[QUOTE=BobKat1;230460]There are talk radio stations everywhere up and down the dial, which appeal to all political and social leanings. They're easy to find, but IMO only, not too unique.
QUOTE] Hi Bobkat, Early in this thread the discussion was about the inability to pull in stations other than WVLG, especially at night. Unfortunately there are not "talk radio stations everywhere up and down the dial" in TV. I like the programming of WVLG during the day but not 24 x 7; I need some variety! I especially like their long playlist, it's not same 30 songs over and over. Always guarenteed to hear a blast from the past I haven't heard for a long time. That said I also like sports talk which I could not pull in at all in TV. My XM radio should fix that problem, then the Villages will be PERFECT !!! |

Bravo on discretion with your talk show hosts. I like the non political Coast to Coast AM, though it comes on late in the East. but our station in DC plays the previous day's show earlier, just after prime time. While most Villagers would love it, some of the occasional paranormal topicalities might not fly. I'm going to miss Pacifica when we full time, but at least they are on line. Then again, many Coast to coast host stations stream as well. Larry |
Thanks for that link, WALT, even better than Pandora.
We appreciate real radio and don't know how they can afford to stay on (not too many ads, and they have to subscribe to their news feed (but ugh, poor choice!) but at least they are not part of a pre-programmed conglomerate! Larry |
I have a background in radio and the last station I was at in New Zealand featured online streaming and two separate advertisers sponsored the service for us, one a restaurant and the other a hardware store. Whenever we mentioned the online website where you could tune in, we also mentioned the sponsors. We also had spots dedicated to the sponsors. I took requests from New Zealand, England, Australia, the Philippines, and the U.S. The station engineer told me that the cost for online streaming was roughly $100 per month.

I you want to listen to the radio on your computer or smart phone you can go to www.iheartradio.com. Clear Channel radio broadcasts most, if not all of their radio stations, on the internet. There are some very good talk stations as well as sports stations available. You can also download an app for your smartphone.

We would like to hear more southern rock played on WVLG. They seem to play mostly bubble gum music. And why not play more doowop? Different types of music at different times of the day perhaps. Some jazz thrown in for coolness, lol! JMHO

FM in The Villages
I am working on putting a not for profit low power FM station up to serve the Villages.
TWO questions 1- Would anyone like to help? 2- How do you feel about another station? Comments please... Thanks, Alan |

What music format would you envision for TV? |

If you don't want to use a docking/charging station, you can simply purchase an audio cable and connect your smartphone (or iPad) to your stereo system, including most newer car stereo's. Very simply to do and sounds great. With this app, I am canceling XM in my car... |
How does that work when you receive a call while listening to radio?

I use the phone to connect to the car stereo. I have the iPad connected to the home stereo. |
If you had your phone connected via bluetooth in the car, you might not have to disconnect. I'm not a big fan of the bluetooth connection in cars though. Our previous cars seemed to have a delay and it was kinda like talking with walkie talkies instead of a phone. I have the cables to connect the phone to the car and I think I might try that today.
