We were told that anything negative is kept out of the Villages newspaper no matter what it pertains to. Could it be that they are just trying to keep it a "happy" place and some are making it sound like it is because of TV's owner's political leaning? Now I know that because it is oshunluva asking this that most folks are going to answer this just the way I think they will but that's ok.

And, what, pray tell, is negative about Caroline Kennedy coming to TV? The fact that is a speech for Obama? That's ridiculous.

Keeping this a secret is just wrong on so many levels. Censorship, people's right to know and make a free choice, etc.

Something tells me Ms. Kennedy would be a bigger draw than Gov. Palin. Too many of us remember the little girl who played under her daddy's desk in the White House and would love the opportunity to see her in person regardless of the political persuasion. Who knows? If it was advertised, they might have to use LSL and there might truly be 60,000 people there rather a large group counted several times to equal 60K.

AMEN...if anyone does not like the political ilk of the developer or his choice of news stories, CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION or ACCEPT THE PAPER FOR WHAT IT IS .....but stop the preaching !!!!

Where in the world did you get my opinion about how the liberal media, especially the NY Times, has manipulated the election. I totally agree. I mistakengly thought the Daily Sun reported on events happening in The Villages. Consider this... let's say I was such political activist that I would want to excercise my constitutional right to demonstrate support or the GOP if/when speakers for the other party came here. I'd be in the dark if not for this forum. In fact, if I wasn't working I WOULD show up with my McCain/ Palin banners waving... Living here is a learning experience. Now I've learned. Like you say , "take the Daily Sun for what it is"....

My guess is that there will be a story in the Tuesday morning edition.

Right on Talk Host... there's the story... Front Page Local section of the Sun. I got my shorts all in a bundle for nothing. I prefer a cold Yuengling and some salt and pepper with my crow. And Bucco, rest assured I'm in the conservative camp... guess I'm just a "Maverick"...

Guest 10-28-2008 06:25 AM

Shorts in a bundle, all right...

This is exactly the problem, the hysteria about censorship and the controlling developer created by Cassie's premature post was really something to watch from a distant eye. I remember not that long ago when it was proclaimed that the developer would NEVER allow a political candidate or supporter to use any of the Village facilities for a political rally. That was the first thing that came to mind when the piling on began on Mr. Morse's back, but then it has never taken much for people to hate this "evil" man and the beautiful oasis of living he has created. :faint:

I can't figure why my husband and I enjoy TV so much.....

Guest 10-28-2008 06:28 AM

I feel the job of a (good) newspaper is to report local events. As someone said, political leanings one way or another would be displayed in the editorial columns. What was annoying to many, was the fact that the Palin event was highly advertised and reported in a manner akin to "the coming of Christ", while Biden and Kennedy are little blurbs at best. To take the "love it or leave it" stance is in no way helpful. I hope that in the future, if we voice our concerns to "the management", we will eventually get some changes that will make The Villages a better place to live. If they hear it from enough people, they will get the message. If we go along like sheep, nothing will happen.

Guest 10-28-2008 06:33 AM

And now it's the way it is reported that is the problem. Geezzzzz.

Rekop, would you do me a favor and do more investigation with the USA distributrion center and find out why they have been banned from TVs? Do they want to hang a mail box, do they want to mail the issues, exactly what is the issue? I saw other people receiving more than one paper and I'm trying to discover the problem with the USA delivery and whether it is truly, "banned in Boston".

Guest 10-28-2008 07:13 AM

You don't seem to like my post about the poor level of reporting certain events, but you want me to do research for you? Its pretty easy to make a quick phone call.....

Guest 10-28-2008 07:17 AM

I'll do that, rekop. I'd rather do the "reporting" than the gossiping.

Guest 10-28-2008 07:24 AM

USA Today

Rekop, per a conversation today with the USA Today distribution department, paper can be delivered or mailed to your home there, some areas of TV do not have carriers available. Those are the facts.

MANY people in The Villages get the USA Today and/or the Orlando Sentinel delivered to their homes each and every morning. Everything that happens in your life that you dont like is NOT the fault of the developer !!!!

Guest 10-28-2008 07:39 AM

The Villages Daily Sun has a cover story in the Local section today about this.

Here is The Villlages Daily Sun website link for this story about Caroline Kennedy's October 29, 2008 visit to TV. http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/a...villages01.txt

Guest 10-28-2008 08:01 AM

Yesterday I sent an email to The Daily Sun and Orlando Sentinel suggesting they advertise this event , I wonder how many others did the same and if that was the reason why it was finally in the paper????

This reminds me of another blog....the POA web site is where the developer really gets blamed for everything!

Perhaps they received an official press release from the Democrats stating the event would take place. Doesn't the Press normally confirm facts and not take information off forums as gospel? (Thank heavens!)

