our ss is so low we don't even file a return. our medical bills are so that we could use this money to pay some of them.

Sending good wishes your way, that your situation will change for the better...very soon.

Good luck.

Agree not everyone here retired with large pensions and or SSI checks, some have also lost their spouses and their incomes so they could certainly use the check when it comes. It's based on your filing income whether or not you get one and how much it will be period .

The point is that this virus has not changed your financial situation. The relief was supposed to assist those whose monthly incomes have been affected...

I love the idea of people who are getting checks that are doing fine without it, donate to a needy cause. Excellent idea

I believe those that are affected will also receive the $1,200 check, PLUS 100% pay they were making at their job from the unemployment office every week...

Then maybe you should just accept it and give it to someone that needs it. Or maybe give it to your favorite politician so they can add it to their stimulus package raise.

I would suggest that you donate your check to someone who is laid off since you don’t seem to understand why the checks are being issued.

I am not 100% sure which side of the fence you are coming down on. It appears you are suggesting people receiving SSI do not need the check because their income situation has not changed. This concept could be expanded further. There are millions of folks that have not lost their jobs and they will be getting the checks as well. Because they have not lost their jobs should they be denied the payment as well?

Yes. This is supposed to be a covid crisis assistance bill. Any money's having nothing to do with the effects of the virus across the spectrum should not have been included, i.e. libraries, planned parenthood, PBS radio, etc. $2 trillion? This money is corrupted and is definitely not "free". It is wasteful and in some cases fraudulent spending by those we elected to be trusted stewards of our hard earned dollars

Pommom91 03-28-2020 09:24 AM

You will only get a check if you make under $75,000 a year. It’s my understanding that this will be based on the 2018 return unless you have already filed the 2019.

Ritabob 03-28-2020 09:25 AM

The checks are being issued to everyone so when we are over this crisis, you go out and spend them to stimulate the economy. That’s why people who are earning up to $75000 per year are getting checks for the full amount.

Trust it will go to a good cause at least in our house!

MANY Retired people in The Villages are still working part-time for financial reasons but currently furloughed, and MANY Retired people outside of our paradise barely survive on their SS. People in either situation will appreciate the reprieve of additional funds. And the money will be spent ... further stimulating the economy to rebound. If you receive the funds and don't need them, then feel blessed and donate them....PLENTY of options for that! Honestly not a dumb plan. (But I do agree......$ to the Kennedy Center .... dumb plan!)

stan the man 03-28-2020 09:32 AM

I will send my check back right after big business sends theirs back

Rosebud1949 03-28-2020 09:34 AM

For those on a low income SS, it will be helpful to many to pay the Villages the CDD fee FOR NON USE OF THE SPORTS FACILITIES they are still going to charge us for...... they could use this time to get the REPAIRS done to ALL these facilities. Some of the complexes at Softball, the stands, toilets, and the courts at Pickleball are filthy and disgusting. Trolleys that had water dispensers were shameful, and needed disinfecting before, more so now, not cleaned for months. No wonder we have a virus. the further down the Villages, builds in Sumter, the more the older places get forgotten with maintenance.............. Been here 12.5 years.. trust me....

Retires getting checks

Many retirees have a hard time living with their SS checks and can use the money. If you don't need it then donate it to someone who does. Like the local restaurant workers or soap kitchens.

That money should be going to people that have been put out of work and are in need!

You can 1) return it to the government, 2) give it to a charity, 3) give it to someone you know who needs it, 4) go to go fund me.com and send it to someone whose cause you support, 5) order take-out and delivery and each time give the worker a very good tip.

No one said you have to keep it if you don’t need it. You decide how you can help your community with it. The retirees who can sure use it, are very grateful for it.
