AND the point is no one is to blame except the shooter.. period. BUT I am offering a constructive way to try to prevent this type of crime in the future. Just like in suspected child abuse cases, we should require trained people such as medical, military, and educators to report to the sheriff anyone in need of mental health evaluation so they can be evaluated and treated. Blaming sarah palin or the tea party or right rhetoric will never solve the problem, and the left is just using this as a shameful reason to try to gain some political advantage. Shame on them. |

All of this shouting about Palin, Beck, and Fox news.....hmmmmm
"this morning on “Good Morning America,” ABC’s Ashleigh Banfield sat down with Zach Osler, a high school friend of Jared Loughner, the suspect in the Tucson massacre. Osler says his friend wasn’t shooting at people, “he was shooting at the world.” Regarding the high-pitched talk radio and cable news political rhetoric, Osler says his friend didn’t even watch the news. He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn’t listen to political radio. He didn’t take sides. He wasn’t on the left. He wasn’t on the right." http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/...he-news_b48040 These media folks and many politicians prove every single day that they have no clue what is going on !! They will use things like this to make political points and never discuss what matters and what should be discussed. As many on here said...this was the work of a disturbed person..NOT a political statement, so all that Chris Mathews, Oberman hot air was wasted....right ? And the ARIZONA paper was right about the sheriff who played politics before all the victims were id'd !! |

But if the media just focused on this nut-job as the perpetrator and hadn't instead targeted their political enemies none of this would have happened. Conservatives were targeted and then their response to this uncalled for attack is then also criticized by this same media. So we agree, the shooter is responsible. Assigning or fantasizing about the impetus of his actions is unknowable, at this time, and immaterial. I hope i've got this correct. |

That being said, I believe there is a need for all of us to look at the things we say, both here in this forum and in the larger world. Most of us, left and right, can agree at some point. Some media outlet were discussing the tone without actually pointing fingers, others not so much. So in the spirit of all of this I intend to change my picture to one that more reflects my personality. Now all I have to do in figure out how to do that. |

JimJoe...I think I was pretty clear about wanting to stay out of the blame game....people on both sides were pointing fingers very early on. I wanted to wait until we all had more information. Now we can all see this guy was just off. That being said the discussion regarding the tone, on both sides, needs to change. All you have to do is look thought theses threads and how the political forum had to be restricted mainly do to tone. |

I chose my own photo with my cat Rusty, who I love. He always seems to know when I need a little cheering up and could use some company. Unlike a dog, it's his choice always. I am always grateful to have earned his affection. That's my story. I hope you can share yours. You're a good person Cologal. I know we often disagree about political outlooks, but we agree when it really counts, I think. When it's about humanity. Nothing in this world, especially our tomorrows, is guaranteed. Carpe Diem. |

I find myself annoyed sometimes with the people I agree with on this forum because of their tone. |

I hope I am not one who annoys you, but will admit that the last election sort of stiffened me up a bit and made me very very callous about it all. The personal and nasty talk on Palin and Bush and the actual WARNINGS issued about talking about Obama or Pelosi has admittely steeled me to any of this and I know I react that way, although I posted here TWICE that it had nothing to do with politics despite TBUGS instance that it was related. If I did annoy, I am sorry |

Still going on??
Bucco-
I have been away from The Villages on a little vacation for 9 days and this thread is still going on? Amazing to say the least. Did I ever say that politics was responsible for Congresswoman Gifford's being shot? No. I stated what Palin said - and about 85% of the public believe the same as what I stated. I thought it was terrible that Kelley had fundraisers of shooting M-16's - and we are not sure of what the targets were. I stated it was terrible that high capacity magazines are legal. If you would like to meet and talk about this, just let me know. I am back from my vacation. |

Then you neglected to add the MAJORITY of your post... "Sarah Palin's website had actually put a picture of Gifford's district on it with crosshairs drawn in as a target for their Republican challenge to her. Gifford's Republican challenger, Jesse Kelly, had fundraisers of shooting an M-16 rifle. His website had him dressed in combat gear with an M-16. Palin has expressed her condolences. Yeah, who believes that? Kelly's spokesman says he sees no connection between the shooting of the Congresswoman and the militant fundraising. Yeah, who believes that?" As always loaded with your personal remarks and sarcasm/elitism ! And most folks answered your politically motivated question by blaming the sick man who did it ! WHO was the question you asked, and then added the Republicans you obviously felt has some responsibility. The conversation is over !!!! |