It is not the job of newspapers, radio or television to "advertise" any political event. Their job to report news as they have it. That reporting is governed by their editorial policy. It varies from paper to paper.

After reading the posts on this thread, I would guess that some might say, "hey....they didn't cover my sewing circle meeting.......why are they censoring the news."

What is news to one person, is not necessarily news to another. By whose standards do we abide?

Guest 10-28-2008 08:52 AM

They are quite limited in the number of people who can go to this event though.

I doubt if there is any way you are going to get 60,000 people in at the Savannah Center. I would guess they would be lucky to get more than 1000 people at that facility??

Guest 10-28-2008 09:25 AM

WOW!!!.......I'm amazed at the over reaction and shoot from the hip posts regarding Caroline Kennedy's visit. Relax, go to the Savannah Center if that is your choice and enjoy the day.

For god's sake LIGHTEN UP................

Per Peachie -"proclaimed that the developer would NEVER allow a political candidate or supporter to use any of the Village facilities for a political rally. That was the first thing that came to mind when the piling on began on Mr. Morse's back, but then it has never taken much for people to hate this "evil" man and the beautiful oasis of living he has created. "

Let's don't forget he made a pretty penny off the development - he did not develop the "oasis" out of the goodness of his heart. The posters seem to be asking for fair and balanced news reporting rather than the "Fox" edition.

SO what ? At least as of today, we are still a free enterprise system !

I realize that is it trying to be taken away from us but as of today, that is how it works !

Guest 10-29-2008 11:16 AM

It's good to see the Daily Sun coverage of the Joe Biden unannounced visit today. Perhaps the paranoia regarding the developer will be a little less intense for a bit even though he didn't develop the beautiful oasis of TV for free as some people obviously think he should have done. :coolsmiley:

Getting Ready...

So I am about to get ready to go listen to what Caroline has to say....and I have the most important question about the whole event!

What should I wear! :faint:

Just kidding...just thought I should add a little humor to this thread....didn't mean to start a controversy about the developers and the paper.....do you think I can wear white??

:sigh: I am just kdding again..... Go ahead :throwtomatoes:....I know I am a PITA!!!

Hope to see you there!!!

I'm up here in NY for now but read the post about no publicity for Caroline Kennedy at Savannah this afternoon.. I think thats terrible but typical of a Republican Regime...
Please....did anyone go to the event..How was it and did many people show up due to the lack of publicity???
I was in TV a few weeks ago at LSL market night; there was an Obama table set up with buttons and bumper stickers. I asked the girl when is he coming to speak in TV and she said "are you kidding..do you really think Mr Morse would allow him to speak here?" Guess not....
Vote Obama...

PLEASE EXPLAIN IN DETAIL....

What do you think is "terrible but typical of a Republican Regime..." ?

Also in detail please...what has the developer done to stop any Democratic candidate from appearing in The Villages ???

Thank you

Guest 10-29-2008 07:23 PM

I did not go to the Savannah Center to see Caroline...but I did drive by on my way home from errands in Spanish Springs at about 4:15. I believe she was scheduled to speak at 5 p.m. Both entrances were blocked by sheriff's cars and the parking lots were full. They were directing cars to park on the grass beyond Savannah Center on El Camino Dr. I slowed down and there was a very long line from the side door of the center ,winding around through the parking lot. Looks like even with out any advertising word spread fast in TV . I would bet they turned some folks away.

Guest 10-29-2008 07:57 PM

I will start a new thread....I am guessing there were a few TOTVer's there....well I was...and think I recognized a few others....but I will let all post there own experiences....and opinions....

If someone doesn't beat me to it....will start a new thread in a bit.....

Bucco,,I am only quoting """" """" the reply given when I asked when is Obama coming to TV...As for the Republican Regime...I never met so many staunch Republicans like I have down in Florida..as far as I can see it is total Bush territory! Regime? Well there was the grandfather, the father and the son...Sure grandpop never made it to president, but very political nevertheless..

You are condemning people based on a LOT OF ASSUMPTIONS, and not facts and I dont think that is right to do.

As far as being mostly Replublican, your immature cracks at the folks who developed The Villages aside....so what ? I lived in a staunch Democratic area....there are both throughout the country.....so what ? If you find the political climate so distasteful and contrary why live here among us bad folks ?

Guest 10-30-2008 06:47 AM

Bethpage, I'm glad you're living down here. And actually, in The Villages, there are many more Democrats and Independants than one would realize. I forget the exact numbers, but I think of registered voters, it was somethiing like 60% Repubs and 40% Dems and Indies.

Bucco....not that it's any of my business, but, from your statement above this implies that you are not in The Villages? I guess I had assumed that you were here. Not that it matters....just curious.

