds or a increase in our tax debt. I read this to mean that if I was going to receive a $2,000 tax return next year I would first be debited the $1,200, and only receive $500 for my 2020 tax return. Not sure how they plan to handle the people who actually own taxes or do not receive a refund greater than the $1,200 but I for one plan on banking my $1,200 until I know for sure I won't be charged for it next year. Experience has shown that there is seldom a free lunch.

According to Clark Howard, who has read the entire bill, the checks will not be used to offset any current year or back taxes owed.

ccgrier 03-28-2020 01:13 PM

If you don't need it don't cash the check if it come's by mail or help someone in need.

amlvarni 03-28-2020 01:36 PM

Because we are able to retire and be financially secure, we then can do things like donate any "extra" money to, say ... local medical facilities to purchase need supplies or any NGO that helps those in need. I think this always applies, especially today: “‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’”. Enjoy sharing your wealth!

If you don’t need it, may I suggest you use it to support local businesses and to feed those in your area who are hungry.

Exactly................spend it, donate it into the economy.

NavyVet 03-28-2020 01:52 PM

I'm sure hairdressers/dog groomers/housekeepers have lost clients or are not working at all due to closures. I'm also going to order takeout and give big tips to all the servers at our favorite restaurants. Then whatever is left I will send to local animal shelters and rescues.
Another idea to give to the needy: Wildwood school district is always hurting for school supplies, etc. A lot of the kids are at or near poverty levels. Just a thought.

jryley2@yahoo.com 03-28-2020 01:55 PM

Donate it

You should be more worryed about how many millons of this stimulus tax payers money will be stolen then to point your finger at those that collect SS and put them into shame!

It's called a stimulus check. The idea is that it not only helps those that need the extra help, but also stimulates the economy in being spent, whether by you or someone who can use the help.

skip0358 03-28-2020 04:23 PM

All those posting on here how we & they don't need it and it should go to this one or that one. Remember that when you go out to eat, have a few cocktails, get your hair or nails done, they're the ones who've been out of work or at least some of them and will need the money!

Nick B 03-28-2020 04:36 PM

Yes

Snoopy 03-28-2020 05:03 PM

I DEFINIETLY NEED IT! I'm truly glad you don't need it. My SS check isn't enough, so I've been using retirement. Now I hate to take it out since I've lost so much. Donate if you can. Stay safe.

DARFAP 03-28-2020 05:12 PM

Well then, donate it.

Well, I’m not going to give my savings away I worked for for 48 years. I might need it.