Pardon the interruption and let the debate continue....

Guest 10-30-2008 09:11 AM

07....it looks like Bucco may have at one point lived in a different community....but I think he is here now....just how I read it...

As for the the split...here is another article that gives some percentages of Republicans/Dems/Independants etc....not sure if it is acurate but this paper seems to be pretty unbiased.

http://www.dailycommercial.com/localnews/1030kennedy

Some of the comments I heard last night from the Democrats were "it is nice to be heard...it is nice to see others...it is nice to be out of the political closet". Several people I talked to were long time residents of TV's. They stated that they typically just keep their political views to themselves...but that this election was important enough (in their opinion) to stand up for what they believe.

There were a few people there ofcourse that wanted to see Caroline....just because of who she is...famous people of any kind are exciting.

I also met several republicans there...who are voting for Obama. It was great to meet so many wonderful people....all out for one reason...to help change the country!! No matter who wins....the country has to change! It is exciting!

Did anyone watch Obama's "commercial" last night?

I thought it was GREAT!!!! Whoever is working for his PR campaign are very smart....this is so different from the name calling commercials!!

AND....did you see how many people were in Florida last night to see him speak? WOW!!!

Let me explain my problem with this thread....

First the condemnation of the developer is patently unfair. He is a Republican, contributes much to the party and that is his right. He has never hid that fact and he has NEVER STOPPED ANYONE ELSE from campaigning here despite all the best attempts to say that. It is wrong to make those kind of statements.

Then we get a post referring to this as a "republican regime"....come on...so there are more Republicans here..so what !

By the way, I either read this (certainly not on here) or heard it today that The Villages offered Caroline Kennedy a larger area for the rally and was turned down.

PLEASE stop with the conspiracy theories.....many, maybe most, of my friends are Democrats I THINK...never asked...to me it doesnt make any difference and if that is important to anyone...the "regime"..then try to find a place that has a "regime" that you like !

Guest 10-30-2008 06:53 PM

You are RIGHT! If Mr. Morse is a republican that is his right...and he can give all the money in the world to the party...

I do think that IF...and I mean IF....the democrat party was offered a larger arena for the event...they probably should have taken it...however...they probably did not know how MANY people would have shown up....they probably felt safe with 200-300..instead of over 1000!!!

They were just as surprised as everyone else!!!

Now they know....now they know all the closeted Democrats are coming out...are voting....are interested and want TV's to be somewhere the major nominees can visit! Whatever race they are!

SO..this is a changing year...this a changing community....whether there are more democrats then ever before...or they just feel "safe" enough to show their affiliation!

Either way you look at it....the world, the country, the state and TV's are changing.....my opinion is that is for the good! The good of all!

Guest 11-01-2008 07:04 PM

Bucco...I am not condeming anyone by saying they are staunch republicans..tehn can be if they want..As for Mr Morse..I think the man is brilliant to acomplish what he has in his lifetime...And if he chooses to endorse the Republican Party..that is his right.... I simply state that the Democratic Party did not get the same publicity as the Republicans when a visiting celebrity came to TV..namely Caroline Kennedy...Yes this is also his right..I dont have to like it...SO do you think I should move because of this??? Sorry neighbor....Dont think so...

Guest 11-01-2008 07:14 PM

REKOP...Thanks for your kind words...and glad to hear there are more Dems in TV than I thought....But just to let you know, I plan on remaining in TV even when there are more Republicans than I...I think I have that right..Dont you...???

Well I know that many of my FRIENDS on TOTV have said...just ignore these postings....but I have to say that on this one....it WAS NOT UNINFORMED!!! It was clearly stated on the Obama web site that Caroline was coming....I just said it was my opinion...that The Daily Sun should have at the very least printed this....it was nothing about censorship....nothing about the "controlling" developer....it was just a piece of news that should have been in the paper....

I don't care if one is a Dem or a Repub.....just that it (IMO) should have been printed in the paper....

Caroline Kennedy in TV's in big news!!! This was not uninformed....this was not political...and I believe I stated that....it was just my opinion (and apparently some other's opinions (including your friends)) that it should have been printed.....I did not EVER state who's fault it was....the democrats, The Sun or the developer.....

Do not state that I was uninformed or pre-mature...two days prior to an event is not pre-mature.....:faint:

Talk about sighing:sigh:

:ohdear:...let it go...move on...there are SO many other fish to TRY to fry..

I have EVERY right to state my opinion as you.....

Don't you think you should be bringing up more important things...then what CASSIE has to say.....:1rotfl:

I do believe that some of your "friends" agreed that this type of news should have been printed.....LET IT GO.....agree, disagree....does it really matter....she was here....she had a great show....the Sun wrote it with their Republican slant....oh well....it's over!! Time for you to be over it too!
